I've been loving the Showcase Presents trades since they cam out but there are a few volumes that I haven't seen that I thought for sure would be out by now but have yet to see printing.

I'd like to see the following as soon as possible....

-FIRESTORM

-ALL-STAR SQUADRON

-THE GREAT DISASTER

-SUICIDE SQUAD

-CAPTAIN ATOM

-VIGILANTE

Plus I'm still waiting for more UNKNOWN SOLDIER. That volume really kicked butt and I hope we will get more.

What do you guys think? What would you like to see in a SHOWCASE edition?

Peace,

Kyle

I like Jason, it makes more sense to have him as Firestorm too. Since he actually knows something abot chemistry. But I did like Ronnie.

As long as Lorraine is around, it's all good.

Jonah Hex Vol. 2, already!

Seconded! Although I have heard that there's some legal problems with the material that a Jonah Hex Showcase Vol. 2 would need to include, so it's probably been indefinitely shelved. After all, it's getting on for three years since it was initially solicited (Christmas 2007, I think).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showcase_presents#Possible_reprint_exceptions

However, I've also read that DC have announced plans recently (at one of this year’s comic cons) to issue some colour TPBs of older Hex material, to tie-in with the upcoming movie...but there’s still been no mention of a Showcase Vol. 2.

I'd also be pretty interested to know what DC plans to do after Showcase Vol. 2 comes out (if it comes out) because by my calculations, there'll need to be a Showcase Vol. 3 and 4 in order to reprint all of Jonah's comics up to Jonah Hex (vol. 1) #92.

Yeah…let's not hold our breath over that.

Lorraine should be a permanent staple in this book. Jason was alright, he just never had anything about him that I found particularly likable.

Suicide Squad was originally solicited, but was cancelled due to royalty issues. I think that is the reason that most of the material from the 80's are not being released. But, then Booster Gold and Batman and The Outsiders were released, so I may be wrong.

I liked him, Ronnie Raymond bothered me when he first came on the scene, but I've grown to like Firestorm in general.

I don't know what kind of legal issues DC is facing with Jonah Hex Vol. 2 and Suicide Squad. I've talked to both writers and there doesn't seem to be any holdup on their end. And we know it's not the colorist that's keeping these things from being published ...

I would love to see Arak and Amethyst.
I want a Showcase of the three Super Powers miniseries. I think that would be a great one. Adrian Gonzalez, Jack Kirby and Carmine Infantino drawing those series ... it would be awesome to see all those series collected in one volume.
I'm hoping the Flash Showcase volumes will eventually get to the Trial of the Flash. That's the one I really, really want (along with Jonah Hex volumes 2-4 and Suicide Squad).
I could almost see why there would be a problem with the Who's Who, since there are so many artists involved. But, these other series aren't making the writers and artists any money just sitting there not being published.
Steve Ditko's Starman would be a cool Showcase, especially now that DC is publishing the smaller volumes like Bat Lash and Eclipso.
Star Hunters would be cool, as would Shade the Changing Man.
Here's one I'd really LOVE to see: Cancelled Comics Cavalcade.
All that material in one edition, cleaned up and available for everyone to read finally.

-The Brave and the Bold: The Classic Heroes (reprinting The Brave and the Bold #1-24, stories featuring the Silent Knight, the Viking Prince, the Golden Gladiator, and Robin Hood)

-Action Heroes (reprinting Charlton Comic's Captain Atom, Nightshade, Blue Beetle, Question, Peacemaker, and Judomaster stories. Maybe also include Sarge Steel, Son of Vulcan, and, if DC can secure the rights, Peter Cannon... Thunderbolt).

-U.S.S. Stevens

-Weird War Tales

I'd like them to get with the next couple of volumes of Batman, Green Lantern, JLA and Legion, as they are just getting up to to the stuff I really want to read.

I'd also like to see the Jonah Hex stuff continue.

I'd think you could also make a good one for The Demon with the whole 70s run, the stuff that came out in Detective and then add the Matt Wagner mini-series at the end. I'd buy that one.

2nd for the original Shade. Plus a Showcase for the Freedom Fighters.

Also one for the Human Target.

And how about some of the back-up stories from the main books of comics like Action or Detective Comics: Roy Raymond, Secret Six, etc.

