Funny, that people know him better as Mario than from his wrestling career.
Anyway, R.I.P.

In his honor, I'm doing the Mario right now.

Not surprising. For a lot of people my age (32) and younger, his fame with MTV and Cyndi Lauper and Rock N' Wrestling came at the very tail end of his WWF career. He left the WWF in 1986, not long after all this stuff hit the mainstream, so either most modern wrestling fans caught the last remnants of his wrestling antics, or missed it completely.
My best friend is a few years younger than me, and knows him pretty much 100% because of Super Mario.

He was also Managed by Cindy Lauper for a short while, and is in the music videos "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "She-Bop" and "Goonies r Good Enough" and I think "Time After Time".

some ole memories of the Captain comes to mind with this announcement...
and after he left the WWF years ago, didn't he hook up with some fly-by-night wrestling organization?... seems I remember some old promotion reruns from years past that were shown recently on one of the satellite channels...

I'm sorry to say that I don't remember Capt. Lou Albano from his WWF days. As has been mentioned already, I really just recognize him from Super Mario Bros., and (being the 90s Nickelodeon kid that i am) from a guest-starring role on "Hey Dude." Definitely a memorable character. RIP Capt. Lou.

He'll always be my hero for managing to slip the f-word into the Super Mario Bros Super Show.
