The influx of new and returning folks to CBR has surprised ALL of us. I mean, we're all happy, but MAN, that's a lot of new folks, and we couldn't be more delighted!

So I'm opening this thread, for people just to talk about themselves, to make friends, to discuss whatever they want without worrying if it's on-topic or not. We have so many people here already that it'd be kind of nice to hear what's going on in their day-to-day lives.

If you have a website or blog or twitter or facebook page, consider adding that to your post here, okay? I have a feeling a lot of new friends are going to be made here, might as well make the most of it!

Okay, I'll bite!

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/anthonylower

Just like a contractor doesn't take the time to fix his own house, I am a web guy without a personal website, though my baby is the portal of the university I work at: tuportal.temple.edu. It takes my time, so when I am on spare time, a blog or designing a site for myself is the last thing I want to think about.

Don't do Twitter, I'm about 90% sure it'll lead to the downfall of civilization by helping with general dumbing down and sanctioning bad written communications through its character limit. Also, it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Testing, message boards, IM, email are covering all the bases. Twitter is the uninvited guest that is trying to barge into the text based communication party!

I am on Staycation this week. We're planning day trips around Philly/New York. Tomorrow is the Star Trek exhibit at the Franklin Institute! Can't wait! Any suggestions for the rest of the week?

Hey all,

I'd like to not share my facebook, etc. yet. I kind of agree with Delta above that it's a slippery slope. I don't want to put TOO MUCH personal info on the web. It's got to have ruined/tainted several personal relationships at some point. Become my friend and I'll share privately, but for now I keep Facebook kind of lean on purpose.

Anyway, you DC heads probably don't recognize me... heck, even the Marvel forum people may not. I pretty much read Spider-Man, Avengers, Captain America, and Iron Man books. I'm kind of intermittent, in that I show up on these forums and bombard a thread or two of my interest and then vanish for a month or a few weeks at a time. Got too many other things going on to show up real consistently. So I've been here at CBR for a few years, but like I said... I come and I go. This new forum has me excited, and especially now that I don't have to cull through all the DC stuff I have no interest in to find good Wonder Woman threads.

My interests outside of comics (again Marvel +WW) include playing guitar (yeah, I know... who doesn't), progressive rock, outdoor activities like camping and canoeing, and Latin American cultures. New to international travel outside the U.S. (trapped in Suburbia far too long), but have committed to a plan to go somewhere every year. First trip was last year, Guatemala. Everyone should go to Lago Atitlan at some point in their life, if possible. Simply amazing! I have a few possible trips 'in the works' for this coming winter, again very likely foraying into Central America, though Brazil is also on the horizon for early 2010. Anyone have any specific suggestions? Where and why?

Got nothing else for now, just wanted to 'introduce myself' and make your acquaintances. Take care all, I've always enjoyed this community and look forward to 'meeting' more of you!

Hey everyone,

I'm Dave from Florida, and I'm okay with putting up my Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/david.berger), but if you want to add me, please send a message telling me who you are. Any friend requests without at least a little note of introduction will be ignored. But, I am always willing to make new friends.

Also, if you're on Facebook, there's a CBR WW Message Board (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=128755317225&ref=mf) group I have started. Please join if you're on Facebook:. This way, we can keep the personal stuff to a minimum here. Even this thread can get heavy quickly. :)

Costa Rica.

Beautiful country with an amazing variety - we spent time on the coast/beach, at the active volcano which spews lava every night, in the cloud forest high atop the mountains, driving through the jungle, and visiting the capital San Jose.

My name is Luka, and I live on the second floor...

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I started reading comic books in April 1978 after watching a TV program called Special Edition do a profile on Stan Lee and Marvel Comics. (How I wish I could find that episode!) In the show, they revealed a panel in which Shang-Chi was in bed with a girl. At least, that's what my memory tells me. Nevertheless, it was steamy enough to get me picking up 35-cent Marvels the next day. In other words, at the age of 9, I started buying comic books thinking there was softcore porn in there. (And Frank Thorne's Red Sonja wasn't too far off, right?)

I'm a child of the '80s and became a lifelong fan of New Wave and post-punk music after discovering the legendary Philippine alternative station WXB 102. Much of that history is on my site:

http://www.suttonmusicgroup.com

Fairly interesting trivia and koinkydinks:

My birthday is May 23. My favorite singer of all time, the late Ian Curtis of Joy Division, was cremated on May 23, 1980. My second favorite vocalist of all time, Morrissey (of the Smiths), has a birthday the day before -- May 22. It wasn't until more than a decade later, long after they became my rock idols, that I discovered this.

I once wrote a semi-hit Christian ballad that many listeners mistakenly interpreted as being about losing a loved one to AIDS. It was actually about my dog, who was getting his balls operated on. The song became a favorite at funerals, nobody knowing its true meaning. (For the record, the dog was named Weed, named after a joint.)

My first crush ever was actress Lydia Cornell from the '80s sitcom Too Close for Comfort. She's now among my best friends.

I haven't played Dungeons & Dragons since 1983. I was a Dungeon Master at the time, and I put my friends on a six-month campaign to find hidden treasure. After half a year of gaming, I revealed that the treasure were the bones of their dead parents. They were not amused. And I was never allowed to participate in D&D games again.

I can remember conversations from the '70s. Just don't ask me what I had for lunch last week.

In my first issue working at Amazing Heroes in 1989, I proclaimed that Neil Gaiman was "comicdom's most promising fantasist."

My favorite super-heroines are the Huntress and Lady Blackhawk. My favorite super-hero is the Hal Jordan Green Lantern. (Yes, I heard about that.)

As an English teacher, I once had a student who grew up on the streets and couldn't understand semicolons. So I explained to him that semicolons separated two rival gangs. He received an A on his test that week.

