There is occasional talk on other forums about how bad some Live Action Movie adaptions of Comic Books, Graphic Novels or Manga are.

Has there ever been a list published that lists the top 10 or more of these movies? I am curious as to how many and which ones of these types of movies are actually good to great.

Thanks.

Opinions on this subject vary greatly... but some of the ones that are pretty universally heralded as best are (in no particular order)

Batman: Dark Knight

Iron Man

Spiderman 2

Superman (the original Christopher Reeve Film)

Blade

These are not so much for their one-to-one accurate adaptations, but for their maintaining the spirit of the characters.

Best one-to-one adaptation would have to be Iron Man. It stayed true to the origin and the look of the character.

Except nothing like the original book. The best 1:1 was Sin City by far.

Oldboy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldboy) is the best one. Also, give American Splendor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Splendor_(film)) a try.

Iron Man wasn't really a direct, 1-to-1 adaptation because it wasn't directly translating an individual story from screen to film. Odds are we'll never see that with any of the Big 2 established characters. Strictly speaking, none of the superhero films are really adaptations in the sense that the word is most commonly used when books are made into films. But Iron Man is one of the best big screen presentations of a comic book superhero.

I think that, with the release of Watchmen, Sin City is now Exhibit B in the case against strict fidelity to source when adapting a comic story to film.
