its been a couple of months since the big bad of blackest night was revealed and im just wondering something

considering who it is does that mean its the absolute entity that controls death in the DCU? or is it still a perky pale goth girl thats in charge of the dcu beyond?

I'm guess we'll find out in the coming months.

Personally I don't think Nekron could control death, otherwise why would he need to go to all this trouble? If he could just say "Every die!" and it happened, there would be no need for black lanterns or charging rings. So there must be more to it than that.

you have a point there, if he was death he could just end it with a snap of his fingers.

I just hope this event does finally answer that question since im pretty sure that whole three aspects of death bull doesnt count.

As far as I understand it he is the ruler of one of the realms of the afterlife. Infact I think its the one that souls go to first before being shipped off to heaven, hell, purgatory or whatever. I may have got that wrong but I can't be bothered to wiki it :P

Maybe he draws some kind of power from dead souls but something has been allowing souls to return from his realm and he wants to set things straight.

I'm sure it will be more complex than that, I'm tired, my cognitive abilities are slowing down.

We'll have to wait and see how it plays out -- Captain Atom's series dealt with both Gaiman's Death and Nekron (along with the Black Racer) and explained that all three represented some FACET of Death in the DCU -- Gaiman's Death was "Death as a release, death as a gift, death as compassion", Nekron was "Death as the eternal enemy of Mankind" and the Black Racer was "Death as an inevitability". Gaiman was apparently not at all happy with that, so I don't think that's going to stick.

One could adopt Marvel's bit, in which there is Mistress Death (who Thanos loves) and then Hela, Mephisto, Satannus, Marduk, Walker etc all rule various hell dimensions but basically report to her. DC's Hell worked under that system, with Lucifer at the top and a host of others working below him.

In my head, Gaiman's Death is the big concept of death. Nekron, The Black Racer, etc are all aspects of her. They are all the same. She encompasses and contains them all. Personally I prefer this take...it feels more true to me. Morpheus made it clear that there were many facets to the 'jewel' of "Dream", and that Daniel was one just as Morpheus was one...I see no reason that it shouldn't be thus for Death.
