I recently read Frank Miller's near-universally hated Batman and Robin The Boy Wonder vol. 1. Without getting into an argument about whether or not it really is as bad as people say it is, I'll just say that I understand where all the hatred comes from, although I also found quite a few elements interesting. I disliked the portrayal of Batman as a violent, reckless psychopath, but I thought the story of how Dick Grayson became Robin was very moving. There's a real vulnerability to his character (especially when you keep in mind how young he is), but at the same time you can see how strong and skilled his is, so you see hints of the hero he will become.

I've read a few other Batman comics, but I realized after reading this that I've never read any other version of Batman's first meeting with Dick Grayson or the beginning of their partnership.

So my question is, where can I find these other versions of the story?

I suppose Robin: Year One would be an obvious place to start. Anything else?

And more generally, what are your favourite story arcs in which Robin features prominently? (Most of the Batman stories I read featured Batman working alone.)

I'm mostly interested in Dick Grayson, but I would also be willing to check out a few stories with Tim Drake as Robin.

Thanks.

Definitely check out Robin: Year One for this. It is not only the early Grayson as it stands in current continuity, but it also a fun read.

"Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet" is another great early Dick story.

I'm hesitant to recommend Dark Victory if you haven't read The Long Halloween. While it does feature some early Dick Grayson background, it is a sequel to the previous story first and foremost and probably wouldn't read well without the previous book.

Thanks.

Actually, I have read The Long Halloween and it was already my intention to pick up the sequel, Dark Victory, even though I didn't know that Dick Grayson was in it.

That just makes it all the more enticing now. I look forward to it.

Not to long ago I went on a mad hunt threw back issues looking for Batman and robin stories what I discovered was that....

Any Dick Grayson as Robin stories at all stories from the Modern era of Batman are hard to find...

Threre was Batman Chronicles: The Gaunlet, Robin Year One, Batman: Full Circle, LOTD Issues 149-153 Grimm, Batman:Fourtunate Son, Superman/Batman Annual 2, Batgirl Year One, Nightwing Year One... And some parts of Teen Titans: Year One show their realtionship...

I'm sure their may be the odd one and done issue with a Robin Flash back... But these are practically the only stories that really emphasize on their relationship while Dick was Robin...

The Batman/Robin team was really big in the nineties... Tim was new and freash and had huge role in the Batman where he often co-starred with Batman...

Look for Chuck Dixon's Run on Detective during the 90's, Tim play huge role in Bat comics during this time... Alot of short 2-3 issue arcs where Bats/Robin go against classic villains...

Issues 644-656... Have the Duo Work very closely together... Then Knight fall happens... Followed by Prodigal Son (which is Batman/Robin heavy but, Bats is Grayson here)... Immediately afterward the duo reunite for issues 682-694.... Then Contagion happens soon followed by Legacy...(these crossovers are more about the the Bat Family than the Dynamic Duo)... Then issues 705 - 715 ethem working together...
If you count it Batman/ Predator III

I definitely have to give a special shout to Robin 106 awsome one and done... featuring the Bruce/Tim dynamic in rare form....