I'm old and married with two grown children, both of whom also love comic books (although my daughter's tastes run more toward manga).

I play City of Heroes/City of Villains and am pretty well known on the Virtue boards on the CoH forums. I like to write fan fiction based on the adventures of my characters. It's just a hobby and I have no delusions about how well I write.

I also draw a little, but I'm a better writer. Again, that's not saying I'm good at either. :p

ANYBODY else here play CITY of HEROES?

Hey there. I'm Cal. Just finished grad school for my Master's in Library and Information Science before becoming promptly unemployed. Turns out that the two things I'm really qualified to do - editing and librarianing - appear to be two industries that could be going stronger right about now. I actually recently applied for an editing position at DC. No luck there! How amazing would that have been, though? Anyway, I read a lot, I write some, and I'm a TV/movie fiend.

My facebook page is here (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=12301577&ref=name), but if you want to add me, send me a message and let me know who you are.

I also have a comic book review blog that I do with a few other folks: Read/RANT (http://readrant.wordpress.com/). It's been going on for over 18 months now, to my surprise, which is waaaaaay longer than I've ever kept a blog going, so feel free to check that out and comment on whatever.

My name is Kyle and I am an actor, voice-over artist, and student living in Chicago.

I have loved comics and super-heroes since I was a youngster watching Superman: The Movie and Superman II on VHS over and over and over again, along with re-runs of Wonder Woman on WFLD Channel 32 here in the Chicagoland area.

My first actual comics were GI Joe and TransFormers comics from Marvel due to my love of the respective TV shows and toy lines.

My first DC comics were old issues of Justice League of America which I loved because it had all the world's greatest super-heroes all in one book! As a result I fell in love with the DCU and went on to pick up more DC issues at flea markets and local comic racks.

I still have pre-CRISIS DC issues of FLASH, Wonder Woman, Superman, Firestorm and Green Lantern, and early issues of John Byrne's Superman and George Perez's Wonder Woman run, that to this day, make me fall in love with comics all over again!

So far I have found people on this forum to be passionate, interesting and decent. I'll be sticking around for sure.

Peace,

Kyle

Nice review of Detective Comics. I like Greg Rucka just fine -- even met him at the Emerald City ComicCon -- but I have to say that the widespread critical praise on that book is baffling, in my opinion. The art is mesmerizing, but I have yet to grasp the hooks in the storyline.

Hey,

I've been on the dc message boards for a long time before everything started to get dirty in there. I've always been a great fan of Wonder Woman and greek mythology and I'm interressted in polytheistic beliefs.

I'm twenty and I live in france, I was born in Philippines.
I'm a musician, I play the guitar, the banjo, the mandolin and the lap-steel, I also sing and write and compose songs, all in english.
I also love drawing, I've always liked drawing since I was a boy and now one of my greatest source for inspiration is Wonder Woman =)!

I work in a french fast food called Quick, an equivalent of Burger King, some of you might know. I've been promoted recently, and I quite enjoy that change in my life since it's a good thing to be promoted at the age of 20 =)
Beside, I go to the university, for what purpose, I don't really know since I don't know what to do in my life yet lol.

I leave my facebook here if some of you want to know me better, I already know some of you here, as aegis and nerites, two great guys!

Hey everyone,

I am Dan from Tauranga, New Zealand. It is one of my countries biggest cities, nestled in the Bay Of Plenty and 'world famous in New Zealand' for it's beaches. It is a beautiful place to live - my favourite spot; The Mount (in pic) right on the edge of the ocean, I run up every Sunday, and despite the regularity - never tire of the view from the summit (Pic of the Mount attached).

I love the outdoors, work in advertising - doing the old 9 to 5 that is now the 8 to 6, and writing and drawing are some of the best ways I know to unwind. Buying in to that downtime, I run a blog that helps prevent my brain from exploding over everything I thing I think is cool about comics, and the characters within them.

This forum is the best fan community I have found on the net - It's just a great positive place, and I always look forward to what happens here next.

Always looking for new people to meet, so feel free to message, it's all good.

Cheers,

Dan

I love that you found the forum so positive ^^ We've an art thread if you'd like to post any fanart of course (I feel guilty for not contributing yet, but figure drawing is not something I've had as much practice with as I'd like: I'm used to structures/spaces and more abstract design).

Hey all,

My name's Justin. I'm 42 years old, and Scouse by both birth and profession

Work-wise, I spent my first 11 years supporting / teaching people with severe learning difficulties, then made a left turn into I.T. That's been my trade for the last 14 years. Not very interesting work, but the pay's good, which allows me to indulge my obsession with comics in general, and Wondy in particular.

Other things I enjoy are reading, music, comedy, movies and avoiding physical exertion of any kind - hey; I'm Scouse, and have a reputation for laziness to live down to!

I have no discernible artistic talent, but do enjoy writing the odd (sometimes VERY odd) poem. Quality-wise, they have more in common with William McGonagall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_19vlT8QdA) than William Wordsworth, but hey, I enjoy them anyway.

I'm here to talk Wondy, and get to know some amazing people from all walks of life (which is easy, 'cuz that's what this board is full of).

Thanks for that Julia - glad you liked the pic! I bet you do get a few jabs between the Kiwi's and the Aussies in your bar too... They are great neighbours, and we wouldn't take the mickey out of them if they didn't make it so easy - so it's their fault really!

A lot of Kiwi's make London their home away from home, so there's no doubt enough expats looking for a decent pint at the end of the working week somewhere near you!

Abstract design is always good to see - sometimes it better to look at a work and think about what the artist is trying to say then when you get it in one go. Either way will be great to see how your creativity works!
