This is something others might find helpful as well, and if there is already a thread for this I apologize. I"ve never been a Wonder Woman reader, beyond what I've read in crossovers and JLA or other team books. A friend of mine has been recommending that I check the current run out, but I have no idea where to begin. I was wondering if you could give a specific issue that would be good to jump on at, or possibly some older story arcs that I could go back and grab. Thanks for the help.

I go to the library to catch up on trades. I'm lucky enough that libraries I know of have well stocked comicbook sections.

I say grab whatever speaks to you but avoid "war of the gods" I think i have the name right. Also avoid Jodi Picoult's run.

and thats all I can think of at the moment

I always recommend new readers start with George Perez's run. There are 4 tpb's available that contain the first 24 issues. If you want something more recent, I'd go right to Gail Simone's "The Circle".

Good call. I loved Perez's take on Wondie. And the art! The art is so fabulous.

You can start with "The Circle" trade, as has been mentioned. That was Gail's first arc, and I think the trade also includes the second short arc, which was also good.

If you're interested in jumping on-board after that, next month's issue begins a new story arc, so that might be a good place to begin.

Read Hiketeia by Greg Rucka, it's a cool one off which really captures in a nutshell how he writes Diana. It's the one with her boot on Batman's face. After that you can choose if you want to jump into the rest of Rucka's run.

I personally feel that going back chronologically and reading Perez' run isn't a good idea. Perez' writing and art was good in what it laid the groundwork for, definitely, but I think Wonder Woman fans in general are more fond of it than they ought to be. The art also is good but it's quite obviously 80s when you look at it, which might jar a little if you're reading it just as another story rather than someone looking to pursue a character they already like.

As has been said, if you want to get into the current run specifically then start with 'The Circle'. I must warn you, however, that Gail's run can be a little all over the place sometimes. There are some very good aspects (I enjoyed the Circle, the art is consistently fantastic and the Wonder Woman/Black Canary team up issues are awesome) but also some stuff which falls short (the Wonder Woman movie arc, parts of the Conan/Beowulf arc, the space arc, the Gorillas, the secret agent stuff).

I completely agree with all of this!

I agree with everything you said, except that the 80's style art is cool but I may just be nostalgic. ;)

The art in hiketia is fantastic. That story broke my heart. Especially the line about the cops laughing. It haunts me.

All great suggestions! And remember, avoid Jodi Piccolt like the plague.
