View Full Version : The next wave of Batman artists?
I'm loving JHW3, Quitely, Nyguen (sp?) Irving, Stewart, Daniels, etc...
But eventually they will move on, so who would you like to see take on the Bat-books next?
My choices: Lee Bermejo, Ivan Reis, Eduardo Risso (the best comic artist in the world)

Have you seen his recent work on X-Men? Or his older work on Generation X? It's much more streamlined and enjoyable than some of his other works.

I think Chris Bachalo is the only artist who would make me avoid reading a comic.
His art actively ruins my enjoyment, it's too cluttered and hard to follow.
But I'm sure he's a nice enough guy.

Idem dito.
Mind you, there is one thing he did. A horror mini written by Paul Jenkins, for Dark Horse. "Revelations", I think it was called.
But it was very restrained, and the script didn't have any real fight scenes.
In his regular work, I regulary find myself puzzling over what limb belongs to which character.

lol Alright.
I'll retract that statement.
Instead, we should get Olivier Coipel to do some work on Batman and Robin.

Can you imagine Paul Pope paired with Grant Morrison on Batman and Robin? That would be awesome. Have Paul Pope and Grant Morrison ever worked together before? To my knowledge they haven't.

Boo at Cassaday and Coipel, but yay at Pope.
And while I love me some Bachalo, he's a really poor fit for Batman.
Considering how much I love Lark's work on Gotham Central, I'd probably put Robert DeLa Torre on an arc and see how he does. I believe Andy Clarke is already doing some stuff on Batman:Confidential with Milligan. I'd like to see Jefte Palo do a story, maybe with a little slice of supernatural goings-on in Gotham.
Darwyn Cooke, Jordi Bernett, more Bolland, more Risso, Sook, Matt Kindt, Ron Garney, Sean Murphy, RM Guerra, David Lapham, Jason Pearson... eh, and a bunch of other guys.

Sean gordon Murphy would be great too.
Paul Pope or Darwyn Cooke
I'm just itching for some "comic"-y artwork, and not "realistic" and gritty stuff like Jim Lee & TOny Daniel

I echo the Paul Pope sentiment. He's just an amazingly detailed artist. I've got to remind myself to buy Batman Year 100 when I have the extra cash.

By the way, has Sean Phillips (Sleeper, Criminal, Marvel Zombies) done any Bat-work?

He did a few fill-in issues: Batman #603, Catwoman #32, and Batgirl #55. I would love to see Phillips on a major Batman story.

Hmm. I think I have all of those.
Him and Brubaker really need to team up on a bigger Batman project when they're done at Marvel.

Revelations was by Paul Jenkins and Humberto Ramos, not Chris Bachalo.

Ramos would make for an awesome Batman artist. The late, great Carlos Meglia, a friend and mentor to Ramos, would've as well.
