Like many of you, I like to show my love for comics by having a T-shirt with my favorite characters. Yes, I know it marks me as a total geek/nerd but I don't care.
Lately all the shirts with the cool designs are available only in a "distressed" look. Meaning that the artwork is all peeled and worn out as if it was a 20 year old shirt. What the heck is up with that? ? Does anyone actually prefer it that way instead of with a clear clean image? Is it supposed to be cooler that way. As in "I'm wearing a JLA shirt but I'm not a geek because it's "distressed", so it looks more fashionable.

Which is kind of odd, because whether it's faded or not Green Lantern T-shirts are far from fashionable.
I've noticed that as well... JCPenny here has a pretty good selection of comic-based shirts and they all look like they should have been thrown away years ago. HAHA

Anything that looks 'old' or 'washed' is of fashion these days.

I have a lot of shirts that look like that because it's how they make them these days. Faded and/or cracked.

I have a really cool "distressed" tee of the classic DC heroes of the '80s. Pretty much everyone is on there except Black Canary and Red Tornado.

So do I. One of which happens to be a Green Lantern symbol.

I have a batman shirt and blue lantern shirt that is normal, but my flash shirt the lightening symbol on it is old and worn looking. It was all I could find unfortunatly.

Gotta say I love your "Super" Star of David icon!
I really hate shirts that are made to look old. What's the point? Anyway, I try to find old comic shirts on ebay from the 80s and 90s, like cool all over print Bat shirts, or funky neon Batman Returns and Batman Forever shirts. I've also started making my own comic shirts, because frankly, they don't make the shirts I want. I hand painted with fabric paints the cover of Justice League International #1 on a white T shirt, and have literally been told how awesome it is by both comic fans, and non comic fans. So anyone who says comic shirts are lame or unfashionable must be hanging out with lame or unfashionable people.
So the moral of the story, make your own comic shirts, and get them "stressed" the old fashion way.

Thanks! I've had quite a few people comment on it now. I should start keeping track!

If you enjoy painting that's one thing, but for the rest of us I'd suggest to just spring for the regular t-shirts. 15 bucks isn't the end of the world, and you saved yourself all that time and hassle.

It seems bizarre how popular GL has become where I live. People apparently wear lantern corps shirts (of every color) a lot and almost everyone at my school knows who GL is.

There are actually custom t-shirt shops around that allow you to pretty much make whatever you want. I got online, dug up a cover scan from a Justice League Archive book that had a group shot of the classic team that I loved, had it cropped to only include the characters and the logo, had it printed on a light blue T (it ended up looking kind of distressed due to the quality of the printing, but it looks great), and it's to date one of my favorite things I own. And yes, I wear it to clubs, and yes, I even receive compliments for it.=)

Drunk man in McD's told me I was the coolest he'd seen in a week for my GL shirt.

Surely the fashion these days is not to walk around looking like a geek in a superhero T-shirt?

My problem is that I can't find t-shirts slim enough for my svelte frame. Fatties galore.

Blame the 70's and the goofball cyclical fashion trend concept. Or Canada. You know everything's gone wrong since Canada came along.

Actually, it kind of is. Not everywhere, but it's getting bigger.

For many superhero symbol shirts I feel like the average person wouldn't actually realize it's a geek reference. Obviously they'll recognize the "Superman" and "Batman" logo's on shirts.
But if it's something like "The Flash" lighting bolt I don't think they'd really know what it's actually referencing. And despite the surge in popularity on the comic side of things, highly doubt the average person would know what the "Green Lantern" logo is. Obviously that will change whenever the movie comes out but I still think if you were walking around with a GL symbol shirt most people wouldn't get the reference.

Yeah, it's probably my favorite shirt I own.

Lots of people know it when I wear my shirt.
