I know. I just wanted to check how many people would watch it.

Mass Effect.
Or Silent Hill 2. Done properly, that is.
And Assassin's Creed.
Also Gears Of War.

None.

Good movies, possibly, although no one's done it yet.

But great? Not gonna happen.

An anime sequel to Snatcher (http://www.gamecritics.com/feature/greatgame/snatcher/page01.php).
I demand it.

I was gonna mention Half-Life, but I'm unsure of how the whole silent protagonist thing will translate to the silver screen.

After seeing the new Halo live action trailer I don't see why a live-action movie is still not available...

I'm mildly curious to see how the WoW movie turns out. Should be interesting at least.

Halo could be fun.

Almost any Silent Hill game would make an amazing movie if done right. The resident evil movies redone right would be awesome too.

Infamous would be a cool superhero movie, and from what I heard, its already greenlit too.

Halo will be one epic action movie!

The Silent Hill movie was pretty close to being great. Not quite, but it did the series justice.

Really, almost any game could make a great movie if done right. Meaning, the producers remember its a movie first, they strip most of the gaming elements away and just stick to the core story, and they shoot Uwe Boll on sight.

"Mortal Kombat" is a great movie, but for some odd reason terribly received
After the many badly received Video Game movies they should stop wasting money on them

Bioshock would be a wonderful film!

If they reboot the series and make it closer to the game then Resident Evil would also be a good movie.

Mass Effect has a universe that seems tailor-made for movies.

Except making it a movie would destroy everything that makes Mass Effect great. Totally lose the customization, the immersion... I don't think a Mass Effect movie would ever be better than the game. Or even come close. It would just be actors miming cut scenes.

Hell, what Shepard do you even use?

Also Gears Of War.

Gears of War seem better suited as a series. Same with Monster Hunter.

I think Dead Space would make a good movie.

The only reason noneof the many rich videogame worlds and stories has not been turned into a good movie is that so far nobody has really tried to.

Pirates of the Caribbean is not interactive, you have no control over the environment, you go where the train takes you, hence the word "ride"

Also those rich video game worlds and stories take hours on end to complete. Try cramming a 20+ hour game into a 2 1/2 hour movie and see what happens.

Pirates of the Caribbean is not interactive, you have no control over the environment, you go where the train takes you, hence the word "ride"I don't get it. It's like saying you can't film a novel because novels are made out of paper.
Also, anything except good RPGs, games are very linear, you have zero control over the plot, no real interactivity beyond shooting/slashing/beating up stuff.

Also those rich video game worlds and stories take hours on end to complete. Try cramming a 20+ hour game into a 2 1/2 hour movie and see what happens. So? Did they cram 60 years of Bat-continuity into The Dark Knight? In fact, one of the worst mistakes of many failed game films is that they tried to cram way too much of the game into the film instead of just sticking to whay was relevant to the film's plot.

Stop-motion Star Fox.Arwings on string! The fun thing about Star Fox is that it references quite a bunch of sci-fi movies to begin with... great part of the charm of the gameplay to me was that it felt like I was in a sci-fi movie when I played Star Fox 64. Thought it was a pity that Assault left far less room to choose your own paths and control the storyline.

Also, anything except good RPGs, games are very linear, you have zero control over the plot, no real interactivity beyond shooting/slashing/beating up stuff.

Even in the earliest and most basic of games like Pong you can manipulate the environment. To take the classic arcade shumps example, you decide what to shoot, what not to shoot and were to move the little ship. So you have a some control over what happens on the screen, thus you interact.

As a result you have a certain degree of control over the events around you. A main character is you.

With Movies TV shows and Books (with the exception of choose your own adventures that fell out of favor past the 90's) You have no control over the events, they happen without any input from you. Now in the case of books you have liberty to visual interpret those events, or you may fantasize about having control over the events. But you can do nothing to impact the characters you are reading about or watching.

In a game you're and active participant, in movie you're a spectator.

