What's really the point of this series? It seems like they just took the characters and made a generic manga out of it. Granted, I know it's based on the 'alternate universe' seen in the final episodes, but I think that was mainly a veiled metacommentary by Anno on anime.

Regardless, I'm having lots of fun reading it. That's point enough for me.

Well, NGE was a popular, groundbreaking anime. It makes sense it would produce a spin-off or two.

Really, it's probably less a question of "Why?" and more a question of "Why not?"
