Hi, Jeremy here! I have Watched the1980 episode of the VH1 program "I Love The 80s Strikes Back"; where comedian/ "Queer As Folk" star HAL SPARKS commented on the "Plastic Man" cartoon; calling Plastic Man's costume "THE WORST SUPER-HERO OUTFIT EVER!" I am starting this thread to ask you Oddballs a question: What would YOU think are the worst costumes ever?

There are too many to mention, but I'll start with the Falcon's first outfit.
Doesn't the look on Cap's face sum it up completely? http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=fullsize&issue=14462577792%20117
Vartox guest-starred often in the 70s and 80s Superman books. This outfit is horrible.www.comics.org/graphics/covers/116/400/116_4_281.jpg (http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/116/400/116_4_281.jpg)

Who was that Marvel super-zero launched back in the early 1970s to much noise but no effect? Jack of Hearts? Jack of Ass?
Switching Black Window from a sensible Modesty Blaise outfit to a fishnet body stocking was stupid.
'Curse, I had The Streak, arguably the least attractive looking costume of all.

Batman's costume is ridiculous. People are used to it, but it's still ridiculous.

DC's long-running team The Legion of Super-Heroes has seen a lot of really questionable outfits over the years.
But I'll nominate Timber Wolf's Silver Age look:
Let's see...first take a nice, masculine lavender wolf's head symbol. It'll look really good on the orange background. Then, just to complete the look...zebra-striped epaulets.
Because nothing says "wolf" like...um...*...

Most of the superhero costumes that Robby came up with in each issue of Dial H for Hero were pretty lame.

The look of the character was clearly a rip-off of Sean Connery in Zardoz (http://marmellatina0.tripod.com/zardoz.htm).
Yes, I think it was obvious that Vartox was based on Zardoz (they even mention that on the Encyclopedia of Superheroes). Note also an interesting fact: Vartox was the ONLY character that Superman NEVER could beat in a fight (as far as I know, of course). All their fights (which were all misunderstandings of one sort or another) ended on draws at best, or even with Supes getting his ass kicked! And this is pre-crisis Supes we're talking about!!

I remember one time, the villains assumed that, since he was "just a guy in a field jacket", that Wonder Man must not have super powers.
On the other hand, Peter David, in the Hulk's Pantheon arc, had one member say that the reason superheroes travel in groups is so when everybody is laughing at their ridiculous costumes, they could each pretend that it was the others that people were laughing at....

The Hulk, Ragman, and Tatterdemillion all dress in rags!
Captain America's outfit looks incredibly cool in a comic HOWEVER would look absurd in real life. So would the original yellow costume of Wolverine. Solid one piece body stockings don't look too good except in Spider-Man's case. That's probably the reason they modified the Daredevil and Punisher costumes for the flicks.
The Silver Surfer, Cloud, Gorilla Grodd, and Nova (the herald) all go about nekkid!
Robin's outfit looks sincerely goofy. Red, yellow, green and a domino mask.
The original Green Lantern was a wack collection of colors and design styles made to appear frightening. Ahhhhh, it wasn't!

Any of the Green Lantern costumes worn by Kyle Rayner over the past ten years. Why mess with a classic? The Kane-designed, hourglass version was sublime in its simplicity. Hopefully, when Hal Jordan returns from his bout with death, DC will put him back in his original duds and resist the urge to update them.
The outfit that Chuck was forced to wear as The Listener during the mid-60’s superhero phase of Blackhawk. It doesn’t get much odder than a blue jumpsuit covered with dozens of small, pink ears.
The superhero-ish uniform (complete with an ‘O’ on the chest) that Orion wore in DC’s late-70’s New Gods revival.
Any version of Black Canary’s costume without the fishnets.
Speaking of costumes, I'd like to take a moment to talk about a character who has gone thru several costume changes in her career: Zatanna!
Her first costume was just a female version of her father's, who was a stage magician. She lost the cloak and added fishnet stockings. Very sexy, and seems to be most people's favorite. Too bad she kept the top hat, thought, which looks plain silly.
Her second costume (which she received not long after joining the JL) was more typically superheroish: skintight, with a cloak. Lost the hat, but lost the fishnets, too. Her arms were bare, instead. She added a ponytail. And some really silly looking pointy shoes.
Personally, I found this to be her sexiest costume ever, mainly for the cleavage (and Dick Dillin's art.)
The costume George Perez designed for her during her later JL days was- well, pretty well designed, as anything done by George was... but I felt it was missing something. No clear theme. Zat now had huge sleeves, a white stripe down a blue costume, and oddest of all, some kind of headpiece in the form of a- red bug? (which reminds me of one of my favorite Blue Devil moments, when he met her and flirted with her, but just couldn't resist saying, "Not many women would get away with wearing a bug on their head!" :D )
For a while, after the Crisis, Zat had a TRULY awful costume, yet again based on a stage magician's, but containing none of the good elements of her first one. White shirt, short hair, mini-cape, pants. Honestly, she looked more like a majorette. Good thing it didn't last.
Since then, Zat has been using her old one, mainly, which is good, thought I still wish she'd lose the top hat.
BTw, has Zat gone blonde, or was that a miscoloration of the promotional art I saw for the latest Books of Magic? She's definitely better as a brunette.
Other than her costume, Zatanna needs to stop using backwards words as magic spells (that was funny, but it's too silly, not to mention totally unnecessary since she HAS used normal spells on more than one ocassion.)
And if we could retcon her affair with Constantine out of existence...

