I couldn't find a thread on this so I thought I'd start one here.

I have to admit that the show has felt pretty directionless since season 4 but there's no getting past the fact that it still makes me laugh like very few other shows. Case in point: this week's wedding episode.

Not only did I love that they put an episode that could have been a season or series finale in the middle of the season, it had a great mix of cringe worthy moments, some genuinely sweet parts and enough humour to have me laughing out loud all the way through from beginning to end.

Kevin Malone: "I managed to get 6 different numbers. One more and I would have had an actual phone number!"

Bwahahahahahaha!

Anyone still watching this?

Watch it every week. I like the fact that Michael screwed Pam's mom, because I see plenty of "Doing Pam's mom is basically doing Pam" jokes coming from Michael.

That being said, I have two observations. Observation One is that Dwight pulls in a$$ like it is going out of style. Observation Two is that I was 100% for sure Pam was gonna invite Holly to the wedding, and that was gonna be the shock of the wedding....for Michael at least.

Actually, I've noticed that Dwight has become cooler and cooler over the years. He was always funny but that weird self assurance that he possesses has actually made him into a surprisingly cool character.

Dancing Andy and his ripped scrotum. That alone made it worth the watch. That and Kevins tissue box shows. They definetly brought their A game for this last episode.

Best TV wedding in a long time.

the dancing down the aisle could have been bad cheese but mixed in with scenes showing Jim and Pam on the ferry, it came out great.

Loved seeing Dwight stuck at the kiddie table.

Loved Oscar going bat$#!^ when someone asks if he's dating Kevin.

Loved all the crap Andy had to go through, from getting to play chauffer to Erin and Kelly to his problems with his scrotum. (Loved the "did I dream about you crying?" bit)

one wonders what will happen when Jim and Pam return from their honeymoon

This is one of the shows I religiously watch every week. I am a huge huge fan. I still think season 2 is perfection. The series has had moments of brilliance since then, but not consistantly strong like it was at the beginning. However, I have liked what they have been doing ever since the "Michael Scott Paper Company" towards the end of last season.

The wedding was sweet and funny. The opener with everyone puking, and the look Pam gave to Dwight was classic Office fare. I can't wait to see how they do/don't figure the baby into the mix. Babies are usually bad news to a series, but I'm hoping they can find a way to surprise me.

Dwight wearing the 3 wolf moon shirt was pure win.

Good season so far. I wonder how long Jim will last as co-manager? I like how fallible they make him in that position-- tons of bad ideas.

I laughed hard when Dwight pulled Michael away from the woman to show him twins-- and they were just these two fat guys!

I absolutely loved that. Easily my favorite part of the episode. I love Oscar in general.

I also agree with some of the others that Dwight has gradually become a more confident and even bordering on smooth character, at least at times.

Can't wait to see what comes of Michael and Pam's mom.

Still one of my favorite TV shows. I loved the wedding. Lots of hilarious and sweet moments balanced through the episode.

I grew up in the Scranton area, and I have to say that Dwight's proclamation that "she's a dental hygenist from Carbondale, and she makes love like one" is the funniest thing I've heard on TV in a long, long time.

I'm glad they didn't go sappy for the wedding. It would have really been against the spirit of the show.

I had never seen the youtube video that the wedding dance was inspired by, but it's pretty damn funny. Especally considering it's a Chris Brown song.

Remember back in season 1 (or was it 2?) when Dwight asked a human resources guy what a clitoris was? He's come a long way since then.

Yeah, Dwight's been handling himself pretty well (all things considered) while Jim's been fumbling, even outside of the workplace. I didn't expect Jim to slip up about the pregnancy (well, it had to be revealed SOME way), but the fact that Jim did it was pretty consistent with how many mistakes he's been making lately. I'm glad the writers have been consistent with the changes they've brought to Dwight and Jim.

It seems that everyone's had a favorite guffaw moment. Mine was when Jim and Pam sneak out of the church, all the while Meredith's smoking her gigantic cigar referenced earlier in the hour. Only Meredith :)

Is Erin basically the "straight woman" of the show? It seems everyone will either mess up or be the butt of a joke, but she'll provide some sort of balance.

Additionally, it was logical but still great to see Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration, even if he didn't have any lines. He's still a hoot.

No Daryl? He wasn't particularly close to Jim and Pam (though still friendly), but perhaps his injury from a few weeks back prevented him from coming.

One last line:

Isabel: I'm not sitting, I'm standing. I'm a bridesmaid.

Michael: Really? I would love to be a... bridesmaid...

I liked the Halloween cold open- Darryl's delivery made it all work.

Will we never hear about Michael and Pam's mom again? It was weird that there was no real continuity from a pretty big blow up on Pam's part last week. They seemed to soften her up again, but having her actually try and do something nice to help Andy get Erin.

