I forget how soon we start talking about it, but are we doing it this year?
I'm on board if we are.

I sent petriacce a PM about it, suggesting I could host it if he wasn't interested this year (I've got the time and the web space to do it).
It's getting late for everybody to get involved and get their pieces done though. I'd like to hear others' thoughts on this point. It has worked well in past years to have a deadline to sign up, another to have your piece done/ scanned/ jpeg sent to the host, and a final deadline to get your piece in the mail to the recipient.
In order to work, people would have to be quick about getting some art done. I'd hate to see this holiday tradition fade away, so I'm willing to get busy and get some art done personally!

Hellboy Forum Holiday Art Exchange 2009
Hello everyone! I am excited that there is so much interest in the art exchange this year. A lot of you are familiar with the exchange but the list of hellboarders has grown quite a bit and some of you may have not participated and may have a few questions. Please read on.
Blog: http://hellboyartexchange.blogspot.com/
I need to get the art for the other years up on the blog!
So what exactly is the exchange?
The exchange is an opportunity for forum members to give and/or receive original Hellboy fan art. That's right, original Hellboy fan art. Each person creates a piece of Hellboy-themed art and will send it to a randomly chosen person who is participating in the exchange. This is an opportunity to be super creative. Please Note: if you are creating your art via electronic means please be prepared to print off a nice original for the person to whom you are sending your art.
But I'm no artist, right?
If you are suddenly sad because you swear up and down that you just cannot possibly create anything you would want to send to someone or you are just not physically able, that is where the awesomeness of this little community really shines. Several people may create a couple pieces of art to send to those individuals who aren't able to send pieces of their own but would still like to participate in the exchange by receiving a piece of fan art. So don't hesitate to participate. 'Tis a time of giving and friendship - even though our community pretty much is like this all year long.
It is important to remember that you will be sending your art directly to the randomly selected individual whose name you receive. This will require you to pay the postage. Remember that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and therefore may require you to send a package to another country.
Who is eligible to participate?
Registered members of Comic Book Resources Forums prior to November 2009 and participants in the Hellboy Forum.
What are the guidelines and how do I sign up?
Each person wanting to participate in the exchange will FIRST need to create a Hellboy/Mignola related piece of art (unless you are not creating a piece of art and wanting to receive only). After your art piece is finished (no "in progress" pieces please), please e-mail the following information to me at "hbartexchange [at] gmail [dot] com":
a scan/picture of your art piece (please keep it to a width of 450 pixels or less and around 300 to 500 KB.) if you are creating multiple pieces to send to those who are only receiving, please send me a scan/picture for each piece.
your real first and last names / forum name
whether you are giving a piece/pieces of art or want to receive only
e-mail address
mailing address (please include any special mailing instructions if you were to receive a package from outside of your country (i.e. mark as gift, special address format, etc.))
I will send you an e-mail response acknowledging the receipt of your information and I will add your name to the participant list below.
What is the timeline?
11 Nov 2009 - Start working on your piece(s) of art now.
06 Dec 2009 - Final date for submitting a scan/picture of artwork (Midnight PT).
13 Dec 2009 - Final date for me sending you the name and mailing information of the person(s) to whom you are sending your art.
20 Dec 2009 - Final date for mailing your art piece(s) to its intended recipient(s).
20 Dec 2009 - From this date forward please post on this Art Exchange Thread when you receive your art.
The personal information you supply will not be posted on the forum or shared with anyone other than myself and the person who is randomly selected to send you art. If you are under 18 years of age, please ask your parents if it is okay to participate before signing up. Please don't ask me for other participant's personal information even if your intentions are good. Thanks.
Please note that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and some of you will be sending your art packages to another country. Please take that into consideration when estimating the financial impact of participating in the exchange.
Please post any questions you may have on this thread. Note that I will probably have to make changes to the information in this post as we go along for clarification reasons. The bottom of the post will indicate the date of the latest edit. Please review the post occasionally to be aware of any changes.

After participating in every exchange, it looks like my streak will end this year.
My family has been hit with some bad news about the health of my mom, and I just don't think I'll have the time.
I will look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with though.

I could if I hadn't punctured the paper when I was franticly wiping the hot chocolate off. :frown: 'Tis okay though. I had a digital photo copy, and I made myself feel better by tracing, then coloring it in. Which I am quite proud of anyways.

