That's a great list. I'd add Eddie Campbell, Bryan Talbot, Dylan Horrocks, Chynna Clugston-Major, Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon, Paul Chadwick, and Matt Wagner.

I find your lack of Jeff Smith disturbing.

Throw in some Jeff Lemire, Mike Oeming and Mike Allred as well and we're golden.

Like Fanboy one I thought of immediately was Bryan Talbot. Partly because of strength of his writing, in particular his marked ability to make a wide range of material interesting.

Another writer/ artist I really like is Tim Truman.

I'm saving it for the right time...

Eduardo Risso
I don't know what 'minded' means, but it's hard to say Risso is 'independent'.

Read it last night. It's a very good action/adventure thriller. Not really anywhere near Alice in Sunderland or The Adventures of Luther Awkwright im terms of the 'wow' factor, but definitely a great piece of comics storytelling from a true master. Just a lot of fun.

I get your point, considering he's most well known for 100 Bullets, but a lot of work has been on things like Borderline and his horror title, which I bellieve were originally put out by European publishers. By American standards, that might as well be 'independent'.

by most accounts risso is very indie. most of his work has been Argentinian, European, and most of his American work has been indie as well

it's not like 100 bullets started out with the fanfare it has now. it was a rather grassroots growth. just because we recognize it as being a big title nowadays certainly doesn't mean it started out that way. - the series started in '99 it's had plenty of time to build to where it is now.
