Learn how to spontaneously combust and leave a green globule on your drumstool.

1] practice your parts so you know them inside and out.
2] be prepared for things to go wrong; kick drum pedal breaks in middle of a song, kick drum head breaks in middle of song and stuff like this.
3] have extra sticks close at hand, if you drop one while doing your famous play and twirl your stick during a song, or if you break a stick.
4] have new or newer heads on your drums [it depends on how long of a set you play and how many times a week/month you play], but you should always check and tune your heads before every gig and replace any head that looks worn out or is in need of retuning constantly.
5] polish those cymbals! bright cymbals sound and look great!
6] polish your drums and rims so they look the best that they can!
7]have a drum key, flash light and tools neded for repair close at hand; a cordless screwdriver and a drum key bit [for the cordless screwdriver] saves much time if you have to change a head on set break and it's faster than using a plain old drum key!
8] bring extra snare drums heads [both top and bottom] and a batter side kick drum head with you.
9] dress the part if your band is a country band don't go up on stage in a tank top and shorts or in heavy metal gear! and don't go to a heavy metal gig looking like you just came off the farm!
10] most important! save the partying for after the show nobody likes a drummer that can't do their job. Your JOB is to drive the song and keep time for band and that idiot guitar player [who's off in his own little world noodeling like a fool thinking that he/she is the next eddie van halen and that all the people are watching the great guitar player!]

Follow these easy 10 steps and you should have no problems at gigs and most important you'll look and act like a PRO!

good luck and have fun!

this goes for playing live and recording but... play for the music; overcomplicating beats and fills for the show can be distracting and can make you sloppy
