Not saying there is enough demand for such a thing, but if there ever were a Dr. Strange movie, I think that Wayne Coyne would have to play him. If you don't know who he is, he's the lead singer of the Flaming Lips, check google images for some photos. He already has a mysterious aspect about him, he's a great showman, and so would provide a great on screen presence, and he's probably available to work cheap! I'm not even saying you have to give Dr. Strange his own movie (even though that would be awesome) but at least give him a bit part in an avengers movie, maybe even a sequel. Let's make this happen by the shear force of the comic book community demanding stuff until it happens (like Sam Jackson as Nick Fury).

I think he is getting a movie after the Avengers film. They mentioned his name in future projects.

His whole existence in the movie was kind of a surprise until after it happened.
In any event, given that whoever gets the role has to be able to say "By the Hoary Hoasts of Hoggoth!" while keeping a straight face, better to go with a guy who has more acting experience than the dude from Flaming Lips.

You gotta admit though, that looks-wise he does resemble the good doctor. Also, the Flaming Lips are kinda cool

OK, but given the release schedule, you're talking a movie that's at least, what 3, 4 years away?
But beyond that, I'd rather go with someone that has the acting chops than someone who has some gray streaks in their hair. Worst case scenario, you can always dye in the gray streaks. Or the black. Or whatever. But guy in a band has no box office draw, or even reliable buzz that can make him a "won't mess the movie up" factor in a movie where the license is the key draw to begin with.
But as things go, I'd still hold out for Johnny Depp or something more like that.

Well you could always get a big name to play dormammu or whatever. I doubt Wayne would be interested in acting in a big movie, I just thought the resemblance was kind of great. I'm surprised they actually are making a movie, it seems less likely to do well than most of the "hero" archetypes that have spawned successful franchises. God knows we don't want another Ghost Rider on our hands. Maybe let someone like Neil Gaiman write the script and you might have something.

they'll give the role to Jake Gyllenhaal so none of you will see it coming.
i'm only somewhat joking but comic book movies aren't made for fans (or movies in general). they want butts in the seats and something they can craft a toyline around. would the name Wayne Coyne really encourage some ADD-riddled kid to watch a movie about Doctor Strange?

Depp's got the action figure pull. And experience with gray hair streaks.

Really, not like Gyllenhaal has the BO draw either. Last thing he starred in that made money was what, Brokeback? Did Zodiac make money? It was more ensemble, though.

that's why i posted the pic of Prince of Persia. Doctor Strange, if it comes out, won't for a while. who knows what he will be doing then? who knows what Depp will be doing. isn't Depp overly obvious? isn't he always a candidate?

Yes, he is. He was also a Bruce Banner candidate for a good long while. I know, he's almost too obvious. But so was Norton as Banner. And he's also probably the best choice on Strange.

I still want Eddie Murphy to play the Sorcerer Supreme.
There really needs to be a strictly enforced moratorium on fan-casting Johnny Depp as EVERYONE!

Only if we also put a ban on anyone who ever worked with Joss Whedon.
Seriously though, Strange is the only character I would want Depp as.

i don't think he'd do it. too close to some of his other work ex. Ninth Gate. but who knows? maybe it will happen.

Can't think of who'd be good for Strange or Clea or Umar or Mordo, etc. No, wait, Monica Bellucci or Salma Hayek (in From Dusk to Dawn mode) for Umar.

So basically any hot busty woman would do.
So basically any hot busty woman would do.Hot and busty are always good, but they should also have long black hair and be able to convincingly pull off a certain aristocratic and other-worldly air. I honestly can't think of anyone other than those two right now who might be able to do all that. Hayek showed she could, visually at least, as the vampire queen in FDtD.
The problem with Clea is that she'd have to possess most of the above qualities as well as an almost angelic purity and innocence. Can't think of anyone right now who'd be able to do that. Audrey Hepburn might have been interesting, although I can't picture her with white or ash blonde hair.
A few years ago I would have suggested Elizabeth Hurley for Victoria Bentley, but I haven't seen her lately, so not sure if she's aged out of the role.

I agree with everything except the long black hair comment. Find a woman that can play the part and put her in a wig if need be. There are plenty of good stylist who can make it look good. Or if the woman just has long hair, it can be styled and colored any way needed for the role.
And if you want an actress who can be aristocratic and other worldly, Morena Baccarin comes to mind right away.

And if you want an actress who can be aristocratic and other worldly, Morena Baccarin comes to mind right away.I agree in theory - no reason you can't change someone's hair for the role; I picked naturally black-haired actresses because I already suspect from experience they'd look right (IMO, of course) for the part. I'd have to see the natural blonde or redhead in the new hair before I'd be able to tell what I thought. And also, most of the best-looking actresses right now seem to be brunettes. I can't think of many blondes or redheads currently, who really knock me out.
Which reminds me of two other dark-haired beauties who might be worthy of consideration: Kelly Hu and Francoise Yip. I'm not sure Hu could pull off the aristo attitude, but I do think that one of her best performances was as a villain in that Jet Li/Mark Dacascos flick Cradle 2 the Grave. Come to think of it, she played the damsel in distress in the Scorpion King too, so maybe she could be Clea.
I don't agree about Baccarin, although she's certainly very good-looking. A bit too soft and sweet for the part of Umar, I'd say.

You might reserve judgment on that until after Tuesday nights premiere of the new "V" miniseries. She is playing Diana, and may just prove to be both soft and hard for that role.

Yeah.... SyFy just ran the original series all weekend long. I remember it being really good, but looking back at it now... it is kind of cheesy. I look forward to seeing what they do with the re-imagined series.
