Hey, all. I just got a Wii recently and was wondering what are the 5 best games to start off with?

Depends on what you like, but here are some good titles:
Mario Galaxy
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
House of the Dead: Overkill
Metal Slug Anthology
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Mostly action/ RPG games but pretty much anything other than sports games.
How is Metroid Prime 3, for example?

If you like action/RPGs, Muramasa is an absolute must. Very fun combat system and probably the most beautiful graphics of any game this generation.
I've also heard really good things about Super Paper Mario.
I haven't played Metroid Prime 3, but I loved the first one and tolerated the second. But don't buy Prime 3. The Wii now has Metroid Prime Trilogy, which I will be picking up.
Some people say Prime 3 is the best of the three. The controls are supposed to be tight.

Cool. Thanks for the tip.
I might still pick up Metroid Prime 3 though, just because I could get it pretty cheap. I have no idea when or if Trilogy will be coming to South Africa.

MP3 is a great game, if not a must-play. It does make a lot of the small mistakes that MP2 made: the story is a bit over-bearing, detracting from the open-ended exploration of the first game (in fact, it felt very Halo-y, which may not have been a mistake). If you wander around too long you'll get little reminders telling you you're supposed to stop dinking around and go to the next plot point, which seems very un-Metroid. Also, the 'innovations', whether it be by way of new suits or beams, just aren't as cool/fun as the series staples or those presented in MP. Does anything compare to the Wave Coil?
Still, the controls are very good, making for a really unique and fun experience and some of the best boss battles...well, ever really. There's a point in the game where you pass by a space marine training exercise that invovles juggling a little metal football-thing by shooting it and seeing how long you can keep it from hitting the ground (an exercise that'd just be tedious even for an advanced player using thumbsticks). This alone kept me busy for an hour the first time I played it.

Well, I did go ahead and buy it off the internet so I'll let you know what I think in a few days. It does sound cool. For what it's worth though, the last Metroid game I played was Super Metroid but it is a strong contender for my all time favourite game.

Super Paper Mario is a great game, especially if you've played the previous games. This is a lot more platform action based than the Rpg's but still continues the humourous themes of the previous ones.
