Umm...where's Brandon Routh on that list? He's definitely got my vote as the best Clark and Superman.

/me hopes feverently that Tom Welling gets 0 votes. (Assuming of course a lot of people would vote here.)

Sadly no. Polls are unmodifiable as a general rule as to preserve the integrity.
Just create a new one and tell the mods to delete this one.
Do we really need to go over this again? Doc, you did this thread last year. Just click on your profile page and go read those old threads.

Which comic books?
In the comics, Clark has been portrayed as everything from meek newshound to slapstick goofball to a yuppie jock.
In the current comics, I'd say Clark is closer to Brandon Routh.
In the 90s, Dean Cain was a pretty good approximation of the Byrne/Carlin era Clark.
All Star Superman's Clark was definitely in the Christopher Reeve mold.

In my ideal little Superman world, Dean Cain is Clark, Christopher Reeve is Superman.

Christopher Reeve didn't play Superman as he was in the comics, Superman changes to act like Christopher Reeve's portrayal

When I saw the thread title, I came in here intending to make that point if no one else had. After all, Clark has been appearing regularly in comic books for 71 years and counting, written by dozens of different people, so it would be ludicrous to claim that when Superman is being Clark, he projects "one consistent personality" every day, in every story! I suspect that every actor who ever portrayed Clark Kent has acted very close to the way Clark comes across in at least a few comic book stories -- stories published either before, during, or even after the timeframe in which the actor was doing his thing!

With the exception of Tom Welling.

To be perfectly frank, I've never watched a full episode of Smallville in my life. Back when the show had recently started, I watched the beginning of an episode. I don't remember any details now; I just remember that I got bored in a hurry and turned off the TV. So although I have heard various things about Smallville over the years, I don't know from personal observation how Tom Welling normally portrays Clark, nor how that would compare with any version of "young Clark Kent" in my comic book collection.

I guess it comes down to when you were first exposed to Superman. I started reading comics in the late 80's-early 90s when I was a kid. To me, Dean Cain has portrayed the Clark Kent that I know the best.

Reeve was the most entertaining but Cain brought a more real humanity to clark who wasnt so bumbling or a source of comic relief like Reeve, entertaining as it was.

I would say, Dean Cain.
His approach was more akin to what was being presented in the comics where Clark was most certainly NOT the bumbling goof that the general public were more familiar with in the Reeve films, and that was great.
