View Full Version : Anyone else getting bombarded by these ads?
Ok I just installed the ad blocker for Firefox lately because I'm getting tired of these ads..
Specifically the "I got ripped in 30 days ads" or the 4 weeks variation, every where I went I seemed to be getting bombarded by this ad, even here, false advertising aside these ads can not be legit. Especially if I'm getting them from here.
Has anyone else been getting hit up by these ads nonstop? Where are they coming from?

No its not a pop up, its just a banner, but the damn thing seems to be every where, I saw it occasionally up at the type, before I installed ad blocker.

Yeah, there have been a lot of pop-ups trying to come through on this site for the past few days. No idea why it's happening all of a sudden though.....

Oh yeah. Every time I come here on the work computer (on my lunch break only!).
I really need to get an admin password for that thing so I can install a proper browser with an ad blocker.

I don't get pop-up ads but for me CBR is bombarded with those weight loss and teeth whitening ads.

That was the same here until I installed Ad blocker. I really hated to do that cause most of the ads here are legitimate ads that promote comics and comic related products that pay for this site.
Normally I don't have a problem with legitimate ads that are obvious connected to the site, apart from the slowdown they may cause.
But to often I've been seeing those anonymous and miscellaneous illegit adds for dating services, teeth whitners and what not, I occasionally see them when converting videos using PS3 video 9 because the program is directly linked to a banner based website, and it uses IE.

You can block some ads by right/alt clicking, then click Block Image (or Images). But you have to be careful where you block images. You can actually block images from some of your favorite sites. Might not want to do that here. But blocking images is a BIG time saver if you are on dial up, as I used to be.

Every time I was on internet there was an ad...
"<MyName> !!! sexy girls from Rio de Janeiro that would love to talk to you".
I mean... seriously... wtf. They know my name, they know my city... and they know I am lonely too !!!! (lol)
It freaked me out... then I changed the MAC of my CPU, and I started use proxy.
The girls are still there, but now it appears a different name for me, and the girls are not near =P. I am quite happy now... since the girls now are from Frankfurt, Paris, Berlin, Washington... etc.
=P
Yay for the diversification!
heheh
Seriously, I hate these kind of ads. Few time ago i bought a digital camera on internet... all ads start to be about SD card, MemoryStick, Digital Photo Magazines, etc etc etc...
( I mean... can I have some privacy?! For the god sake.)

30 days? HA! In just seven days, I can make you a man! (Yeah, I've been watching Rocky Horror today:wink: )
nope nothing new here. and thankfully, that one (top banner ad) with the voice stopped, "Congratualtions!, You've won!"
I don't mind ads, but when you can't avoid them b/c they talk, it's quite annoying.
