I should've re-worded it, any graphic novel

These are totally just my opinion, I'm sure mant would disagree, but these are what I tell friends to pick up. (Marvel) Most of these are just TPB's from a run, not stand alone, but here goes...
Inhumans (2000) Paul Jenkins
Grant Morrison's New X-Men Collections 1-3
Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men 1-4
House & Son of M followed up by Silent War (Silent War being the star IMO)
Iron Man Extremis
Age of Apocolypse (for old stuff:smile: and long time readers)
Captain America Winter Soldier Vol. 1-2
Oh...and I finally got to read Angels and Demons (X-Force vol. 1) that as well.
Edit: X-Factor (new series) vol. 1 okay so that is a lot more that 10, but oh well.
And as alone as I may be, I really liked Messiah Complex

*AXM Vol. 1-4
*Watchmen
*Daredevil (Bendis' Omnibus)
*Iron Man: Extremis
*Madrox: Multiple Choice
*Y: The Last Man
*X-men: Supernovas (I would only recommend this to people who are already X-Men fans though)
*Immortal Iron Fist Omnibus
*Daredevil: Guardian Devil (I have a soft spot for this because it was pretty powerful to me as a kid)
*Fell: Feral City
*I'd recommend Messiah CompleX, but the jarring art shifts between issues make it hard to rec for new readers, as well as the referenced continuity points).

You have mighty fine taste!! You made me edit my choices:wink: It's hard to get an X-book that would not be at least enhanced by being a long time reader, I think Whedon's stuff is about as close as it gets. I hadn't really thought about Messiah being hard to follow, but I suppose you are right.

Age of Apocalypse-Still one of the most imaginative cross-over/event that Marvel has ever produced.
Days of Future past- A classic from when a dark future for the X-men didn't feel so hackneyed.
Neil Gaimans 1602- An au that sets the Marvel universe in the dawn of the settling of the new world. Brilliantly written, I can't recommend it enough.
Messiah Complex- Probably the best crossover of the past ten years.
X-cutioners song- Lame villain aside (Stryfe- the man whose mutant ability seems to be whining a lot), this crossover was great.
Non-x
Watchmen- Alan Moore's "parody" of the superhero genre is one of the finest Graphic Novels ever written.
From Hell-Forget the awful Movie Adaption, Alan Moore's take on the Jack the ripper story (and I say this as somebody who wasn't particularly interested in Jack the ripper) is a fascinating read, It includes a huge section in the back detailing his research for the book which is almost as good a read as the story itself.
V for Vendetta- Alan Moore again this time with a tale set in a Fascist controlled Britain, I'm not obsessed with the man, it's just his writing is second to none.
The Dark Knight Returns- Frank Miller's legendary tale of an older Batman, brought out of retirement is fantastic. Analysing what It would be like for Batman in this media led age we live in, it contains an epic battle between Batman and Superman.
Batman-The Killing Joke-Alan Moore's take on the Joker's origins is one of the darkest most twisted tales I have ever read.
One I liked but is much maligned by many- The Onslaught saga (it's nowhere near in the same league as the one's I've listed though).
One to avoid- Blood of Apocalypse- Even Ignoring the whole Death-bit thing, this novel is a mess. The X-writers try and do a Graphic Novel in the style of a Tarantino flick. What works in movies doesn't neccesarily work in other media.

Yeah, there's definitely crossover appeal w/ Whedon because his AXM contained a lot of the wit and levity that his film/tv stories are known for, and while his run has it's detractors for being one huge homage to golden age Claremont, that sort of makes it a good gateway book for new readers.

1) Grant Morrison's New X-Men
2) Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
3) Claremont/Larocca's X-Treme X-Men
4) PAD's X-Factor
5) Age of Apocalypse
6) The Origin of Generation X (Phalanx Covant)
7) Carey's X-Men
8) CK/CY's New X-Men
9) X-Men: Phoenix - Endsong
10) Mutant Genesis // X-Cutioner's Song
These are probably the books I reread and look through the most of all my tpbs. Messiah Complex too, but since X-Factor, New X-Men, and X-Men runs are on my list I figure it is implied.

You could post your question in the general Marvel thread as well if you like.
I don't have a lot of trades at the moment, but I'm working on it.
PAD's current run on X-Factor in Premiere HC (including the Madrox mini)
Waid/Wieringo Fantastic Four run in three Oversized HC
Fantastic Four: The End by Alan Davis in Premiere HC
Exiles Ultimate Collection vol. 1 & 2 (3 coming out in December) in TPB
You're only asking about Marvel titles, otherwise I'd have mentioned my Fables trades - most of all the Deluxe Edition vol.1 and the 1001 Nights of Snowfall HC - my TPB of The Pro and my TPBs of The Boys. Oh wait... I did.
I like them all, can't pick up just 10. There are some others I didn't mention anyway.
