I´ve just stumbled upon the sequel to the Kiddy Grade show a couple minutes ago.
The title is guaranteed to explode your heads: Kiddy Girl-and
"And-... what?" was my initial reaction.
Do you ever get the feeling that studios just grab a couple english words and throw them at the wall to see which ones stick?

Aside from the ones that include puns that only make sense to the Japanese... Isn't that what they've always done? It's not like the anime and manga industry ever really cared what those English words and phrases meant as long as they sounded cool.
In fact, what is "Kiddy Grade" supposed to mean, anyway?

How about sequel series slapping on a letter or word?

Now that I think about it, there's apparently some method to the madness in the case of Kiddy Girl-and, provided you look at it from the perspective of a Japanese talking person.
In Japanese, "Girl-and" is pronounced Garando. And I'm guessing "Grade" becomes something like Gurado. So, they do have a similar sound.

Somewhere out there, a fairy just died.
And it´s all your fault.

At least it's better than Bastard! or Melty Blood.
See those actually make sense but don't actually mean anything in relation to the series. (I get blood, but Melty?)

I always assumed that Bastard! has something to do with the main character who is well.... huge bastard.
But probably THE most nonsensical title award goes to D.Gray-man. What that even supposed to mean? What it has to do with anything?

I always thought it's because the Noah have grey skin....No idea though. I seriously want to know.
Another pretty nonsensical one is Bleach.

Eh, this has been going for decades. It's just the Japanese just think using English is cool to use. Very few of them have a clue how absurd Japanese made English is.

The Japanese think the English language and American stuff is cool in the same way many American nerds think Japanese stuff is cool. Heck, they even seem to think Christianity is kind of badass in the way they write stuff like Hellsing and Evangelion. They don't always seem to understand it, though. Like how they throw around the word "saint" in pretty much any series that requires any sort of vaguely Western mysticism or spirituality (including Saint Seiya, which is more tied to Greek mythology than anything).

Another pretty nonsensical one is Bleach.
It has something to do with Ichigo's hair color. Even though it isn't bleached.
Anyway, while I know the reason behind it, Bubblegum Crisis has always sounded ridiculous. And Plastic Little? Pffft.

looking at it now it can also be about the whole vizard thing. or hollow vs shinigami. I read some where it was because he didn't want to call the book Black or something and this was cooler than calling it white.

I think the creators said that bubblegum crisis was supposed to be a situation that expanded and expanded like a gum bubble, until it exploded and left a sticky mess. Or something.
To be fair, from that perspectives, some western works of fiction have similarly ridiculous names.

Yeah, that's the reason I stated I knew. Doesn't make it to sound any less ridiculous.
