Anybody ever watch this 1976 British series?
For those who've watched ROME, it's basically starts historically a decade or two later (presumabely a third Rome series would've covered the same history). Much of the first half revolves around Augustus's(Brian Blessed) wife Livia (Sian Phillips), who manipulates events to get her son Tiberius (George Baker) on the throne...and the second half has the increasingly more decadent reigns of Tiberius and Caligula (John Hurt), only for the unexpected heir Claudius (Derek Jacobi)-who is disabled with stutters and tremors-to ascend to the throne and restore some stability-but even he has to deal with some really bad personal betrayals and backstabbing by his own wives.
Those used to the spectacle of ROME might find the series a little limited-it's low budget, shot entirely inside on sets and on video and is half the length. But dramatically and acting-wise I feel it's the better series. It's also more historically accurate IMO.
