How would fellow Wayne fans feel if when Bruce is brought back, he -- instead of returning to the role of Batman -- instead, decided to run for Mayor of Gotham City? I think it would be an insanely bold direction for his character to go in, but I think the potential storylines it would allow for outweigh any potential downsides. It would be such an interesting way for Bruce to go. And at the same time, he could still use his skills, resources, and newly acquired position to aid Dick Grayson/Batman and Damian/Robin in their fight against villainy.
How would other people feel about having him relegated to this role? Hell, he could even continue his career as Batman, just, instead of doing it with the Playboy alter-ego, he could do something equally powerful by serving as mayor.

Green Arrow did this already.

And is too close to the story of Earth two's Bruce Wayne for it not to be considered a rehash.
It would be embarassing if Batman ends up copying Green Arrow.

Who'd vote for Bruce Wayne? As far as I can tell Wayne's public persona is that of a vapid playboy with some philanthropic instincts. Worse yet, his family background is now very questionable, thanks to Dr. Hurt. If I only knew what a common resident of Gotham knew, there's no way I'd vote for Bruce Wayne unless it was a "Mickey Mouse" like protest/joke vote. Then again given the corruption level of Gotham City, he probably wouldn't need a majority of real voters to become Mayor, but on the other hand I doubt he'd be willing to stoop to the nesscary corruption to become Mayor.

Well, i haven't read about Green Arrow or the Earth 2 Batman doing this, and i quite like the idea. His playboy and family background are irrelevant - he's currently giving loads to charity and i'm sure he has the money to prove that the stories about his parents are lies. So if he did that, his family history alone could be a great foothold in voter's minds. To have Bruce in the Mayor's office while Dick stays Batman would be pretty cool - like a cross between Batman and The Wire! Nice.

Seriously? Who the hell wants to read a freakin' comic book about a mayor?Ex Machina seems to have a strong enough following to last years.

Nice idea. But as always it depends on the execution. It would also have to involve Bruce going toe to toe against political rivals, not simply just dolling out money to people to stimulate the economy. Further none of his rivals could be push overs. To counter Bruce's public masque as a light weight. Bruce would need to employ an aide (like Victoria Hand in Dark Avengers) so that it looks as if she is the one who is the brains behind the operations. Not Bruce.
I would only want it to happen for a short period of time..say 12 issues. Brian Azzarello would be great for a story like this.

That's actually a pretty good point.
Yeah, can't say I really see a lot of mileage in this suggestion. I'm open to him doing something else besides immediately putting the cowl back on but... mayor? I don't think so.

Nope Batman is Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne is Batman him Wonder Woman and Superman, unlike most of the DC roster are one of a kind characters they are iconic for thier alter egos just as much as thier hero personas.
Dick Grayson is a reluctant interim Batman only because the world needs to see him Dicks hero persona is Nightwing and he is pretending to be Bruces Bat.
So despite some people wanting Dick to stay as Batman it aint gonna happen i give it less then 2/3 years before Bruce dons the cowl once again as the Dark Knight Detective of Gotham city.

Ex Machina seems to have a strong enough following to last years. Thank you. Glad someone else reads that amazing book. A hundred times better than Green Arrow's attempt at doing that story. Ha.. I guess that pun was unintended. (The mayor in Ex Machina is named Hundred.)

Bruce should go on yet another personal journey when he gets back. Then he and Dick can have yet another heart to heart before becoming Batman again.
