I love this page. It is so very much Lex Luthor.

Seem Project Alien Farm is a cloning project. Maybe Lex was busy cloning Doomsdays or human-kryptonian hybrids or something else.

Glad Brainiac and Luthor are out.

Anyone have a guess as to who the clone is. Lex says its family. It is Conner's clone that's supposed to be more like Lex?

Oh no. Johns is giving Conner a rouges gallery exactly like Superman's. There's that genius from the first issue who becomes Conner's Lex, this clone which will definitely get ruined and become Bizzaro Conner. What's next, another cyborg with kryptonite inside? Another Kryptonian general?

Love luthor's dialogue.

That art is savage!

Is this series is easy to get into? I have never read anything about Superboy. I have a very general idea of his origin but no idea how he died and came back. Does this series explain that? New reader friendly?

Definitely accessible. This was my first Superboy book/Adventure Comics issue and it tells you everything you need to know.

This issue was all kinds of awesome and beautifully illustrated to boot. Loved the emotion and feeling of connor and cassie's date in the sky with krypto holding up the table

Frances art continues to be simply stunningly beautiful.

Loved the expression on Lexie's face as he read the headlines of superboy returns!

Liked the meeting between connor and his new frenemy simon valentine! I liked seeing element lad as the chemisty professor again.

The legion back up was pretty cool as well. So lightning lord does have a Twin (Retcon?). Still i think it makes for an interesting story beat. The art by clayton henry is more than decent. He should be on an ongoing title i think, maybe he can take over after manupal leaves.

Crap. This ties into the rest of the other superman books. All 17-bazillion of them.

Fantastic. One more book to buy to understand what's going on.

Does this book tie in with the rest of the Supe books? I thought it was pretty independent.

Well, it has Brainiac and Luthor in his ship, which was stolen in the main books, so...yeah.

I'll let you in on a secret the Big 2 don't want you to know: You don't need to read every book out there to get what's going on.

I only buy Adventure Comics, and it's pretty freaking easy to understand what's going.

Did you have to read the other books to know that? You don't have to read all the books unless it's a specific crossover like Codename: Patriot(which ended last month).

Now does Lex Really care abot Connor?

Lex is twisted. He wants to do all these great things for the world, but he believes Superman is stopping him. In the same way that he believes that he cares about the world, he may consider Connor his son.. but in the end all he really cares about is himself. At least, that's how I see it.

Now does Lex Really care about Conner?

To whatever extent he is capable, yeah, he cares about Conner. But Lex ain't right in the head, and he will put his hatred of Superman above his feelings for Conner.

We also see Lois supplying a little cover for Superman on the "why didn't he seem to mourn Conner the way other people did?" issue.

That last shot of Lex is worth the cost of the whole book.

I bought the first 2 issues today and I really enjoyed it. It was really entertaining and... cute.

Is the Legion story important to the Superboy story in any way? I am not really interested in reading it.

Loved it.

The colors were really pretty (Art-wise).

My personal favorite line was Cassie's "I'm not your Lana Lang." And TIM DRAKE is guest starring next issue. (More-slash fun).

I still don't get the "What Superman did" and "What Luthor did" ....but I like it.

and Luthor's expression at the end. Woooh. That was priceless.

The list Conner made is how he's trying to figure things out. It's easy to replicate Superman's life and follow his path. But what about Lex? Conner wants to know if he will become like Lex because of genetics. He's seen how the clones at Cadmus took on the personality traits of the originals. So far he's taken on much of Clark's, but there is still the Lex factor.

Loved the issue. The reunion between Superboy & Wonder Girl was done very well. However the stars of this story were Krypto & Ma Kent. This story worked in so many levels IMO. Both myself & my teen age daughter loved the story but for different reasons. The artwork continues to impress.

However the Legion story is not working for me. It's too short for a cast as large as the Legion. I was hoping that with the co-features DC would be doing a 15 page/15 page count rather than 20/10.

I also wonder what is happening to this title with #7. I know Levitz is returning to the Legion but there has been no mention about Superboy.

I hope Lex ends up playing a major role in this arc. The idea of bringing back the Superboy concept, but in present day but make him a hybrid of Clark AND Lex.

Genius idea.

Genius idea.

Geoff Johns they call him.

He wrote (first) about this idea back in a an old fan letter to dc, it's on the net somewhere.

They already turned Match into Bizarro-Kon. It would be nice if they could bring Scavenger to Smallville to fight Kon or something. It's too bad that Knockout's dead and the rest of Superboy's old adversaries seem to be too connected to the islands of Hawaii. Though, I would love to see someone come up with some excuse for bringing King Shark to Kansas. People seem to forget that Kon had an existence (including a well-received solo title) before he became a Teen Titan. Unless it's to create a "Oh wow, what were we thinking?" moment for Cassie and Kon.

