How was this series?

I think I bought one issue. Nice Frank Miller covers before he decided he hated Superman:

Cool cover. Miller's got some issues. He says he hates Superman but I've seen old quotes where he has praised the character. There is also that drawing he did of Superman flying in space with a little boy. When Miller got into middle age he probably started having flashbacks of a Superman T-shirt wearing schoolyard bully that used to pick on him:biggrin: Hence the current Superman hatred.

So what was the story content of this series?

The story is what Superman did during his college years, which weren't explored to the same degree as his years as Superboy or his post college life as Superman.

Excellent series, it explored the period between Smallville and Metropolis for Clark.

Shed some light into his college experience and why he made the transition from Superboy to Superman.

Wow. It's surprising they never collected this in trade format.

Well, it was around the time that the standard trade format began appearing and not long after MOS came out. So the series was never collected as a result. Look at how long it's taken for John Byrne's version of "World Of Krypton" to come out. That was two years after this and it finally came out this year, I think it was. There's still a lot that hasn't come out.

What's strange is the same story ran in New Adventures of Superboy as a back up and some issues as the main story near the end.
Before MOS, but not by much.

I will never forget Clark's college pal, the alcoholic hippie known as Ducky Ginsberg.

On a lighter note, I like the aforementioned covers so much I think I will put up the link to the other three Miller pieces. Issue number 4 has my second-favorite "Superman and eagle" cover.

If you would like a sampling, Vigilante Man, Mile High has scans of three pages from Issue number 2.

And DarkMark offers a synopsis of each issue of the mini-series at

http://darkmark6.tripod.com/supermanind1.htm (http://darkmark6.tripod.com/supermanind1.htm)

They comprise the fifth through the eighth entries on that page. But be warned of specific spoilers there if you wish to track the issues down and read the story in its entirety, yourself.