Yes, wonderful example of the editorial thinking at DC at the time: First, they take a poll to see who readers would most like to see join the JLA. Then, when Zatanna wins, they take away all the trademarks of the character (the stage magic, the backwards speaking, the costume, the rest of the look of the character), essentially making her a different character with the same name.

Ha! That's one of my all time favorite costumes! True, when Cos would sometimes have chesthair (?I think?) it was a bit outlandish. But it is just a great costume IMO:) Some can have their female fav's run around in thongs, some of us can have Cos's costume;)
When Uncanny went Manga-ish about a year or so ago, those costumes were pretty weak (Polaris, Angel, etc.)
Ragman or Crazy Quilt's were pretty bad, as was the original Calculator (ie anyone who's costume reflects their name).
The Hypno Hustler from Amazing Spiderman was one of the all time worst incorporations of disco into superheroics/villainy. Some may point to Dazzler, but the Hypno Hustler was the worst.

Let's see. Someone already beat me to the fan-designed Legion outifts. Someone of those atrocities were used in actual Legions stories.
I strongly concur on...
Jericho: "All the World's a Stage at the Renaissance Faire! Huzzah!"
Peacemaker: Is that a toilet seat on his hear, or an Edsel grill?
For your consideration:
Kole: She may have been created to die, but her costume was created for a future Ice Capades review.
Skateman (http://ape-law.com/GAF/Page28/index.html): Not only one of the worst costumes, but one of the worst comics of all time. A long-haired blond Anglo on rollerskates wearing tight tight shorts who likes to pal around with pre-pubescent boys (and give them live hand grenades). Just the hero the Hispanic community would be looking to embrace! (Skateman considered himself a defender of migrant workers.)
Am I the only one here who actually LIKED most of the 70's Legion costumes? Most of them where designed by the great Dave Cockrum, and while they were Mod-influenced indeed, I still think they worked. Hey, lots of exposed female flesh! :evilsmile This wasn't the "kid" LoSH anymore! I even liked some of the fan-designed ones, like Duo Damsel's; the way it became TWO differently-colored costumes when she "splitted". Hey, you gotta give it points for originality! Ironically, the ones I didn't like were the ORIGINAL LoSH costumes... bland and boring, especially Saturn Girl's!

I've gotta say, I loved them too, even Cos's "boy bustier."
Still, I did like that when Cos changed to a new costume after that, he mentioned that he'd never really been satisfied with any of his costumes. And when Keith Giffen took over the book in '89, Cos rarely appeared in anything more daring than a 20th century vintage trenchcoat.

i gotta admit that i always liked wonderman's red safari jacket/shades...i know if i ever turned into a superhero, i'd be much more likely to sport this style than one of those dorky aeorobics outfits..
also, i must second the vote for the original robin look...it took me about 20 years to realize he was supposed to look like robin HOOD--i was always puzzled why any hero would name himself after some punk bird that my grandma could crush in her fist (even when her arthritis is acting up.)

but but but there's a whole poem her father speaks in the original Books of Magic about talking backward and why its important to magic and stuff. i don't remember if it was a good poem (i'm at work-- i don't have the book with me) but if Neil writes a poem about it, its important, right?
i like how Zatanna went from 'mainstream' to 'Vertigo' without changing the concept or the character of the costume (okay, they changed her BACK to her original concept)... same thing happened to Phantom Stranger, i think.

