View Full Version : Batman Annual #27 Preview & Discussion
Online at The Source (http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2009/09/30/head-into-azrael-1-with-batman-annual-27/) now.
Can't say it's a very impressive preview, but i like that Damian refers to 'Robin & Batman' as he did in Batman And Robin. I'll buy this if it's a slow week.

I think it looks kind of interesting. Haven't seen much of Bullock lately and that's a nice shot of Batman standing in the shadows. Plus I usually like Nicieza's work.
But, as I said in another thread, I have a hard time justifying $5 for this, another $5 for part 2 in the Detective Annual and then another $3 for the first issue of Azrael. I don't have it on my pull list but, who knows, if it looks good, I may break down and get it.

I'm not a big fan of J. Calafiore's style and I don't really have the budget to be buying yet another prelude to the Azrael title that I won't be buying so I'll be passing on this.

Read the preview.
Pass.

I've never been fond of Califiore's work. To me, it has Phil Hester's minimalism, but with a scratchier quality I find rather distracting. The preview's awfully light on the issue's featured character, isn't it?

I preordered it and the other one a couple months ago without realizing they were Azrael centric. I've since bought and read the Azrael mini, so now I'm genuinely excited about this, and the ongoing is already on my pull list.

Well, I thought it was pretty good. DamiAn made me laugh more than once, and I am actually starting to like Azrael.

I bought it cause Robin was on the cover. What comic does this tie into? The latest Batman title right?

Detective Annual next week ,and Azrael #1 the following week. The Bat-Family books at this moment are not in direct correlation to each other. They all just happen to take place at the same time, but none of them chronologically follow the other, except for a few plot points here and there, unlike the Supes-Family books at the moment. What Batman title are you referring to?

I know in Marvel, they jump through all the comics everywhere. It gets confusing. Was wondering if DC was the same. I doubt it, but like if it was jumping from Batman to Batman and Robin to other Batman titles.

^ The only two titles that even slightly intersect are Paul Dinis Streets of Gotham and Gotham City Sirens. It's nowhere near to the point that you need to read both of them, but they do reference each other.
Streets of Gotham is the best Batman Reborn title after B&R. I say this because Detective isn't really in synch with anything else (even though it has the Reborn banner) and Streets just happens to feature a larger, more familiar Gotham City cast than Red Robin, which is also pretty good.

Not yet - but Batwoman's going to appear in Batman & Robin soon.

of course, i forgot about that
but whether that means Detective will have anything to do with B&R remains to be seen. doubtful considering it was written over two years ago
did you read the annual? or still no love for Azrael

I'm confused. Will Batwoman star in Detective Comics Annual? It's her book right now, right? I mean she was conspicuously absent in Batman Annual considering it ties into Detective Annual

She's not in the Annual story, but the Question is.

I just read it a couple of hours ago... it's okay. I thought that Damian was pretty well written in this, which seems to be quite rare outside of B&R right now. And Azrael's hardly in it! But i think i enjoyed it enough to buy part 2 at least, although my favourite part was the Freddie Williams bunker / Batmobile pages at the end. That Nguyen 'Lil' Gotham' thing was poor though.

Yeah I'm really into Red Robin. I was iffy on picking it up, cause everywhere I went it was high priced for the first issue. Got a good deal at the Long Beach Comic Con so I decided to get it. I liked how it tied in the B&R series too. I also got Streets and Sirens, just haven't read it yet. Going to move Streets to the front now. Glad I don't have to pick up Detective now, though. Batman just has way too many titles to keep up with everything lol.

Haven't read it yet, but I did break down and buy it, in spite of the price. I thought it looked pretty good on the stands.