:frown: Why do they have to rip on the old days? Those were some fun comics for their time.

Anyway, it was still a pretty good read. I just kind of wish it hadn't spent so much time on Luthor, but that's because I don't like him.

Loved the issue except for one very glaring problem.

HATED that "God, I wish you weren't so perfect line" line during the date scene. WTF was that? Methinks Johns has been reading too much Twilight.

Vomit inducing line aside, everything else was pretty ace. I'm really going to miss Manapul. He's just such a perfect fit for the book; really fuses the modern with the nostalgic, and the colors themselves are just full of emotion.

I do agree though the Legion backup is suffering from too few pages. Though I guess leaving us wanting more isn't a terrible thing. Especially since Levitz coming on board should reverse the book's lead/backup features.

I think Cassie said that bc she was filled with guilt over her fling with Tim and Kon was just saying all the right things. It isn't so much that he is perfect but bc she felt she hurt someone who was being so sweet to her.

Cassie said Great not Perfect, there is a large difference.

Also he is half Superman so should be atleast as half the "greatness"/"perfection" of Superman which since Superman is cast as the bestest thing ever should be great atleast.

I wonder how long before this book gets split, cause I don't think they are going to swap Superboy to a backup feature.

Johns looks to be staying on Superboy with Levitz doing Legion.

I loved this issue it was very sweet and romantic tho i was kind of hoping he would hook up with the cute girl from last issue.

The Legion is not doing anything for me at all i must say tho in all honesty i have never been a Legion fan.

I know why she said it, and I thought the rest of the scene was really sweet. But that one line, be it Great or Perfect, really struck me as the overly-romantic tripe I'd expect in Twilight. I figured she would faint after saying that.

I thought this was really charming. It was so sweet and all the characters were lovely. The art is gorgeous, too.

I couldn't read the Legion back-up, though. I tried, but my eyes crossed over with not caring and I got two pages in to the back up before I gave up.

As much as I loved this issue (with the heartfelt conversation betw. Conner and Cassie and all), I can't help but feel bad about it because 5 months from now everything will change with Paul Levitz as the new writer. I hope he'll maintain the tone but I have this feeling that it'll be a Legion of Superheroes-centric book.

What's even sadder is that the last issues of Johns will be about Superboy "Ihatehisface" Prime.

1) The Legion stuff is great but its more set up for an ongoing series to come
2) The Legion will be appearing in Superboy, Kon's science teacher is Element Lad.
3) I don't see why you wouldn't read it if you bought it:tongue:

The lightning Lad stuff is written for newcomers while setting up a future story so I can see why it would not satisfy everyone but the Starman one was a riot. LONG LIVE BOWLING!

Fantastic Book, the first thing Super-family related I've enjoyed in years, The art is simply breath-taking

The reunion between Superboy & Wonder Girl was done very well, I like how they mentioned the whole Robin & Wondergirl kiss
It was nice to see teenagers written in a smart way for once. When Connor realized what Cass did and didn't get mad, that just really made me happy. He realized he was 'dead' at the time and so it shouldn't matter.

one of the best books Dc is putting out now....so damn accessible

Okay -I'm going to go completely against the grain here and say I loved the Legion back-up. Yes, it's far too short to be as fully fleshed out as it needs to be but I got a real kick out of seeing Mekt. He was the main antagonist of one of the few Legion stories I've read in full, so it was great to see him... And just completely unprecedented that he'd have Lightning Lad running errands for him. I imagine with Element Lad, Starman and Tellus all in the present day, we can expect to see the two stories crossing over soon enough...

I'm not a big fan of Superboy, but I have to admit I'm really liking what Johns is doing with him in the lead story. I like that he's taking the time to really get under his skin, but insofar I'm not convinced that this story needed as much of the page time as it's had. If anything, Johns could've cut out some of Cassie's more cringeworthy dialogue (as noted by a poster above) and cut some of the big splash pages to make a 50/50 split with the book. But that said, I'm really digging new Brainiac - So it's a great surprise to see him in this comic! :D

I couldn't get interested in the Legion story but I'm not disappointed that this is the first Superboy based-title I've read. The conversation between Conner and Cassie was sweet and is probably one of my favorite romances going on in comics right now.

I'm liking the comparisons on becoming more like Superman and more like Lex as well. There's really nothing I can complain about in this title...for now.

I like how being dead for a while made Connor really mellow out.