Well, yesterday my home computer died on me (makin' it somewhat of a no!-er-day) but this may actually help me focus on finishing my entry properly.
Although the stakes are high and pressure booming:
it has to be worthy, it has to display hellboy, aptly 'though with being original, resulting in something I'd like to be receiving myself...
But it's getting there... sort of .

I was wondering: december 6th 12 o' clock midnight Pacific Time, is that tonight or tomorrow night?
I'm almost done with my entry, almost .
EDIT: Well I'm gonna be bold and wager the day to not start with 'midnight' or every day would have to be yesterday...
So with those coupla hours to spare, I'm off to throw a frisbee - woohoo! - although it's raining, cold and midnight, past it.
See you tomorrow!

I assumed midnight tonight would be the last time for an entry.. correct? If not mines a day late?? But then again I also couldn't get online correctly for the past two-ish days, does that count as a legit reason for this 230am entry, minus my insomnia?? Either way, someone is getting my hellboy art no matter what!!!

So, yesterday, a.k.a. the day before Christmas, I was invited to visit the post-office to be collecting a parcel, from Canada, sent to me by the illustrious Gary Bolt - wellknown amiably as he'll be by us all. Which had made my day already.
Not only was the parcel huge, it also contained a cool Hellboy doodle, which had the customers and postal people alike staring bemusedlike from ear to ear, if that's saying it right. Leaving the building I felt like they'll have had it difficult to not be following me home and witness the contents of such a grand parcel I had been bestowed with.
I rushed home albeit responsibly, on my bike, the majestic yet not fully unveiled treasure tucked under one arm.
Within the privacy and stylistic excellence of my domicile a familiar calmth came over me and with steady hands I went about unpacking. Perhaps through fault or ignorance of my own had I not already familiarized myself with Gary's entry here, but this only added to my anticipation and wonderment at what I had brought into my home. The unpacking went smoothly and somehow the insides of the parcel smelled like what I can only describe as "lovely". Perhaps some of the packing material had been near laundry-deturgent or some other favourably scented material. Or perhaps this will just be what Canada smells like.
Finally I assured myself to pick the contents out from its packaging:
A quality, well measured passe-partout sporting a delicate yet striking piece of art, in B&W inks, showing (as I see it) Hellboy on a rooftop with his sword, ridding the chimney from big mean ghastly Lovecraftian tentacles, so that Father Christmas might be coming to do his work through this chimney, unhindered and joyously like he should. Hellboy saving Christmas. Like Gary Bolt making mine. Like this Art Exchange made all ours hopefully.
So thanks a million Gary Bolt and Petriacce and all you's!
Gary I like your stuff!
Damn how I like this board, even when I might occasionally *feel like the mother of the world*:cool:. I just have that.
As soon as I have a computer with scanner and PShop online again, I can add pictures. For the meantime, enjoy the holiday .

Fitzroy, I am in the same dilemma! I've been trying to get online (as similar before with getting my art in within the deadline) to let everyone know I've had some mailing issues. Hooray crappy internet connection! I've been working doubles, giving me no time before xmas to escape to the postal office.
But due to exhausted and a lack there of, of doing anything for personal gain, I will me taking off work tomorrow and mailing out the art works via rush delivery along with the many other things I've neglected since before xmas.

Okay, this big box was waiting for me yesterday, and imagine my surprise when I opened it. It was JT's art exchange piece, and I am sure it was Serendipity; John got mine and I got his. This is the second time that happened with the gift exchange. The first time was with CrossStreetArtist. When I saw the image that was posted on the gift exchange link I thought it was a sculpture of some sorts at a scaled down size. But what I saw inside of that box was a full blown, life-sized, Hellboy RHoD!!!, made of foam (?) Awesome!! Even though I can't match Kees_L enthusiasm in words I assure you that my excitement level hit the all time high. 11 perhaps?
To show my appreciation to John I am including a picture that I know I will regret one day. Here is to you, John Thompson, Cheers! You are the Man!

Gene, I'm so glad you like the gift and I know you will give it a good home. Thank you for attaching the picture too, it is fun to wear, isn't it? I had always meant to airbrush a darker color into the cracks to make them appear deeper and bring out the details-- feel free to add some if you like!
I am in the process of packing my stuff for a move to New Jersey, so the art exchange was a good opportunity to say goodbye to the Hand of Doom. I hope you enjoy it for a long time!

