View Full Version : Daredevil: Omnibus or Trades?

I've recently reached a crossroads with my DD collecting, and I'm looking for some advice. I buy the title monthly as it comes out, but for ease of rereading purposes, in the past I would also buy the hardcovers. This all changed, however, when Marvel decided to switch from the periodic HC format for DD to strictly omnibuses. As it is, I have HC volumes 1-6, plus the first four TPBs of Brubaker's work ("Inside & Out" and "Hell to Pay", parts 1 & 2). I stopped there, though, thinking that maybe I should switch over to the omnibus format.

Is it worth it? Any extras in Vol. 1 of the Brubaker omnibus worth having? I have Miller's omnibus and companion, and they're great, but for the regular series I sort of feel like maybe the trades are enough. The omnibuses seem pretty unwieldy as well, at least in terms of casually sitting down to read something. I'm asking because I currently have "Cruel and Unusual" and "Lady Bullseye" on hold at my shop, and I'd like to let the owner know whether he can put them back on the shelf or not come this weekend.

Many thanks.

I would say don't bother buying something you already have. The extras are rarely that great anyway. More filler than anything.

If you have the tpb/hardcovers already, only buy the omnibus if you dont have 50% or 75% of that run. The Bendis Omnibus and Brubaker are well worth it. But not if you bought it already.

Thanks, that's sort of my line of thought as well, but it's always nice to get some reassurance. I'm not really planning on buying Brubaker's first omnibus since I already have the trades, but if someone had said (or says) there's some mind-blowing extra in it worth having, I may have reconsidered.

Mulling it over for a bit, I'll probably go the omnibus route moving forward. Does anyone know when the second volume of Brubaker's work on Daredevil will be released, though? Or what issues it will include, considering just #106 - #120 seems sort of light for an omnibus?

Thanks again, everyone.

I find these omnubi to be very unwieldy. Trades above those in almost every case.

Slightly on topic. Can someone point me to the... uh, starting point of the Daredevil getting control of the Hand plot? I prefer issues, but if it's as far back as I've been lead to believe, trades it is.

Start with #111, or the "Lady Bullseye" trade and work your way up from there.

Great Advice. This is where I started. I might have to buy those omni-buses for Daredevil if the book continues to be that awesome. I started reading Dardevil with #111.

Never looked back.

^All of Brubaker's run has been consistently awesome. Highly recommend the Omnibus.
