Hello, everyone. I had a problem, and thought someone on these boards might have the answer. You see, I've recently been trying to get back into comic books. Not really sure of which characters to read I decided to stick with those I liked a lot when I was younger. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc. I picked up a copy of Year One and The Dark Knight Returns, and really liked them both. I think I'd like to start picking up a monthly Batman title, but, due to budgetary constraints (I'm a poor college student), I'll most likely be forced to just pick one. I just wanted to know if you guys would recommend Batman or Batman and Robin. Thanks for your time!

Wow. Some speedy responses. So, it looks like I should pick up Batman and Robin then? Sounds fine to me. Thanks for your help.

Batman and Robin all the way, if you're looking solely at Bat-books. Detective Comics is also good, and the new Azrael series looks promising.

Non-Batman books I recommend: Astonishing X-Men, Bad Dog, Doktor Sleepless, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Mighty Avengers, Powers, RASL, Resurrection, Secret Warriors, Spider-Woman, Sweet Tooth, The Unwritten, The Walking Dead.

Batman and Robin is one of the best things coming out of DC right now.

Well I picked up the first three issues of Batman and Robin today. Wow, you guys weren't kidding! Where to start? I like the dynamic of Grayson and Damien, and I'm a big fan of the other characters introduced and used. It's a very fun read too, and that's always my biggest worry when reading something new. My only regret, in fact, is that my comic book store is currently sold out of issues numbers 4 and 5 so I'll have to wait for them to be restocked. Thanks for the suggestion, guys!

One more question. Is The Brave and the Bold any good? I like Straczynski, and I like the concept, but I thought I'd ask for any of your opinions first. Thanks.

^ flicked though it, wasn't anything special, though I've never been too excited about Straczynski anyway so who knows

Best titles after Batman & Robin are Streets of Gotham and Red Robin. Streets has a Dick and Damian and alot of the classic villains. it's a slow burner though so don't expect to be dazzled right away

The Mighty.

And if you like The Mighty, you should check out Irredeemable, which I think is better than The Mighty. Bother are great though, but similar.

In terms of graphic novels, what is there from the 90's and early 2000's that is similar to Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke, Year One etc. For instance Gotham Central and the The Joker graphic novel which had more of a mature approach. I've already read most of Grant Morrisons collections, some of Paul Dinis and get Batman & Robin and Detective Comics (Batwoman) on order. This is the kind of comics I'd like to catch up on. I've also read Long Halloween, Ego, All Star Batman, The Return of Jason Todd, War Games.

Hmm, I picked up the second issue of "The Sinestro War" arc a while ago, and it really made me want to start reading Green Lantern. Not sure why I haven't started yet...
