So far, I've read the new Batman and Robin along with Red Robin. I got a few other new comics of Batman like Gotham City and Sirens. I see that Batman/Robin tied into Red Robin at the beginning. Was wondering which comics I should go buy to get the back history of it, along with what issues Batman actually died in. Thanks!

Batman And Son
The Black Glove
Batman RIP
Final Crisis
Battle For The Cowl (When a TPB eventually comes out)

Pick up those trades, in that order.

Next, some people will come in here and tell you that you don't need to read all of those, but if you want a complete story, and you want to see exactly what happened for yourself, read those.

I suggest start at Face to Face.

I dunno. At least there's a post-Infinite Crisis jumping point *tongue*

Then those listed above.

Not to mention, Face the Face isn't bad either, and it leads right into Batman And Son.

Batman "died" in Final Crisis, but it was only a small part of a much larger story. Not really sure it's worth reading the whole thing, unless you're really determined.

The 3-issue mini series "Battle for the Cowl" (due out in trade on Nov. 18) tells the story of how Dick Grayson chose to assume the Batman identity. It also gives a lot of background on what's going on with a lot of the Gotham villains in books like Streets of Gotham and Batman. Most of the people who read it liked it a lot, but there is a very vocal minority who hated it. These people will tell you that reading it is unnecessary and try to steer you away from it.

Actually, as much as I enjoy Grant's work, I do not think it's great for beginners.I suggest picking these up:

Batman:Year One- Probably the most influential Batman story today.

Batman:The Long Halloween & Dark Victory. Follow-ups to Year One and good if not great stories.

You can also try: The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told, Tales of the Demon, and Broken City.

Well, he's asking for the stories that led up to where we are now. Batman: Year One, Long Halloween, and Dark Victory are a bit of a stretch, if not a bit too literal.

Batman & Son, The Black Glove, Batman RIP, and Final Crisis are the entire story of the eventual "death" of Batman.

And Jim summed up what Battle For The Cowl is very nicely.

PS: As hard as Batman RIP and Final Crisis may be to grasp for some people, Batman & Son and The Black Glove are totally accessible to new readers, IMO.

It isn't that they are hard to grasp for most people. Most poeple think that they are just plain bad...

No I agree. I didn't understand Batman R.I.P.

Why must we have all these psychological issue thingies when we can just have people punching each other.

Thanks. Would it be worth actually looking for these comics or getting the paper backs of these? And about how much would these all cost anyways? Just trying to get a picture before I make my run to the comic store on Wednesday.

How are they bad in any way? Granted, Batman and Son isn't as good as The Black Glove but in no way are they bad stories.

Batman And Son: $14.99
The Black Glove: $17.99
Batman RIP (Hardcover): $24.99
Final Crisis (Hardcover): $29.99
Battle For The Cowl (Hardcover): $19.99

It would probably be cheaper to wait for the softcovers, but that may be a very long wait. You could try to find the issues, and they probably aren't too expensive, but I think finding them would be the hard part.

all added together would be a pretty penny. Hopefully the comic book guys haven't jacked up the cover prices, but they probably have haha. I'll check tomorrow and see and check ebay also. I had another question. This Red Robin story is getting REALLY interesting. What comics has this guy been in before, as I know he was a Robin before, and what's the story behind being the RED Robin?

Tim Drake has become Red Robin because he is no longer Robin, he had the costume, and wanted to be able to cross lines and do things he might not have done as Robin. The cowl and identity of Red Robin were worn by Jason Todd and Ulysses Armstrong, both totally crazy psychos, and Tim felt it was a suitable moniker, as it was sullied by their past association. Tim was the star of Robin for 183 issues, as well as 56 issues of Young Justice, and following that a star of Teen Titans for over 5 years, until earlier this year. For the past 19 (almost 20) years Tim was Robin until this summer, and as a result, has appeared frequently in the Batman related titles, most frequently Batman and Detective Comics, from time to time, working alongside Batman.

Tim has been in featured in most of the titles we've mentioned, like all of Morrison's work and Face the Face. Teen Titans had some good characterizations of him, well at least at the beginning.

Red Robin was an older Dick Grayson from Kingdom Come, which takes place in the "future".

Later on Jason Todd found the suit while Multi-verse hopping in Countdown to Final Crisis.

At some point, a villain named The General found it, and started wearing it. Tim Drake defeated him and took the costume away.

Then Tim started wearing it after Dick made Damian the new Robin.

Tim Drake is an awesome character too, and I enjoyed most of the entire run of Robin. Also, Face the Face, Identity Crisis, and A Lonely Place of Dying have some good Robin moments.

Like others have said, Tim Drake has been Robin for almost 20 years. That's a lot of reading.

Is Tim in Kingdom Come?

Is Tim in Kingdom Come?

No, and the Red Robin in the story doesn't interact with Tim or the main DCU at all in any subsequent stories. One needn't read Countdown OR Kingdom Come to get why Tim was wearing the Red Robin costume at all, just the last arc of the Robin ongoing and Red Robin.

So I should pick up the last few issues of the Robin comic?

That would be great, but like We've said Face the Face and The Black Glove have great characterizations of Tim and Batman, so why not kill two birds with one stone?
