Well let's see how things go this month but I know I'll be buying again (possibly 2 copies. I do love those headshot variants).

Alan Davis covers makes fans happy.
What's happening in the book itself is making me happy. I'll stick around for this arc and see what they have in store of us.

Some of that might be artificial inflation. Hickman has had good word-of-mouth since Secret Warriors, so stores over-ordered because he's hot right now. We'll see in a month or three if he can keep those numbers up, or even improve them.

I loved 570. I had stopped buying the book a few years ago ... lost its flavor ffor me and didn't feel very FF-y. This new creative team appears to keep the essense of what the FF is, and adds good drama to it.

First issues of new runs generally see boosts if the team gets any real promotion (plus, variants). Promising, still; we'll see how that holds.
That's what happens when Reed hits the weights.
A little bit of extra eye candy for the ladies never hurt anyone.

Actually, the new promotional team on Justice Society (the book Eaglesham left) also got quite the big push (and Willingham is considered a hot writer), and sales numbers plummeted.

I really hope this is an indication that Hickman's profile is rising and that people who enjoyed his Image work or Secret Warriors are following him over along with Eaglesham fans.

I said "generally". There are always going to be exceptions.

I think Millar's first issue (or 3) had big spikes too before falling, and that was without variants. Just playing Devil's pro-bono legal advisor.. I would rate Hickman's FF:DR and first FF issue leagues above anything Millar put out, but 1st issues of a new team AND alternate covers make for suspect sales numbers. Hopefully it stays on the up.
On the POSITIVE side I heard more than one LCS saying they had cut their FF orders down considerably between sagging interest by the end of the last run and the 'no name' taking over the book. So with high numbers and that kind of feedback.

I have a feeling Hickman's going to be getting a big push in the days to come. He's part of the Young Guns or whatever they have for the writers.

I hope the numbers hold up. In a perfect world, good writing should bring back the fans more than a big name that didn't live up to his own hype. The FF has always been hanging in at the top 20 titles but at the end of the last run, it dipped down to 39th or thereabouts.

I don't really care about sales, it's quality that I look out for. And the first issue of Hickman's run was quality. I've said it before, but if he keeps this level up, and sticks around for a few years, we could be seeing a return to Lee/Kirby or Byrne levels of quality for this book.

It's no suprise considering it had like 50 variants. It's like Pokemon, you gotta grab 'em all.

Yeah, and the flip side to sales is.. Marvel knocks up the price of the better selling books! Glad I have an annual sub

How many incentive covers did the issue have?

I think the was the 70 whatever Variant (Big Reed) and a Cassaday Variant(?) then the regular. There very well may have been a 4th cover.. can't remember.
The trick with those (Every book had that 70th frame thing last month.. I think) is LCSs have to order X amount to get them.. so they often end up over ordering to get the variants that they then sell at a higher price to compensate for fact that they had to buy more than they know they'll sell..
It's a gimmick, nothing more, and totally skews the numbers.

Yup, 3 variants indeed. 70th Frame Variant, the Cassaday variant and the 'Reed's big noggin' variant. No doubt they helped the overall numbers.
Even still... that's a really, really surprising increase to me, given who was on the title before them. Even allowing for the fact Hitch didn't do the last issue, I'm personally shocked to see their sales so low and the new guys' so high.
But we'll see what sort of business #571 does...

I think you will see a more realistic figure when the first standard issue is released without any variants.
Which has still yet to happen with Loeb's Hulk as well, seeing as every issue has a multitude of variants to bolster the sales.

Well there will be at least 3 more months of variants for at least the Big Head versions anyway. Though I would love for them to do versions of Franklin & Val.
