Silly question, but why is Iceman always presented as the young teen in other media?

Other than the 90s X-men, Iceman in cartoon and movies is depicted as a teen hero and NOT one around the same age as Cyclops et al.

Not really silly, I guess it is because his immaturity (emotional and otherwise) is a major part of his character.

Except for the 90's cartoon? I actually just watched the episode with X-Factor the other day, and while they made him look roughly the same age, he came across as way more of a whiny douche than I've ever seen him portrayed in the books.

My understanding is that Iceman was the youngest X-Man until Colossus and Nightcrawler showed up.

Well, he is younger than Cyclops and was the youngest mutant in the original team. At least in Evolution all of them were teenagers, although he didn't get as much development as the main team (stupid Spike). Wolverine and the X-men has him, but almost half of the episodes there are entirely devoted to Wolverine which leaves little room for anyone else.

Edit: Almost forgot about Amazing Friends. Don't remember if he was younger than Cyclops there, but he wasn't any younger than the other two main characters.

His age tends to fluxuate in different intervals of his exposure. It all depends on the format and timeline of the show.

Looking throughout his history in the media, he's generally portrayed as a late teen. Which is somewhat consistent. However, in the 90's AS, it appears that he's a full fledged adult. I think that's partly due to the fact that there were even younger mutants around, such as Jubilee. And it kind of made perfect sense that she would fall for him, because he's closer to her in age than any of the other team members. And I think that was the producers way of conveying that to the viewers.

These days with WATXM, producers are doing the same thing. I think that with his immaturity comes eternal youth.

Just keep in mind that Iceman had his own role in a major marvel cartoon and is the first x-man to ever appear in animated marvel media (except magneto in some old spiderman and fantastic four cartoons)

Also remember that WATXM is riffing off the movie where Iceman was one of the kids.

nothing will ever top the 1992 X-Men cartoon it might not have been just like the comic book but they did everything from Age Of Apocalypse to the Phoenix Saga and everybody from Nightcrawler to Psylocke and even Longshot appeared. X-Men evolution and WATXM took waaaaay too much creative freedom

On the 92 X-Men series Iceman was one of the original X-Men but left way before the first episode and got a job as a CPA they even showed the original five fighting Magneto in the yellow costume and he was throwing snowballs at magneto and giving him the rasp lol

Iceman was shown as original X-men in episode 20 ("Breakdown") on Wolverine and the X-Men in a flashback (along with human Hank, Angel, Scott, & Jean).. I think he was in snow from also.

What most people don't realize is that Iceman is starting to become one of the most publicized X-Men, outside of Cyclops and Wolverine.

For every action figure line there's usually an Iceman figure...

He's featured in tons of video games...

He's on t-shirts

He's an iron-on patch (I know, I bought one on ebay)...

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I would have thought that Storm or Gambit would be more known though.

I didn't say MORE exposed than Cyke or Wolverine, but rather he's starting to get a lot more publicity and product placement than any of the other X-Men.

He has more consumer products and media exposure than most X-Men characters. It may not be more than Wolverine, but looking at his stint on SMAHAF, TAS, WATXM, and video games... He's even crossed over to prime time television with that spoof on Family Guy... So yeah, I would say it's safe to say that he's out there.

His attitude and comeback lines towards Cyclops in X-Men 90s cartoon were great. There he was around the same age but just more aggressive in his approach.

Iceman, Cyclops, Professor X, Marvel Girl, and Beast all appeared in an episode of (I think) Namor waaaaaaaay back in the day. So they all first appeared for the first time ever, together.

I loved that Family Guy spoof.
