Ok, now I understand his notions on the Speed Force a bit better although I don't totally agree with them. Still, it's nice to have a writer care enough about the fans to make such an effort. Also, I get the feeling that the Wally West costume will be similar to the one with the white eyepatches...familiar!

Dear DC:

Please acquire the rights to publish a Cap'n Crunch comic, so Geoff Johns can write him.

Regards,
Sean Walsh

I'm curious to see what Johns has planned for Black Manta. Given his comments, I'm wonder if we're getting a Mera book (rather than an Aquaman book) coming out of Blackest Night.

And all the other cereal characters too so Geoff can write his Cereal Lanterns comic.

I for one want Red Lantern Cap'n Crunch versus John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

Wow... now that's a dude who thinks a lot in his lifetime.

Being a "fan-fiction" writer, as some call him, shouldn't be an insult if you have bundles and bundles of ideas and the determination to get them to work in the best way possible. As a person, I got no problems with that, for anyone who does fan-fiction (slash-fiction is another thing altogether...)

I don't know, but usually interviews are interviews... but this inspired me in some ways.

Yeah, maybe those who are cynical can bash me on this but... I don't know... I'm having that fuzzy, inspired feeling after reading this interview...

Must have been that Cap'n Crunch idea...

I would love an Aquawoman comic by Johns with art by Reis.

I still didn't understand Geoff's answer on Dove and I'm hoping that he'll explain it more within the Blackest Night event. :frown:

His answer to the science question totally made my day!

His further explanation of the Speed Force as he views it makes the idea even more forced, contrived and unnecessary.

So Barry created, continues to fuel, and now his will/sense of justice dictates the choosing of Speeders beyond the boundaries of time, space, and the universe?

That's "fan-fiction" writing in the negative way, in my opinion.

Black Manta is an utterly stupid villain. "I'm black and I'm mad." That's pretty much it. They should have let that wonderful death that Aquaman gave him stand.

I'm fuzzy on Black Manta's history, so pardon the questions:

1) Was he always a black guy? I seem to recall that seemed like a more recent revelation...

2) When did he die at Aquaman's hands? (Really ashamed I don't know this one - used to have a "dead characters list" page, so I *should* know this...)

I'm not sure I understand his explanation of the Speed Force but its good to hear Wally's costume won't change much.

"I have a 50-issue Iron Man run sitting in this notebook."

I want him to stay with DC but I'm really curious about this.

For answering my question and for a great series so far with Blackest Night.

Here's hoping that you will write more stories with Mera after Blackest Night and to wondering how you can be writing Black Manta and not include Aquaman in that?!?

I could def go for this too!

1) He's been black for as long as I can remember which is the 70's.

2) The final issue of his last series just before the Infinite Crisis. After one attack too many he just cooly decides he's had enough of Black Manta causing nothing but pain and death in the world and summons the predators of the sea to eat him alive. It's an absolutely great scene and they should have let that be the end of such a dumb character who's nonetheless caused so much damage (of course they brought him back).

Black Manta can NEVER die. He's iconic.

Black Manta was revealed to be black in Adventure Comics 452 (so 1977), also famous for the death of Aquababy and the "You were expecting, perhaps, Peter Benchley" line.

Black Manta was abducted and raped repeatedly on a foreign fishing boat as a child. He saw Aquaman and expected him to save him, but Aquaman didn't notice. So Black Manta hates the sea, and really hates Aquaman. According to the origin story those sailors held onto him for years, so he's really, really damaged.

Just out of context, that sounds really, really stupid. Soldiers raped him... so he hates the sea?!?!? Fears the sea, has a negative emotional reaction to it, that I get, but hates the sea??? Shouldn't he hate... sailors???

Ah, but if there was no sea then there'd be no sailors! Tackling the cause not the symptom!