So if you turn a game into a movie you remove the audience participation. This is not say that movies or books are bad, but they are a different experience, playing Mario is just not the same as watching Mario. Now Mario can be fun to watch (R.I.P Captain Lou) But gamers are use to playing Mario. So there's a certain amount of subconscious resistance because no one likes to lose control.

This why the "Book was so much better then the Movie" comes into play because even though the book is still an witness form of media you have complete interpretation of the events that transpire.

So? Did they cram 60 years of Bat-continuity into The Dark Knight? In fact, one of the worst mistakes of many failed game films is that they tried to cram way too much of the game into the film instead of just sticking to whay was relevant to the film's plot.

Point taken, disregard my second part of the post.

I see neither Metroid nor The Legend of Zelda on the list...

Wouldn't mind seeing those either, at the very least they would allow us to still drool over the hotness.

I wouldn't be interested in seeing any of the video games in the poll on the silver-screen. However, If a studio had insane amounts of cash and a prominent director, I could live with the following:

Xenogears
Rogue Galaxy
Wild Arms (preferably based on 1 or 3)
...Earthworm Jim

YES!

Star Wars the Force Unleashed. The story fits really well between Eps III and IV. Some guy ripped the cut scenes and spliced them together for dowload on rapidshare. It actually comes out to a really good movie (better than eps I and II imo).

Totally 1000% agree with you.
We have the perfect Shepard, we have the story, we have the acting, what would a movie bring that trumps what's in the game? Like you said, they'd act out the cut scenes. Which already are acted out and finished? Making a movie of the game screams "redundant" more than anything. The fun of seeing a movie adapted from another source, like say a comic or book, is seeing the characters and world you love come to life. Most modern games accomplish that and more already. So what's it adding to the table, unless they drastically change it?

Adapting an older (or older style) game, like Zelda is perfect I think. There's room for interpretation and world building. But a game like Uncharted or Mass Effect is better than anything a movie would ever give us already, the world is fully realized and the graphics and acting are, for all intents and purpose, real.

Even though it's not listed, I think Star Wars Bounty Hunter would make a great movie. People have always wondered where Jango and Boba Fett came from. If Lucas did a X-Men origins type of movie of Jango's backround and where he came from that would be pretty cool.

left 4 dead barly had a story and a simple one at that. not all great video games can make a movie, especially ones with random zombie plots with no meaning.world of warcraft if it ever needed or wanted more money to make a movie go ahead.millions will see it some random story from a mission or guest but in reality it wouldnt be the real world of warcraft movie just a random branch. it would work but wouldn't get my attention.some other games i don't see working. i dont see zelda working due to link being a child or at least looking like one. it would probably work out though. marvel:ultimate alliance would if made just be a animated or somewhere with the next like 30 marvel movies! man they are on top of things lately! metal gear solid i can see and it would work out with good enough actors, though the games have so many talking and cut seens they practically are just reallly long movies rather than games.the other games didnt seem to much for my intrest such as fable, because we all know elder scrolls needs to go down first, and that rpg's are more complexe and wouldnt be as epic because its all from the story. there already is a mario movie and i hope another onbe would mess me up. i also don't see a good plot for sonic unraveling that people could aprieciat. perhaps if its cartoon it might work, same with mario. if you ask me the best games for movies today are probably gears of war, halo,inFamous, and god of war. fairly new all of them(which is slightly upsetting to not see the classics) but they all have structord plots and realistic senarios.and fourtanitly almost all of those are either in production or being written. i wouldn't mind to see a fallout movie(and ya i am wanting the whole fallout 3 story line but it would be good to see the classics brought out of the shadows and catching peoples attention) or dead space myself though( and when i mean dead space i mean a live action one based on the game and maybe a little back story from the comics and animated film) and deffinitly a resident evil movie based on the game. i would so much prefer that then the movies now, they are to much for me and i can't get intrested.
