Since hellboy vol 3 is now out, and really it will be a while before we get a vol 5, Do we think there will be a bprd library edition? I'd really love to get them! Anyone heard anything recently?

I have not heard anything recently.
However in the past i read that it is not planed.
I might suggest however that because of the large amount of BPRD material out there ...and the faster pace of publishing BPRD books ... that if they do make Library editions they make them fatter than the Hellboy library editions. For example instead of 2 volumes per edition they have 3 or even 4 TPB volumes per library edition.
Or maybe instead of having a hard cover library edition make a "phone book" style collection for BPRD with 4 or 5 TPB volumes included.
I have only seen "phone book" editions in black and white ... do they make giant editions in color? i would hope so, because a larger collection of collections should be an upgrade in quality not a down grade. (actually i think spawn is in color, or maybe its not a "phone book" style but just a TPB.)
If BPRD wants new readers it needs to be easier to catch up with the story and having 11 or 12 TPB's to collect is too much, thats why i support a collection of collections 3 or 4 library books would be acceptable.

If they start selling "phone book style" books I'm hunting you down man. I hate those, and we already have the TBPs.

I do remember someone saying there were no plans for BPRD library editions, which is a real shame as the BPRD has become a series that is regularly as good, if not better, than Hellboy, and i really think there would be a market for them.

i'd buy 'em!
I'd buy 'em, too! I love the large pages of bigger art.

I'm curious, are the library versions really worth it? Do they have anything extra besides what we already know from the TPBs? Because I'm kind of counting every dime I spend, and I've already bought most of the TPBs...
there is a lot more never before seen sketchbook material in the library editions...that's one of the things i love .and the larger format is awesome, to see the art in all its glory is very cool.

It's so worth it. I got Vol. 1 & 3 this week (with the borders 40% off coupon that ends today. Would've got Vol. 2 if I saw it)
Great quality re-production in a larger format .
Vol 1. (after Wake The Devil) features two 4-page short stories (I'm assuming they're both kind of promo stories before S.O.D. was released):
4-page short by Mignola & Byrne with Anubis the big-ol' monster dog,
and
a 4 page short with Brutus (known now as Kriegaffe) and Herman Von Klempt.
4 Original Concept splash pages including the very first drawing of Hellboy, the original group lineup drawing for, what is now known as, BPRD (pre-Daimio and pre-Johann) and 2 other HB pages.
oh, cannot forget the 29 pages of sketch book content!
Vol 3. Has almost 40 pages of sketchbook content in the end (I just counted), The original begining (8 pages worth) of THE ISLAND, all in black and white.
I wish I could still find a matching THE ART OF HELLBOY in the library edition with the red foil lettering. makes me sad. Anybody that can help me find one, I'd appreciate it.

Those black and white unused inked pages from The Island are gorgeous. I keep going back and looking at them. That is one of the best things about these books, you get to look at the art work on a scale that is much closer to the size of Mike Mignola's original drawings.

The hardcover is very nice and you will not be disappointed. Splurge, it's well worth it. Just take all your loose change down to the nearest Coinstar and convert all your pennies, nickels, and dimes to an amazon.com gift certificate - and because you are getting a GC, there is no charge for the service.

and I agree. I never said it was not worth it, because I presumed it would be. It's just that I feel apprehensive for spending $60+ on a book. Last time was when Shepard Fairey (OBEY Giant) was signing at his art gallery opening in SF and I HAD to get the damn thing haha.
...and my coins ARE stacking up...
Thanks guys for the advice.

Do it! Do it! I just got all three in one go and they are amazing! I was talking myself out of it for so long, as I had all the tpb's, but I knew deep down that the Library Editions would be well worth the money...and they absolutely are. Give'r!

I've loved those pages since the Strange Places TPB. I'm so glad we get to see them in a large format size. I can't wait to see Mignolas Fungus men story. He says we will see it at some point...

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but the other day I asked Mike when volume 4 would be out, and he told me:
#4 is probably about a year and a half off--It will collect THE TROLL WITCH trade paperback and the (not yet published) CROOKED MAN trade paperback.

That is news to me!
That sounds like a great publishing choice because Troll witch and the forthcoming Crooked man volume are both short story collections ... where as Darkness Calls and The Wild Hunt are the main story arc ... and it makes it easier to follow the story when its less broken up
Im looking forward to getting it when it comes out

I wonder if #4 will include "In the Chapel of Moloch"? Also, #5 would be pretty substantial if they include both "Darkness Calls" and "The Wild Hunt"

It's funny how you place your books in chronological order from right to left ... I always place them from left to right (same as the western reading direction).

I always prefer hardcover editions. I like the sturdier binding, and larger physical dimensioned books give a better showcase for the artwork.
