but i don't know where to start. i've seen the FUNimation dvd sets on amazon, and found some questionable dvds from thailand on ebay... basically, where can i find the best version of the anime for the lowest price?

or, would you recommend the manga over the anime? thanks

YouTube has it for a very low price.
If your going to watch the anime, go for the subs of FUNI Dub.
Manga is further along right now, but the anime is damn good and has some epic moments you just have to see animated.

what he said. it would be best for you to read the manga first. then watch the anime.

subs are good since funi is now showing the latest releases every sat at 9pm.

as for dubs, only watch the funi dub. the 4kids dub is a crime against reason and humanity.

Nonsense. Without the 4Kids dub, the One Piece fandom wouldn't have anything to bash!

Don't you see? It's the 4Kids dub that's prevented the OP fandom from engaging in Shipping Wars like the Bleach and Naruto fandoms!

It was also the 4Kids dud that pretty much wrecked any chance that One Piece had to really catch on in the United States. But I digress.

Edit: For got the rules for a bit.

Like the other said, read the manga first.

Chapter One (http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/1/01/)

I hope you enjoy the ride.

Meh. Some of it is also Cartoon Network's fault. Goddamn Toonami-killing, CN-Real supporting bastards.

I didn't even allow VIZ to finish dubbing Zatch bell and Starforce.*sniffs* I loved those shows.:frown:

Seriously, fucking CN Real.

What the hell are they thinking? It was bad enough they played live-action Batman on the Cartoon Network. That at least tied in with a cartoon they had.

Instead they have the world's shittiest reality shows. Destroy, Build, Destroy? Mythbusters without the myths. That one ghost show? Ghost Hunters is better. Survive This? I'd rather just watch Man vs. Wild or something.

I'd rather watch Total Drama Island/Action or that surf cartoon than this crap.

But fuck 'em. All they need to do is put Toonami and Boomerang and it won't have even mattered. Now that that channel has PPG, DexLab, and SamJack, it's like a friggin' rennaisance.

Rant over.

I recommend doing what I do, read the manga, then watch selected episodes in the anime for fight scenes and other action stuff.

Don't ruin the magic! :frown: This was how I learned that live-action Batman films existed in the first place!

(Of course, I also vaguely remember seeing Batman & Robin on ABC family; jury's out on whether it was before or after Toonami's broadcasting of the '89 Batman movie).

As I said, it was tolerable, since it at least was a comic book movie and tied into the wider concept of Cartoon Network. Even having a show like Power Rangers (which was Toon Disney before it became Disney XD) was okay like that.

The nice thing is Funimation has really started to speed up their releases lately. They are putting out a set every month latley. I would imagine it will keep at this pace since they already have everything from episode 140 on dubed anyway. If you have Netflix they have all 6 of the current Funimation DVDs available.

If you want to read the Manga there are currently 21 volumes realeased in the states by VIZ, but after the first of the year they are going to start cranking them out about 4 or 5 a month to catch up to where the story is. So there should be nearly 25 or 26 volumes realsed in a 6 month stretch or so.

Not sure what Funimation has for the first eps. Still, manga's waaaaay cheaper. Plus I like gazing at the artist's line work, as nice as the color an animation makes the action scenes.

Like the other said, read the manga first.

Personally I'd just find some subs somewhere. The manga's great once you're caught up there are some parts you just need to see animated.

For those who don't want to pay for One Piece episodes, FUNImation is showing them both subbed & dubbed. They are currently showing the arc where Usopp joins.
