View Full Version : JLI hardcovers... is that it?

It's been a while since DC put out volume four of the Giffen-DeMatteis-Maguire run on Justice League International. At this point, the Maguire stuff is done. Anyone know if that means the reprints are done, too?
And... any idea about more JLI action figures to follow the recent release of series two?

I guess we may be out of luck, unless we speak with our dollars or start writing. When I asked him this weekend, Bob Wayne says that DC currently has no plans to solicit further JLI hardcovers.

Thanks for the reply.
Well... I hope they press on sometime. I suppose it depends whether they think Maguire was the franchise. Because the writing was great all the way through... there are wonderful stories still to reprint, such as the coming of Despero, Mr. Nebula, the debut of General Glory (and Ernie the Battlin' Boy!) and Breakdowns.
And never mind the contributions of Adam Hughes!
Still one of my favourite comic runs. Maybe THE favourite.

Vol. 4 is a decent endpoint, and truthfully I never figured they'd reprint JLI anyway. So the 4 volumes IS nice to have.
But I'd like to see the run continue, even if there is some decline in quality towards the end. Just great comics with a lot of life to them.

I'd really love to see these continue as well, these hardcovers are my first time reading the JLI and the four I have are absolutely fantastic comics! So I'd definitely like to read the rest of the run.

I own all the issues, but have weighed the possibility of buying them before.

It's unfortunate they're not going further, but (a) Volume 4 ends at as good a point as possible, and (b) we should be glad they managed to go beyond the mere 2 that were original published years ago....
And if I didn't have JL #1 signed by everybody, I'd have grabbed these too and sold off the originals.

i was wondering that, too. I'd really like to see the adam hughes issues collected...

This is honestly what tends to turn me off from collecting series' in TPB/HC anymore. I had briefly thought about selling my JLI backissues and just picking up the hardcovers since it looked like they were going to collect the whole run, but I'm glad I made the right choice and waited (I almost did the same thing when they quit collecting Perez's Wonder Woman beyond the issues he did the artwork for - what a shame). Over the years I've found DC's trade department has a bad habit of leaving readers' hanging when they set out to collect series or creative runs. I seem to remember them taking forever to collect Starman in TPB, and then they ended up leaving a lot of accessory stuff out ("Times Past" issues, one-shots, the Shade mini-series, etc) until they decided to do it right the SECOND time with the Omnibuses. Same thing with the Hitman trades.

Man, that blows.
I'd settle for softcover releases if it got them out.
JLI and JLE were their biggest sellers at one point, it's a shame they aren't collected.
(On a doco on one of the animated movies Mark Waid says that those books made up the bulk of the companies comic revenue at one point).

Its a pity DC hasn't scheduled any more releases. I wonder why. They're less than half way through the run and haven't even gotten to the Adam Hughes-pencilled issues. Surely those would sell well.

I already have all of the single issues, so I have no interest in paying $ for them again, but out of curiosity, what issue # does volume 4 go up to?