Jeremy, what is the relationship, if any, between those comics you are always pushing and Hero Games?
Hey, maybe I can answer that one, Bartl!
Back in the 80s, Hero Games put out CHAMPIONS, the first (I think) Super Hero Role Playing Game (of the tabletop sort.) As a fan of both comics AND RPGs, I must say that the superheroes and villains in Champions (as well as the universe on which they were set on) were among the few whose quality, in my opinion, compared to Marvel or DC's. While some of their characters were obvious rip-offs (Dr. Destroyer = Dr. Doom, Mechanon = Ultron, etc.) the vast majority struck me as original, and in fact, many of the concepts on the game struck me as logical and more than worthy of being used in actual comics (example: M.E.T.E was an organization stablished to greet (or otherwise deal with) aliens that came to Earth. Given how many where always dropping by on DC and Marvel, you'd think they would've stablished something like that long ago!) Now, there WERE Champions comics, but I was never able to find them, only the (excellent) game sourcebooks, which BTW also had artwork even BETTER than many comics of the time!) The Champions comics didn't last long, but given that they were *not* Marvel or DC titles, that is hardly surprising.
Now, if I remember correctly, Flare started as a Champions character (though I never saw her in the books) and she was very popular as a comic (or at least hyped a lot!) back in the 80's. I didn't care much for her as she struck me as just another of the sexy-but-brainless heroines that would soon dominate comics for a while, so I never read her comics. Of course, I could've been wrong in my assesment. Anyway, I think she also crossed over with Femforce, might've even been a member- or maybe that was another, similar character? J.A.P. will surely give us details on that.

Back in the 80s, Hero Games put out CHAMPIONS, the first (I think) Super Hero Role Playing Game (of the tabletop sort.)
Not quite the first; there was Superhero 2044, Superworld (from Worlds of Wonder), and Villains and Vigilantes (I have copies of the first and third). It was, however, the first PLAYABLE superhero roleplaying game (well, Superhero 2044 worked pretty well, but it was stuck in a specific universe).
Around that time, I started to negotiate with Aaron Allston (who was an editor with them at the time) a set of mass combat rules (using Swords & Spells style 10:1 ratios). The mathematics was actually somewhat complex, and I gave up when trying to figure out how to work explosions (they were a REAL bitch, and I was working with Lotus 1-2-3 and BASICA). I could probably do it now, but the current Hero rules are much more complex than they were back then.
Wow! So you actually worked for Hero games?? You see, that's why I love this boards, I get the chance to actually converse with people behind some of my favorite hobbies! (And most turn out to be nice people!) :) An honor, sir!
Yeah, I liked the Hero System a lot (Fourth Edition) though I always felt it was a bit math-heavy; but, I let the Game Masters worry about those things, it was the character creation system (and the stablished characters) that really held my attention. To this day, I still think Champions had the best Super Powers list of any game I've seen, and the best options for modifying them!
So, (seguing back into costumes) could you tell me if any comics pros worked on the character designs? Because, again, I just felt they were TOO good to be done by amateurs.

Here's something that deserves mention on this forum (from Icv2.com):
Anime Premieres Announced
'Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo' & 'IGPX'
September 08, 2005
Galaxy Anime is reporting that the anime comedy series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo will debut on the Cartoon Network's Toonami block on Friday, September 30th at 10:30 pm (ET, PT) and the first episode of IGPX will air on Saturday, November 5th at 10 pm (ET, PT). Produced by Toei (DBZ) and based on a popular Shueisha manga, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is a hilarious action/sci-fi/comedy about a hero who can fight with his hair. Viz is publishing one volume of the 18-volume (and counting) Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo manga series in November (no word on additional volumes). So far Toei has not awarded the Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo anime home video license for North America.
IGPX, which is a co-production of the Cartoon Network and Production IG (Ghost in the Shell), is the first original series created for Toonami and the first full-scale (rather than just financing) collaboration between the Cartoon Network and an anime studio (see "Naruto Heads to Toonami").

