And I'm not even talking the killing. Characters with unique personalities that are fun to read. It's one of the few DC books I look forward to every month along w/ Superman/WoK, B&R & Red Robin.

I've read some of it and I just didn't digg it that much. I wish I liked it as much as everyone else, I feel I'm missing something great =(

I was really in the same boat as you. I read the two minis first (Villains United and Vol 2) in tpb and really didn't see it as a big deal. Catching up on Vol 3 tuned me in, especially after Gail herself told me it was okay to see it that way. I went back and collected singles for the current run, but didn't really jump on board until about 'Date Night.' I think it finally set in around then. I could appreciate the snark and exchanges. I won't go overboard and say its everyone's cup of tea, but when compared to the more traditional good guy fair being published, S6 offers dark humor and moments of badassery lacking in near every other title DC's puts out. Don't be ashamed if it didn't really grab you, but this is one of those titles that may be an acquired taste if you didn't really start from the beginning.
It got very good after I gave it a second shot.

It didn't feel like a typical DC book to me... so i bought a few more issues.

I quite liked the first mini. Was put off by the second.
But the on going? Whoo-boy. That's some good stuff Gail and Nicola got going there.
The current arc is dragging a wee bit, but even then there are some truly magnificent moments. A great read. And yes, a very non-DC book.

Secret Six is, no doubt, the BEST thing DC is publishing right now.

It's easily the best team book that DC are putting out at the moment. The writing is tight, the artwork's great and Simone is making the so-called "B-Listers" into an A-list cast. It's consistantly one of the highlights of my comic-buying month and a genuine pleasure to read. Kudos, Ms Simone.

I wish Gail Simone (read: one of the most talented writers working today) were in charge at DC. The books would be a lot better, IMHO.

But if she were in charge she might not have as much time to write the awesome books that she does.
There's no other option, we have to clone her:biggrin:

I think part of the reason it is good is due to Gail actually listening to what readers think, like/dislike by interacting with them. I wish more creators would do so.

Secret Six is that piff and the entire team is gully as Hell. The art is gorgeous and the stories are always interesting because they are presented as a bunch of people trying to work together but also looking out for themselves at all times as villains are want to do. I like that they have friction and relationships within the team that keep it together when they are close to falling apart. Scandal and Bane, Catman and Deadshot, Deadshot and Jeanette, Ragdoll and Deadshot... the little moments they duos have together make things interesting.

Jeanette is a bad ass!! I like how she turned Wonder Woman into a gibbering mass. She's by far my favorite character of the Six, and I hope she gets a lot more spotlight time.
And I love Deadshot's line, "And I was just getting used to getting it regular." LOL!!

I love this book. Just so much fun. It makes me miss Birds of Prey a lot less since it fills the pure fun void that book once took up. The only DCU book that I anticipate more is Batman and Robin.

Secret Six is amazing...easily th best DC ongoing right now. My only real problem with it is that I have to wait a whole month between issues.

The stories, character, art, I have loved this book since it first came out. It's about the only great thing to come out of Infernal Crisis.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the book right now, but I disagree that other DC books don't feature characters with distinct personalities. Secret Six to me is just one of many great books DC is producing right now.

I'm loving it. It's pretty rare for me to actually like all the members of a team. In JLA, Avengers, X-Men, Teen Titans... there's usually a few members I wish would jump off a bridge. But I'm really attached to everyone in Secret Six.
Even Jeannette, who had me going "...who is this chick?" for a few issues, is now one of my favorite characters.
Also, does anyone know who did Secret Six #13's cover? I think it's amazing.

Yes.
Daniel Luvisi.
He is the regular cover artist for the next year or so.
His first cover is Secret six #10. He also done #11,#12 and this one #13.
He is doing #14, #15 and #16 according to dc's website and solicitations.

One of SS's appeals is that, it's unpredictable. With a lot of comics, the characters are either predictably good, predictably violent, predictably evil, whatever.
The SS are basically bad people who occasionally do good things... for their teammates or others. But you never know what they'll do or when they'll do it.
So there's always an element of suspense and surprise with them that doesn't happen in other books.

I hope this version of Bane sticks. His character has been re-written so many times it would be nice if they kept it like this.

And I like that it's a series where you can have crazy stuff happen. I'm of the firm belief that Simone can make anyone interesting (though I still have no idea who that guy is at the end of the most recent issue).

The thing I like is how things can go from incredibly bad to nothing but the worst. Everything can go from Oh jeez not again to oh what in the Hell now? issue to issue.

I have to admit, one of the things that's really impressed me with Secret Six is the characterisation of Bane. I never really cared much for the character but Gail's depiction of him is fascinating.

I dunno man, I wasn't hearing a cry from fans for a book like Secret Six - usually requests for the opposite - just cries of how much we loved it once it came out (or a few months later for some of us!).
I think more she knows to give us what we really want, not what we say we want!
The Secret Six is the only comic that DC is putting out that I consistently like.
Gail Simone needs to get a shot writing Batman.
I'd love to see Dr. Psycho come back for a re-match with the Secret Six.

Very droll.
However, if every book was this good - fast moving stories that put the varied cast into all sorts of different situations for maximum effect, strong characters who stay true to their character - whilst still maintaining the ability to surprise - draw droppingly good art that is both consistent and on time, and a sense of humour that is ever present yet never derails the story - if every book had that, then DC would be number one!
(Heck, I wouldn't say it has what a lot of DC is missing, I'd say it has a lot of what most ongoing comics - heck, serials - are missing).

I disagree completely.
nothing will change the minds of the casual fan, who wouldn't take a DC book if it were given to them.
there are some who just won't accept that DC is better, even when they consistently prove it.
