Did Siryn Deserve to Have Her Throat Ripped Out by Feral?

I've recently been re-reading the New Hellions story arc which ran through X-Force 87 - 90. The story is really a bit of a mess, but shows that X-Force were really a terrible group of people to trust. The issue opens revealing that King Bedlam (not Jesse, but his better brother) refused to work with Frost during her original stint as the Hellion's teacher. Smart move. It's also revealed he had a relationship with Tarot, and while she was going to stay with Frost, Bedlam promised to return for her. We all know the Hellions died, including Tarot, but she was somehow brought back to life as discovered by James Proudstar, Warpath. He didn't act too concerned to see her though. How rude. Later in the issue, we learn of Tabitha (Boom Boom) whoring around with Sam AND Bobby. Ridiculous. What kind of girl sleeps with her Bro's best friend? We also see Moonstar with some strange powers she doesn't understand, but instead of trusting her team & staying to the sidelines she rushes to be a part of battle with them. Dangerous. Later, Magma appears and the first thing Domino does is attack. What a bitch. Magma was a friend. Essentially, the issue has X-Force treating each other and former colleagues poorly, but that's just the tip of the iceburg.

Enter FERAL! Not only does she greet the team wanting a hug, but she reminds them of how cruel they were to her by throwing her behind bars for defending herself against a rapist. X-Force never convicted Rusty for burning that chick in the sewers. Boom Boom never paid for being a slutty call girl/theif. Siryn was a theif as well for a while, and Sunspot was a killer named Reignfire. This seems awfully unfair. Seems X-Force got a free pass at everything while Feral was forced to suffer in the Vault. Sunspot then abuses her more by hitting on her and calling her fur "pretty" then trying to burn her. Feral leaves to do a heroes work and take care of a senator who supported Operation Zero Tolerance. Sounds like something the current X-Force would do. Anyway, Feral, Magma, Tarot and Bedlam all get attacked by X-Force for trying to set things right and spread some justice to the corrupt Senator.

The battle is pretty intense, and at one point Siryn screams in Feral's ear. Feral is a CAT. She has super-sonic hearing. That sort of noise could easily drive her mad or insane. Siryn doesn't need to be attacking people like that and Feral reacted like anyone would, defensively. She stopped the noise that was deafening her. I'm half deaf IRL, and it's not fun. Feral did nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned. X-Force was constantly betraying their friends selectivly and Feral was tired of their non-sense and of Siryn's incredibly rude behavior. Did Siryn deserve to be attacked?

I didn't know that, Swash. I can see how this story must have touched a nerve for you.
I've read this arc, you make a good point about them being kinda shitty to their ex-team mates, especially with current X Force operating beyond the law. It wasn't a particularly good time for the title. I wasn't that pleased to see Magma get screwed around.

It was the best time for X-Force. The New Hellions are one of my all time favourite teams.
I liked Sunspot flirting/threatening Feral, it's something very "in" with her character.
Yeah, Siryn was being very annoying, Feral was just defending herself.

I suppose if it had just been Feral I may have not have felt so passionate about this story, but when several of X-Force's old friends are there and the team just attacks them I am distraught. What is their problem? Theresa has also been on the other side of the law. She knows better and paid for her ignorance.

But Sam always trusted her !! You could feel the friendship !!
Besides, who, in his right senses, would hug feral?. You saw what Rahne did to Josh when he hugged her, and Rahne was always the nice one !!

I agree with the OP. X Force 87 was one of thr first X-books issues I ever bought and I remember thinking: these are not heroes, these are a bunch of douches. Why is Marvel trying to confuse my maleable 12-years old mind?

As a Banshee fan Leirus, do you think he'd approve of his daughter deafening and old freind? I don't tink he would. Banshee would have handled this much differently. I'm not saying Feral deserved a high-five, but theres no need to sonic scream at her. Siryn got her punishment.

Wow I was never a fan of Domino but learning that she was an uber bitch to Magma makes me dislike her a lot more. Amara should have burnt her to a crisp.
As for the main question, yes I think Siryn deserved it. You've outlined your case and backed it up well. Also Siryn is annoying so that alone is grounds for the attack. But seriously Feral is probably the one that helped Siryn get off the bottle so Terry should have thanked her. Maria was a child of neglect and abuse and X-Force basically treated her with neglect and abuse, it was a vicious cycle and the least Siryn could do was be understanding.

Since being a member of the team since issue 3, she had like NO character development until her throat got ripped off. It's too bad they dropped that story with her getting her voice back with an amulet.

Let me look. A lot of times Siryn is too much of a bitch to do her own dirty work and she sends her man-servant Warpath to do it. It's pretty horrible of her. She also gets angry in teh issue whent eh team doesn't intially want to follow her lead. Siryn needed a drink clearly so she could chill out.

She was dying of the Legacy Virus at the time and was lashing out at the world. I'd hardly blame her for that. Maria confronted her problems head on unlike Siryn who wallowed in self pity.

interesting observations, swash. very thoughtful.
i don't know what i'd do if someone were screaming energy into my face, but i can see how feral would get aggressive in that situation. it is a natural instinct to protect ourselves.
feral is also feline, and her senses are better than humans. so, the pain was probably double for her, and it make sense that her reaction would be doubled too.
siryn's lucky feral didn't do worse, imho.

I'm pretty sure X-Force were labeled Terrorists as well. Intentions don't mean much to the goverment. And if X-Force cared they would have tried to help Feral out with her problem with the Legacy Virus instead of ignoring her.

I hate to say "she had it coming," because no one deserves violence like that (except for Magneto). Nevertheless, I wasn't sorry to see it happen. Characters with the same powers as their parents (like Spider-Girl, Polaris, Rachel Grey and Siryn) need to GTFO. I'd rather have the classics. This also happened at a time when it was becoming clear that there were WAY too many X-Men type characters and it was time to start clearing the chaff.

Kinda agree. Both of theme are over the top Irish stereotypes but at least Banshee is a badass, while his daughter doesn't really have anything unique going for her other than she whines a lot.
When I read X Factor I hear her dialogue in my head as a high pitched squeaky voice like nails down a blackboard.

It might help her deal with what happened with Madrox, as well.

That's such a Claremontian way to develop a female character. Break her down and then... break her down some more. Then have her go nuclear and eat a star and then kill herself.

While I never cared for Feral much, if I recall, this led into a rather interesting dropped thread in which the still-recovering Siryn gets her hands on what looked like a 'sister' to the Malice choker in X-Force 99 or 100 and flew off. A thread that has gone....solidly nowhere.
A later plot in Wolverine 155-156 by Rob Liefeld had her get her powers back thanks to some serum or whatever, Rob apparently ADMITTED that he hadn't bothered to do his homework before plotting the damn storyline, and so, the necklace thing just sorta went nowhere.
I blame Rob Liefeld and his creation, Feral, ENTIRELY for this glaring plot hole.