That costume Hawkeye wore once he gave up being Goliath, without the mask and the little, little pants. Not to mention the one he sported in the Avengers cartoon.
Plus, there are about a million obscure Rob Liefeld characters sitting out there, though I'd have to go with Shatterstar at the top of the list. I nominate him for worst hair, too.

Here are some more comic book stars wearing the BILLY RAY CYRUS-inspired hairstyle:
*TONY STARK(This ladies' man used to have a major mullet.)
*LONGSHOT (This former X-MAN was a true master of the mullet.)
*ROGUE from Marc Silvestri's tenure on "The UNCANNY X-MEN"
*Even two alternate reality versions of ARCHIE ANDREWS got into the MULLET ACTION in two early-1990s ODDBALL comic book titles: ARCHIE 3000, which starred a mullet-wearing alternate future version of ARCHIE ANDREWS; & "EXPLORERS of the UNKNOWN", which starred an alternate reality mullet-sporting ARCHIE analogue who was the leader of a variation of the CHALLENGERS of the UNKNOWN!
*CAPTAIN PLANET
*MAJOR VICTORY of the GUARDIANS of the GALAXY

I just have to say it...... The Legion of Superheroes had the worse costumes to date!
Examples
Blok's 2nd costume
Duo Damsel's 1st and 3rd
Monel's 1st (looks like M.Bison)
TYROC (gayest outfit ever. Wait, gay people wouldn't even wear it! It be too gay!)
Power Boy (Luke Cage wannabe!)
Aviax (worst hair too!)
Grimbor (why did they have so many male strippers on their team!)
Elvo
Dartalon
Jo Nah (another male stripper!)
Color Kid (he has the gay flag as a logo.... Nuff said)
Shadow Kid
And special guest..... Hunter from the Legion of Super Villians
(I'm not here to insult gay people, but the LSH suits are insulting them anyway.)

Four of the costumes you, KID KAMAKAZE 10, might be referring to are as follows:
*BLOK 2nd: The circa-1986 black vest with turtleneck outfit!
*DUO DAMSEL 1st: circa-ADVENTURE COMICS #341; actually her old TRIPLICATE GIRL costume!
*DUO DAMSEL 3rd: circa-1983 KIETH GIFFEN get-up: The yellow cape & yellow hip boots/Cockrum boots were taken out; the arms & legs were covered, & Mr. GIFFEN gave her a truly-bizzare DURAN DURAN-inspired hairdo!)
*MON-EL 1st: circa-ADVENTURE COMICS #300

*Which of the 1970s-era LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the BEST?
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the WORST?
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the ODDEST?
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes are your FAVORITES?

Best: Phantom Girl, with Saturn Girl being a close second. THe Saturn Girl costume was designed by Kim Metzger, a long time comic book fan
WOrst Dawnstar. CHer called. SHe wants the outfit back, including the wings.
Oddest: Chameloen BOy: In a couple of stories it was implied that wasn't a costume. He may have been naked and creating hte illusion he was wearing a costume

You have made some good choices, Carson:
*PHANTOM GIRL: This costume was the DAVE COCKRUM-designed all-white bell-bottom costume with the pigtails; I started off a thread that involved around super-hero costumes themed on 1970s trends with THAT costume!
* SATURN GIRL:This costume received mixed reactions from fandom (SIJO actually considers this costume as the WORST of the 1970s LEGION costumes, telling us that it was the CHEESIEST attempt to sexualize a female LEGIONNARE for the sake of sexualization; He told us that the costume has no connection to TELEPATHY or SATURN; & PINK????????)
(By the way, SIJO had voted the 1970s-Era DUO DAMSEL costume as his BEST out of all of the 1970s-Era LEGION costumes: The way it became TWO differently-colored costumes when she SPLITS provided for some originality!)
*DAWNSTAR:Designed by MIKE GRELL, This costume COULD HAVE led to lawsuits from the CHER camp!
* CHAMELEON BOY: Weird costume designed by DAVE COCKRUM!
Thanks for voting, carson demmans!

Switching Black Window from a sensible Modesty Blaise outfit to a fishnet body stocking was stupid.

Saturn Girl's red bodysuit with all the cutouts was pretty bad.
Princess Projectra's formal one with the cape, long gloves and her beehive hairstyle was kinda odd.
However, both take a backseat to costumes that appeared in one backup story of the Legion where they did MALE versions of these same 2 costumes in some weird plot where they were testing the sanity of of the 2 ladies (and the readers I'd guess.)

