The lasso lets Diana see souls.
Diana apparently has no problem "killing" robots.
Therefore robots (including the Metal Men and Red Tornado) don't have souls?

What say you?

Silly, Peter Svenson, ROBOTS DON'T HAVE SOULS.

As I understand it, Red Tornado is an elemental and the robot body is merely a shell that contains him and gives him form.

That's basically the same idea as the Judeo-Christian concept of the soul, an essence that exists separately from the body, which is a shell that contains and gives it a form that permits interaction with the world.

So I'd say yes, Tornado has a soul.

Diana has no problem killing anything that needs killing. The fact that the only ones the JLA doesn't give her grief about are demons and robots says more about them than it does about her. She doesn't care if it has a soul when she puts it down, she cares if it's harming innocents and won't be stopped any other way.

Well, I think the issue is that she's more willing to go Killy Killy on something that has no soul, since it's not murder but just destruction of property. But if the robot is alive, and is more than just programming, then she'd talk to it first.

Diana doesn't kill unless she has to. If the robot has a soul, if it's alive, then she'll try other options first. If it's just a machine, then she'll rip it to pieces and make decorative jewelry from the remains.

yes, it was addressed in some of the JLA books that came out a year or so ago.

Nobody in the League has a problem killing robots (will Reddy might but he's not had the opportunity). Superman will kill 20 before breakfast.

Rover might though. Juries still out on that one.

Well, the Robot from LOST IN SPACE had soul, but that's not quite what you mean, I suspect...

Diana should put on her big-girl spangled panties and admit that humans, robots, monsters, etc... If they they are self-aware, they deserve to live unless they're too evil and unstoppable otherwise, in which it's her job to dispatch them humanely.

The Metal Men have "responsometers" which serve a similar purpose to Reddy's whole elemental shtick in making them "special" and justifying them being Real Boys despite their robotic nature.

Matt Tyler (the robotic Hourman), L-Ron, and Tomorrow Woman would be better choices for comparison. But regardless, I would tend to agree with the general trend of this thread that there's no difference, and particularly with Seth that Diana in particular doesn't make that distinction, and never has. I found her recent What Measure Is a Non-Human nonsense in terms of the android gladiator OOC and distasteful. I expect that from the rest of the League. Diana should and usually does know better.