Gene, I'm so glad you like the gift and I know you will give it a good home. Thank you for attaching the picture too, it is fun to wear, isn't it? I had always meant to airbrush a darker color into the cracks to make them appear deeper and bring out the details-- feel free to add some if you like!

RHoD will get a good home for sure but finding a place worthy of it is going to be a challenge. I will have to build a nice little perch for it on the wall. I am not making any additions to it. I am keeping it as is.
Good luck with the move. Thanks again JT.

Got mine in the mail today:smile: from Kelly Tindall.
The mail bent the edges a smidge but I bent those suckers right back, so no harm done.
Nice piece! glad to add it to my collection.

Got my painting from black eyeliner (http://hellboyartexchange.blogspot.com/2009/12/participant-submission-black-eyeliner.html) last night. Looks really sharp, and she put it in a nice little frame for canvases.
Thanks, eyeliner! I will hang it in my kitchen.

I got home from an extended Christmas/New Years vacation last night and found a notice in my mail box that a parcel was waiting for me at the post office. I went and picked it up today and grew very excited to see that the parcel was sent by Grim Tim. The RHOD is every bit as awesome as it looks in the photo o the the Art Exchange site.
Thank you very much, Tim! I have already mounted it next to where I sit at my computer.
one of the coolest pieces from the exchange couldn't have gone to a more deserving guy .
great job, Tim...Congrats ,Gary!!!

Shucks, Gary. The piece is wonderful. I could tell from looking at images on the exchange sight that it is well crafted, but Tim's attention to detail is a wonderful thing to behold close up. I really love it.

interestingly we also have another of Tim's originals in our collection. The beautiful cast pewter sun medallion that many of us got resin cast versions of that year (why, I fail to remember)
so thanks from me as well Tim you're a stellar craftsperson and artist. love it!

You're quite welcome, Gary - I'm pleased that you're happy with it
I was delighted to receive your name, having gotten Morna's name a few years back (thanks Morna - and you're welcome too!)
I think you'd probably agree that the piece is seen best in person - the subtleties of the paint just don't seem to photograph well at all (IMO).
Anyway, I'm happy that it has a good home. Cheers!

Wow Gary Bolt and Grim Tim, that piece will be glorious! Really really great.
As do look the other 3D object entries. Heck, the 2D ones as well.
Still, I can't help but feel I won this time. Sorry .
And my favorite piece which I didn't even make or receive myself, will be Gene Poonyo's "Mignola wannabe" - sheer talent, with a graphical ease or eloquence of say... an Alex Ninő.
The willingness toward - and the plethora of cool stuff - in the '09 exchange (being my first to participate in) has made the whole thing a fun and prestigeous experience. I am already anticipating the next one and wanna thank Petriacce one more time:cool:.

Ace picture.
As it seems to adequately prove how Ming's bust holds up with ease among even the top of the top. Ming's own pic showed how rich the piece is in apparent texture and detail. So yeah. Some pal you have there, hellboyone .

What are Jolly Ranchers? Interesting name, as a concept. It will have to involve large concentrations of alcohol I imagine. Like whiskey-sweets or tequila-gums maybe?

Sorry to say, no. To the left of the cabinet, you'll see some candies. The pink ones are Jelly Beans. The ones underneath are Jolly Ranchers, fruit-flavored hard candy. They rule.

It arrived today! Absolutely outstanding pieces Fitzroy, thank you! The ink will definately go into a frame as soon as possible. The extra digital piece is really brutal too, really cool. Tell me, do you produce artwork for a living? The quality of these two are really, really high in my humble opinion.
I belive this concludes the Holiday Exchange 2009 so I will take this oportunity to say thank you to everyone that got involved and naturally Petriacce for organizing the whole thing. Thank you!

Sorry Roblin, didn't mean to get the last word here. I finally set up a place for the RHoD from JT. Had to rearrange the prints to get this setup. I think they compliment each other just fine, don't you all think? I like this very much if I do say so myself. Some of you might even recognize the pendent that was given to us so generously by Grim Tim several years back. Sorry about the flash.

Heh, that's when the Comic Book Artist #23 becomes invaluable. The Dark Horse litho is 22" x 30", limited to 250. The Wildstorm Iris print is 16" x 22" and limited to 300. I read on this forum that there is a smaller version of the Iris print. Hope this helps.