Believe it or not, sometimes costumes are deliberately designed to be tacky. Flare's hideous orange costume with the red cape was such a thing. The joke was that because she was so proud she'd designed it herself, no one ever had the nerve to tell her how ugly it was. You'll notice that as soon as she got her own magazine, that joke was retired and the costume changed.
Similarly, the ongoing joke with Flare's electric little sister Sparkplug is that she's long since figured out exactly how stupid the name sounds. But it's a name that means something to her; it's the English translation of her childhood nickname. And since she's as stubborn as a mule, the more people tell her what she already knows, the more determined she becomes to throw it right back in their faces. As far as her yellow costume goes, she eventually discards it in favor of the leather-and-metal outfit she was wearing in the aborted Sparkplug mini-series of a decade or so ago. In the contemporary comics, we'll see that happen sometime around Flare #38.
The Heroic Publishing titles are full of jokes like these. Sometimes they're overt, sometimes they're subtle. In the end, they all derive from who the characters are, and from how they relate to each other. Because we normally do this kind of humor with an absolutely straight face, the more subtle jokes will often get missed, but if you look for them you'll see them.
Case in point: The "Dolf" stories that have been appearing as short back-up features in Flare. Many fans have told me they just don't get it. I suspect that's because the stories aren't at all what they appear to be. The "Dolf" stories aren't stories about a stupid little stick-boy. They're actually stories about how--and how differently--Flare and Sparkplug think. The conceit is that these are stories Flare and Sparkplug wrote and drew to entertain and amuse themselves when they were little. Read the "Dolf" stories with that in mind, and you very quickly learn a lot about just who the girls are.
But I'm digressing. I'll stop.

Forgot about Quality's golden age hero Firebrand's outfit. Red tied-in-the-back mask was ok but that puffy see-through pink blouse was a bit o' evidence about the guy's hidden nature.
Question: Why do motorcyclists wear leather jackets?

Hmmm. Thought we'd made it obvious from the get-go that the Sparkplug adventures featured in recent issues of Flare happen during a window of time between Champions v2 #7 and Champions v2 #10. What we're doing here is actually showing stuff that was previously only implied or alluded to. As I think I've explained elsewhere, there are many untold tales of Flare and other members of the League of Champions, stories that have for one reason or another never seen print.
Regarding that, I confess that I've always been puzzled by the expectation that stories and events are going to be told in chronological order. The narrative is often better if it isn't done that way. Sometimes the narrative even requires a shift in time.
This will, in Flare #34, produce a bit of a jarring moment for fans who may not have realized that the Sparkplug stories haven't been contemporaneous with the Flare stories. But that's kind of the thematic point. The last page of Flare #34, and what follows in Flare #35, is what the story arcs in the new Flare series have been building to.
No matter how far apart they are, Flare and Sparkplug are still sisters together.
And yes, the yellow costume does soon go away.

... of the DC Comics disco biker outfit fad!
I think that the 'disco biker suits' worn by Nightwing & Black Canary in the 1980s owed their existance to thr 1970s Dave Cockrum re-design of none other than, of all heroines... Shrinking Violet??
While not as talked about as the 1970s looks of Duo Damsel, Phantom Girl, Saturn Girl, Wildfire, or even Tyroc & Cosmic Boy's infamous 'man-bustier', Violet's Cockrum-designed 'new look' managed to inspire the looks of the aforementioned Nightwing & Black Canary costumes!
Before Cockrum's run, Vi had a lime-green with white trim uniform that made her the frumpiest of the girl Legionnaires. That all changed in Cockrum's re-design of her outfit in the pages of Superboy #193. In order to compensate for the ultra-frumpy 1960s costume, the new costume was a slick dark-green bodysuit with black trim that was also form-fitting, a massive improvement over the 1960s one. For more on the cockrum era, check out www.fanzing.com/mag/fanzing35/feature2.shtml
It was her green & black bodysuit that led to the 1980s looks of Nightwing & Black Canary!

