If you didn't know "Black Dynamite" starring Michael Jai White ( Spawn, The Dark Knight, Blood and Bone ) comes out this weekend.
It's had next to no promotion thanks to the hollywood machine but I know this film is going to be a cult classic.
I know most people are going to be watching "Were The Wild Things Are" and/or "Law Abiding Citizen," ( as you should ) this week but if those are sold out or you just want to see something funny and different check out this movie.
Here is the trailer...

Plot -
When The Man murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, BLACK DYNAMITE is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House. Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) stars as BLACK DYNAMITE, a gun-toting, nunchuck-wielding, ladies man and soul brother. Written and directed by Scott Sanders (Thick as Thieves), BLACK DYNAMITE also stars Tommy Davidson, Nicole Sullivan, Bokeem Woodbine, Arsenio Hall and John Salley. Black Dynamite in theaters on Oct. 16th.

Or it's had pretty good promotion, considering it's an independent film coming from a no-name distributor. Hollywood machine? Guh?

Wanted to, but it's not playing anywhere near me. I've been dying to see this ever since I first heard about it, so I was really let down. Hopefully that'll change in the next few weeks.
I saw the trailer quite a while back, still want to see it. Looks like lots of fun. Doubt it will be in theaters in the netherlands though ...

"Hollywood machine" meaning that the promotion for both "Were The Wild Things Are" and "Law Abiding Citizen" has been very heavy ( which is understandable considering both look like good films and are going to battle for the top spot this weekend ) for both films that an independent like "Black Dynamite" could easily be lost in the shuffle.
By the way I haven't seen a tv commercial for it yet and the only reason I knew it was coming out was because the cast was on a talk show this week; which is why I started the thread.

I'll definitely be getting the DVD, but the closest theatre showing it is in Atlanta. No movie is worth a 6-8 hour drive.

I saw it yesterday, this is the funniest movie I've seen in a while. A parody of Blaxploitation that eaisly trumps I'm gonna get you sucka! IN the first 5 minutes I declared it was better than Shaft and Dolemite combimned. This is the only movie I will see twice this year. And Spawn co-wrote it. It touches on most of the tropes of classic Blaxploitation films from choppy and inconsitstent editing and cliches plots, like the drug cartels are selling to kids. It has some incredible cameos too. I know it's likely a very limited release and I weep for those who will not have it playing near them.
Also Michael Jai white must play Luke Cage.

I always thought that Christopher Judge from Stargate SG1 would be a good Luke Cage.

In what world is Columbia a no-name distributor?

Been waiting for this for MONTHS. We are so amped. Going tonight!
I know my wife loves me when she lets this movie be 'date night' and doesn't insist I go with her to the Sendak thing in return.

I am dying to see this. Back in college, my buddies and I would rent 'classics' of the blaxploitation genre like Avenging Disco Godfather and Petey Wheatstraw, The Devil's Son-In-Law every Friday to watch before going out drinking. I'm hoping that BD is what Undercover Brother should have been. (Although I liked UB, I did feel it should have been better.)
The Onion gave it a B+ this week, and usually they live to slam movies.

It was hilarious. Filthy, but hilarious.

Saw it last night. Terrific fun.
I hope word of mouth helps this movie out (I hadn't heard about it until I saw the trailer before Good Hair the week before.)