.

Darryl is my favorite character on the show. He's like the balance to the wacky characters that work in the office, yet still finds the time to mess with Michael. One of my favorite episodes is when Darryl and Michael drive to New York so Michael can argue for a raise.

It's been ok, but I have a feeling the show has jumped the shark, and that Jim & Pam's wedding AND Jim's promotion was the shark.

Jim acting more and more like Michael really ruins the character. Pam freaking out the way she did last week was quite terrible to see coming from her.

I know that seems bad, since it's damning their characters' progression......but it doesn't work.

You're not as scary as, uh, 'Bookface' over there.

Oh, man, that entire segment alone made the episode great. It's so humorous that they decided to showcase a lousy attempt at a haunted house, mainly with Darryl being unaware of all the costumes the other workers were wearing.

I do believe that the Jim & Pam wedding and Jim's promotion may have been Jump the Shark material, but I'm still not convinced.

Jump the shark? No way. the show is still great.

And keep in mind Pam is more emotional than normal. If she wasn't pregnant I doubt her freakout would have been as extreme.

Her parents have just recently split and the new man in her mom's life is Michael. I think this season has just added more dimension to Jim and Pam's character.I think its the best sit com to date.

It's been a while since I worked a 'real job', but from what I can remember, if you desperately want to get out but end up staying, even being promoted, you eventually end up getting stupider, so Jim's character right now is real to me.

If you're not learning something new every day, you're going backwards, right?

This is the whole premise of Michael, and indeed managers the world over. You wonder 'how did they get there?' but really, they used to be great at their job, and over time, with less daily challenges, started to slip, and now schedule 'free time' for the entire morning. ;)

I still laugh more at the Office than any other show. 30 Rock is up there, though.

Using the traditional, actual use of the term, I think it was more last season. It's still funny, but the humor is now more based on us watching characters we know doing wacky things, as opposed to the original humor of discomfort. They still do that from time to time, but there was nothing really cringe-worthy about Michael falling into the koi pond. It's still funny, but I find it more generically funny now.

Well, I for one am loving these season. I thought the Mafia episode was kind of weak but have really enjoyed the rest. I also think that Jim's promotion is a nice change in the dynamic of the Office but I don't think he's that much like Michael now. He's always been a bit goofy and that just comes out more when he is in the management position.

Man, last night was uncomfortable. I actually couldn't bear to watch Michael tell those kids he wasn't going to pay for their college!

I laughed a lot at Stanley's little laughing fit over what Michael has done. Dwight's impressions of his co-workers was pretty awesome too.

Looking at Dwight's shenanigans toward him of late, do you think they may be angling toward having Jim fire Dwight? I mean, last night's were incredibly blatant.

Romero
12-04-2009, 10:10 AM
Maybe. Jim used to be able to deflect most of what Dwight threw at him, and even get over on Dwight himself.

I was amazed that Jim could let happen what happened last night. He DIDN'T know who the EofM was BEFORE the meeting? They just haven't given Jim many wins as manager at all.

He could be building up a huge bomb to drop on Dwight, I dunno.

He appears to still have David Wallace wrapped around his finger though.

I'm still not convinced David Wallace WASN'T Jim pulling a "Dwight" from earlier in the show. It did sound like the normal actor....but it also sounded like John Krasinski doing an impression.

Now, with Ryan involved with Dwight, I think we are going to have Jim firing both before the end of the season....and then quitting himself.

Funny episode. The Xmas ones usually are.

I might actually miss David Wallace if he gets canned. I wonder if the new owners will wonder why the hell Scranton needs TWO managers and what will happen then?

Yeah, David Wallace is a fun "corporate foil," but I can see new management reacting the way you suspect, which I presume will be the ultimate payoff to the 2 managers situation.

I'm thinking that Andy and Erin need to start moving into the spotlight. The writers are trying to build a relationship between them, but they got like, 3 minutes of screen time on last night's episode. And they're such a sweet couple, I always want more.

Nope, sealed the deal last night for me with new buyers. We know one manager will be gone, and Michael has already been gone.....Jim's getting fired. LOCK IT UP. 100% Confident it will happen.

Why couldn't they keep him on the show? Scranton isn't that big. He could work for Bob Vance. His wife still works at DM. Hell, Michael would try everything to get hime back to work.

This is my son's fave show and i enjoy watching it with him.

Jim's transformation to tight ass is readily explained by him becoming a boss and his impending fatherhood.

Kevin and all the secondary characters frequently make the show watchable. We frequently trade Creed quotes back and forth.

I'd send Michael back to sales where he belongs and could probably even make more money and leave Jim as boss. Thats just from a management viewpoint. Not what would be funniest. I thought Michael's gift to Dwight was great. The man really does posses some bizarre dysfunctional kind of genius.
