...are they worth reading? DC releasing softcover collected editions, and I was thinking of picking them up? Which of the four books did you like best?

I keep hearing good things about Run!.

For me I wasn't really interested in any of them since they were made a little too late after FC and none of their premises really interested save for maybe the Run! and Dance! ones. I will be curious about the responses to these titles so far though.

I'm really enjoying Ink.

Will be picking up the Run trade for John Stewart.

Having read them all, and with two conclusions thus far....

Run was the best. Good art, good story, good action, and pretty hilarious.

Ink was the next best, with a very personal story of life on the streets, pscyhological fracture, and what it means to be a hero. Art actually hurt this one a bit, but not because of the penciller or inker -- the colorist was kind of a butcher, I'm sad to see. Looking at the book's pencils and then looking at the finished product is like night and day.

Then Dance, which was fun, and had some great ideas, but didn't seem to be going anywhere and had really inconsistent art.

And then Escape, which I thought was almost totally a waste of a good concept (the entire mini could have been done in one issue, should have been done in one issue), and had an art change that was kind of jarring.

I'd actually recommend Run and Ink. I don't think I'd recommend the other two.

My general feeling is Run>Escape>Ink>Dance (and Ink and Dance could flip positions.)

If you like summer blockbusters, you'll like Run.

If you like the Prisoner, you'll like Escape.

I don't have a pithy description for Ink or Dance.

Was totally let down by Escape (the only one I read), The last issue was not worth the relentless weirdness of the first four issues. The payoff just wasn't there and it deflated the whole thing.

Run! is the best of the bunch. Just stupid fun with some really clever ideas using super-cheesey villains. This book's a little rude and crude, but captures perfectly the kind of scumbag the Human Flame is.

Ink is my next favorite. Life in Liberty Hill sounds an awful lot like some of the rough parts of Baltimore. The art is pretty unique for a mainstream DCU book. It would be more suited for a Vertigo book, but works pretty good here. Great dialogue from Mr. Wallace. Looking forward to his Power of SHAZAM book in January.

Escape was diffiicult to read month to month, but very clever. OMAC plays a crucial role, along with some former members of the Suicide Squad and Checkmate. Will read better in trade paperback, I'm sure.

Dance has not been enjoyable for me. This could have been fun, but turned a little too preachy. I agree with the message about fame and the pursuit of it, but the delivery is a little heavy-handed most of the time.

They're all pretty different so I think it depends on your tastes.

However, I don't think there's anyone who didn't enjoy Run so that's probably the best place to start.

Seconded on Run. The last issue is probably the best of the entire 6. Well worth reading through the whole thing.

RUN! is the only book I've been able to flip through and enjoy. And after buying & reading the whole thing, I enjoyed it a lot.

ESCAPE was a visual clunker and an impenetrable mess to read. Didn't bother with the other 2 as I didn't care about any of those characters.
