View Full Version : Why are there so many yellow belts on characters?

I noticed something today that a lot of super hero characters wear yellow belts? Why!? Here is a list, list more if you know of more.

aquaman
shazam
supergirl

thor
the flash

Because sticking to a martial arts program until you reach black belt isn't something everyone can do.

sure it had something to do with the limited color palettes of the past and the types of paper they worked with, but some designs stayed generally the same, others evolved.

on a comic page, the real leather color, brown, doesn't come off as well for someone wearing spandex (if you don't want them clad in all black), I would also assume.

to hold up their pants/spandex/loincloths.

and, in extreme cases, to be used as a deadly pootie tang style belt-whoopin attack. hey, it would have kicked silver age GL's ass...

The Flash's belt doesn't really seem like it's functional though, seems like more of a design element than anything.

Correct answer! It's the same reason so many characters had blue eyes.