And I felt that I have a few questions that I have to ask specifically for those four!
The questions are as follows:
*Which of the 1970s-era LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the BEST? Dream Girl, Star Boy, Element Lad, Shrinking Violet, Duo Damsel, Timber Wolf, Dawnstar, Phantom Girl.
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the WORST?
Colossal Boy, Princess Projectra.
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes do YOU consider to be the ODDEST?
Cosmic Boy--He always seemed too conservative to show so much skin!
*Which of the 1970s LEGION costumes are your FAVORITES?
Star Boy--the "star field" on black stands out as a classy design!
Dream Girl--simple additions to modify her Silver Age look work effectively in the 70's!
Shrinking Violet--it's a sleek design that flattered the character, although I prefer the purple variant.

Remember Flux magazine? It was a short-lived attempt by Harris Comics to compete with Wizard in the mid-1990s. It lasted only two years!
The first issue had a worst costumes of all time article that trashed the looks of Deathstroke, The Hulk, Aquaman, Robin, Doctor Mirage, Cable, Iron Fist, Major Victory, & Brother Voodoo!
But the number one slot went to costume that my friend Novaya Havoc loves so much (And Novaya would like to bash harris Publications for publishing that lame article). That costume was the 'disco era' silver costume worn by Alison Blaire, a.k.a. the Dazzler!
Now I will 'pass the mic' over to Novaya to tell us why Flux made a huge mistake!

I confess I liked Wonder Man's field jacket. I understand it had to be red... better than any of the hideous green outfits, or any black sleeveless outfits (Dont even mention the mullet haircut). Come to think of it, the field jacket was the only costume that said ''I'm wearing civilian clothes. I have issues of inferiority on a team with Cap, Thor etc.'' Kinda felt like he was identifying with the normal Joe more so than ''Super'' people. I know they changed his whole confidence thing now, but I really liked that about him, that he was this powerhouse that was just a nervous wreck.
Also... I liked the original DD suit. Shoot me, I know, but I was really young when I discovered DD and I just thought he looked cooool. I think I was tired of seeing it about the time they made it solid red.
And I thought all of Logan's outfits have been hideous except the brown one, in the 80s. It was a little more subdued than the tiger stripe with blue piping sissy suit that he started with (and they brought it back???) and all the other suits he's ever worn.
Oh and the stupid matching leather the X-Men wear/wore. Gayyyyyyy.

Pretty Awful
The only time I saw the Clock King, it was in a '80s Justice League issue... and there, his outrageous costume played very well with the humorous tone the series had back then!

I think that "Big Sir" from the Flash comic book series, had the worst costume, ever.
*shudders*
The bare top of his pointed, bald head poked out from from his cowl, and he had these retarded gold sandals for no reason whatsoever. And his real name was... I still can't believe it...
"Doofus P. Ratchet".
Jesus H. Christ.
"Big Sir" was a conceptual nightmare, and his outfit was a costuming disaster. He wasn't a character... he was a comicological bowel movement. What blunt-force head wound victim designed this useless schlemiel of a character and his awful, awful costume?

There was a special issue of Doom Patrol back in the 90's that created a team which was a total mockery of just about every lame team and character which Rob Liefeld ever created.
They had several characters -- such as the living mountain, called "Shasta" --all of which were completely adolescent and so poorly-scripted as to be unbelievable. The art was such a slap at Liefeld... I loved it.
I would say that the costumes of this team were pretty ridiculous.

Ronnigon... you better look out, I heard Dr. Bong is hiding out somewhere in Nunavut... Been wondering, how do you buy comics up there... Is it all e-bay? Must be tough... What is there, like 1 comic shop per 1 million square miles... Or do you find perfectly preserved copies of Amazing Fantasy 15 frozen in the permafrost. Enjoy your posts.

How do I get my comics, way out in Nunavut?
The answer is simple: polar bears can be trained as courier pigeons... with the little baskets on their backs and everything.
And I'm glad you enjoy my posts. I'm a reclusive paranoid, and when I'm not boarding up the windows and counting my milk bottles full of saved urine, I have occasion to be a little funny.

A German, perhaps leftover from the last goldrush. When your pan ran dry, you feverishly turned to tales of superheroes. It is logical.

The Malice Polaris just reflected the 80's style: Teased hair with an inspiration from Dane's Shi'ar Dave Cockrum costume. Evil Polaris was cool. Sure, she looks dated now. But Lorna Dane says "groovy" in an old issue of X-Men. The Malice Polaris is just a sign of the times.
