Yay, Sweden.

Hopefully Americans will wise up soon and allow same-sex marriage. I still don't see why some people care who other people marry. Plus, gay marriage/weddings would certainly help this terrible economy!

Church of England spokesman Steve Jenkins said relations between his church and the Church of Sweden may become strained because of the decision.

Why does the fucking Church of England give a Damn what the Lutheran Church of Sweden does?

Wasn't the CoE formed so they could ignore the Catholic Church?

That's quite a non-sequitir there.

From the sodding article:

Individual pastors will still be permitted to refuse to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples.

Though why that would be the first question you ask is beyond me. Do you just assume all priests are homophobes?

So its kinda exactly what the church of Norway has been doing for the last two years?

They didn't like the Catholic Church was doing in the UK so they split, but they're getting their knickers in a twist about what the Lutheran Church is doing in Sweden? Admittedly, that split was a while ago. But it's interesting that their first response is to go negative rather than say "hey, it's their church, it's their business".

Actually, the original C of E/Catholic split was because Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife because she hadn't given him a son and heir and he wanted to marry his mistress thinking she would give him the kids he wanted. The church wouldn't grant the annulment, though. There were also some issues of Henry wanting to be able to control the church and more importantly it's coffers rather than having it all that money and power go to some old guy in Rome.

But that's neither here nor there.

Fair enough. It just seemed like Flamebird was suggesting that the Lutherans are Catholics.

Nope, was saying why does a church in another country, that isn't even Lutheran care what Sweden does.

Makes no sense to me.

And, yes, Stress; I understand the Henry stuff, but it boiled down to England telling the pope to piss off.

But either way, good on the Church of Sweden.