Showcase Presents: Batgirl volume 2

Is the first one good? I kinda wanted it but the cover turned me off big-time.

Does it contain any of the Batman Family stories from the mid '70s? I have seen the individual original issues but too expensive.

The cover is absolutely hideous, but the interior stories are about Dr. Barbara Gordon, age 25, head librarian of Gotham, deciding to use her natural intelligence and detective skills to aide Gotham becuase it's the right thing to do. Definitely worth it.

Honestly, I don't know wtf DC was thinking with the cover. You know the story in the issue with the cover? She's worried because her mask is covering her eyes.

WHO'S WHO, dammit...Why? You wouldn't buy an encyclopedia from 1985 would you? It's the same thing. I don't get the idea behind reprinting Who's Who or Handbook of the Marvel Universe in phonebook editions. I'd much rather have them as searchable databases on their websites. Better yet, create new ones for the websites.

What I would buy, on the other hand, are All-Star Squadron, New Teen Titans (which I'm sure we'll see by the end of next year), Amethyst (because I don't think it's ever been collected in any fashion, and the previously solicited Suicide Squad and Captain Carrot.

Is that before or after she's a Congressman? I've always been curious about those stories, and wondered what dual-life as a politician/vigilante would be like (Ex Machina not withstanding)

Showcase Presents: Batgirl volume 2

No, it's her first appearances co-starring with B&R, and then the series of back-up stories from Detective Comics.

As I recall, this volume ends with her going off to Washington. This was essentially a way of getting rid of the character; her appearances were rare over the next few years and they never really depicted much of what happened to her in Washington.

Thanks for the info! I will go get a copy today; I need some good reading. I remember reading batgirl stories when I was a kid, but I mostly remember her in Superman and Batman Family. And I remember I had one Detective with her fighting a time-stopping villain named Velvet tiger, and I also had the continuiation of that story in an issue of Hawk & Dove. I am pretty sure I was too young to read her original series in Detective, so this book will be cool. Thanks for the tip. :)

I went to the LCS on break and picked up Showcase Presents: Batgirl. I have read a few stories, one good,. one meh. Love the art on most of this! I'll def pick up a volume two. Lots of great guest stars, too. I had no idea batgirl was as integrated in the DCU (Superman, JLA, etc.) as she was in Batman stories.

Well, that's pretty interesting. Thanks for that DonEMC. I tell you though, if I don't hear something about a Vol. 2 of Jonah Hex soon, I think I might just abandon the "Showcase" route and start tracking down the original issues instead. The very early appearances aren’t too cheap but once you get into the main Jonah Hex series, backissues are pretty reasonable...especially if you're willing to shop around a bit.

I'm kinda hoping that the up coming movie will flop and disappear without a trace, in order to keep the prices of those back issues down.

Something I love about the Bronze Age Batman Family stuff was how competent the Batfamily was - they were all intelligent team players who got along with each other. Babs was freaking awesome as Batgirl back then.

Doubt it'll be happening until DC negiotate a fee with Bob Rozakis since he has refused to sign over the rights to his DC work.Methinks Bob is just getting greedy so until he is able to settle it with DC , SSOSV is unlikely to get a reprinting in TPB.

I can sorta see his point. The letter he was sent was a once-off, for all time agreement for all of his work, and it was sent to him when DC was going to reprint a 'World of Krypton' story. he said himself in the comments section, that he would have signed something similar if it was just for the showcase works. I'm hoping that somebody with half a brain at DC reads those comments, and gets that happening.

Also, the cast of Bat-Family was slimmer and easier to follow and care about. These days it seems like DC is packing as many characters into the Batman mythos and possible. Definitely too many Robins and Batgirls these days.

I hope DC prints a second Showcase with Batgirl. I want those later Bronze Age stories (for cheap).

There are a few Supergirl/Batgirl teamups in the Batgirl Showcase. Fun stuff. It's a shame that Babs and Kara were not allowed to be "Batwoman" and "Superwoman" back then, because in the Silver and Bronze Ages, they were not sidekicks. These days, the Batgirl and Supergirl characters are younger and seem less independent to me. (I still have not forgiven DC for killing the original Kara.)
