So far, I can think of
Kiss: Kiss Alive II
Peter Frampton: Frampton Comes Alive
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band: Live Bullet
Others?

wrong KISS album. It was "KISS: Alive!" that broke em as it captured the raw energy of the live show.
Cheap Trick: Live at Budokon was HUGE for them, but they were already fairly popular before that.

I feel shame for my faulty memory!

GREAT call on this one!

I don't know if this counts, but a lot of Bruce Springsteen's popularity in the 70s came from live bootlegs that were being circulated. Hearing Piece de Resistance (Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ September 19th 1978 and yes I typed all that from memory) when I was in high school turned me from a fan into A Fan.

Ironic, for an album that was (allegedly) full of studio overdubs.

Same thing was said of another album that can arguably be entered in this thread.

Great record, but I'm not sure where, exactly, they broke through to with it. Rock & roll immortality, sure. Sales? Not exactly; it did the best of any of their records, but that wasn't much.

Yeah, you're right...I did think of that when I posted it but figured, well it did cement their place in the annals of rock history, so what the hell.

Strangers in the Night is probably the greatest live album of all time. It captures that band in a way that has never been shown in the studio.
I just saw them last night in Dayton, Ohio. Rock Bottom and Doctor, Doctor are two fantastic rock songs. It's a shame more people don't know about them.

Don't know if they ever had a "breakthrough" album, but Live in Yugoslovia is the album I remember from Anti-Nowhere League.
