I just saw this cult-classic 80's movie and it's interesting to see the similarities between the two.
On the surface, they can't be more different. Streets Of Fire is set in a no-name city where the 50s meet the 80s and is about the quest to rescue a pop/rock singer from a biker gang. Bubblegum Crisis is set in a Blade Runner-esque city where rogue robots from a corrupt organization often run amok, and four girls in powered armor have to stop them.
But music-wise is where the two kind of mesh. One of the girls is a pop singer and is pretty much similar to the Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) character from the movie. Almost all of Bubblegum's songs seem to sample bits of Diane Lane/Ellen Aim's musical numbers in the film. Perhaps most telling of all, the shot where Priss holds her microphone stand? Directly lifted from the film's closing number.
Keep in mind I'm not saying it's a rip-off. After all, my favorite anime series-Gundam-draws a lot from Star Wars. And Star Wars itself draws from a lot of sources (A lot of them Japanese!)
