Isn't Phil the best?
I just loved his vision of Wonder Woman!!!!
No other has ever been able to capture Donna's true character on the page, other than Wolfman.

Phil did an amazing job on Wonder Woman. I love that he threw in so many fanboy touches without it reading fanboy-ish... They were just part of things! I wish he had stayed a little longer on the book!

Phil is totally awesome, as a creator and as a human being.
He wrote some of my favorite WONDER WOMAN stories: WONDER WOMAN #170, a day in Diana's life where Lois Lane follows her across the globe; #172, where Hippolyta sacrifices her life during Our Worlds At War; and #176, where Diana and Circe have a Dynasty-style, Krystle vs. Alexis all-out brawl.
He's one of the best artists around. I can't wait to see his work on ASTONISHING X-MEN.

Even though he won't be the artist on anything Wonder Woman related at least he will be drawing on Storm & Emma Frost.

I liked Phil's run too. There isn't a run that I feel has completely tanked yet. There's something good about every creator's incarnation of Diana. With Phil, I loved the re-made PI, Trevor Barnes, The male Cheetah, The Silver Swan, and further incorporating Donna and Cassie into Diana's world.

Hopefully he can fix Storm's horrendous outfit. She looks like she is* in drag.

Having met him a few times, I can say he's a genuine, caring person who loves Diana and all she stands for. I thoroughly enjoyed his work on the book, and I hope he gets to work on it again in the future, after Gail, or as a guest penciller if Aaron needs a break :)

Phil's run was one of my favorite on the series. When he was on the title, it was constantly on the top of my reading pile when the new issue came out.
You could actually see his love for her on each and every panel, and the only thing wrong with his run, was that it wasn't long enough.
I'm also looking forward to Astonishing X-men (his Storm is one of the best) and his WW encyclopedia.
My fave thing he did was to re envision Paradise Island. I use that pic from #177 as my Wallpaper for my computer. The only thing I didn't like was the male Cheetah...not so much because it was a male Cheetah as it took the mantle away from Barbara Minerva Cheetah.

Oh yeah, his Wonder Woman/Lois Lane issue is one of my favorite stories of all time for either character.
Phil is not only a talented creator but a considerate, generous and warm-hearted person whom I've been privileged to meet on a few occasions since 1994 when we first met at the San Diego Comic Con.
I remember when I saw him at SDCC and mentioned how much I enjoyed his work on Team Titans. I asked whether he had any original artwork for sale and he said "wait here for a few minutes". He returned with a couple of pages of his Team Titans work which he gave to me as I enjoyed his work so much!
I have always remembered his generosity that day which continued when we met again years later in Australia. Here are a couple of amazing gifts from Phil which hold special memories -

Awesome cover by Adam Hughes! Here's what Adam said about it:
"Here's a Wonder Woman cover, just finished, for an encyclopedia soon to be published by DC Comics.
This has been sitting on a back burner for months; I posted a work-in-progress for it a while back.
Funny story: this cover came about after I handed in 7 designs for the cover to the animated WW DVD that came out a few months ago. My designs were rejected in favor of animation art, but someone at DC saw the designs and asked if I could finish one for a book cover.
11"X17" pen & ink on Series 300 3-ply Strathmore vellum board, then colored with Photoshop CS2."

We need Phil, George, Adam, Jim and some others to come in and do Art for Wonder Woman for a year, I bet you she would sell through the roof. Each maybe take 2 to 4 issues each for the year. They should do this for her 70th Anniversary.

Phil Jimenez was what got me excited about Wonder Woman again. I actually stopped reading the book for a while after Perez left the book. A few years later, 'Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar.' was released. The scene where the girls redecorate with the theme from the WW TV show reminded me how much I missed Diana. I went to the comic shop and bought the current issue. John Byrne was writing at that time. I read it, and it just didn't click for me.
A couple of years later, I got the dvd of 'Too Wong Foo.' Again, I gave WW a try. This was around Eric Luke's run. I thought it was pretty good, and found my way to the DC Boards. That's when I saw the preview pic of Phil's WW. I was hooked!!!
I started reading every issue after that. Phil's art and his writing reminded me of how much fun comics could be. I loved the fan boy touches and the underlying message of peace and hope that permeated his work.
Thanks Phil for bringing me back to the fold.

I really believe it's a perception problem. A lot of people have a totally inaccurate vision of who and what Wonder Woman is, and thus, refuse to even give her a chance.

Loved Phil's run. I love how he draws Diana. She is gorgeous. I will always remember the Our Worlds At War tie in with WW and when Diana talks to Lois about her mission and about her feelings for Kal. Honest and true is Phil's WW.

I love PJ's Wonder Woman. She's striking and strong while still maintaining an aura of mercy and compassion, which seems to be a pretty hard balance to strike when illustrating her.
All too often images of Diana look to me like they're meant to communicate how "hot" she is, sidelining the whole Amazon part of the character, and as a result her strength of character and raw physical power are lost.

I've recently re-couped Phil's run and for the most part it was pretty good. Great art.
But the one thing I disliked is that he could be a bit ponderous with his narration, it was too flowery, as if he was trying to make it almost Shakespearian in tone and it weighed down the story.
What I really like about Gail's style is she's very thrifty with her words, but Diana still retains her regal tone.

It's a brand-new book inspired in part by the old Fleischer titles. I know a similar Batman book was published some time ago, and I think a Superman title was in the works, thought it might have come out and I missed it.
Phil Jimenez is the consummate Wonder-fan, the first person working on the book who seemed to actually WANT to work on the book in years, and a terrific artist. It's his fault I'm still reading comics; he drew me back in when he brought back Giganta as a giant lady in a leopardskin bikini and a lunch-lady hairdo.
He took a lot of crap, and to be honest, while he was obviously dedicated, he didn't quite have the chops then to carry off some of his ideas as a writer. But his run is fun and helped revitalize the book.

Despite having to deal with the shit left over from Byrne's run, I dare to say the Phil's run on WW is probably my favorite interpretation of the character and is even slightly better George Perez's run because of this factor. Unlike in most interpretations of the character in which she is either portrayed as man-hating head slicing barbarian(Bruce Timm interpretation), a hypocrite (Geoff Johns interpretation), or a sex object (John Bryne interpretation), Diana is depicted as a kind, loving, forgiving, compassionate woman yet who is also strong, wise, and noble. However she was also human. She doesn't play superhero all of time and does know how to have fun. She doesn't just do speeches at UN meetings but also gets involved in helping people all across the globe no matter what race, gender, culture, or age. She isn't doing this to prove that she is perfect, she is doing this because she cares so much about people and treasures human life. She would rather spread her message of love then to go beat up some bad guys. Jimenez didn't need to have her panties be crawling up her ass or her breasts shoved in our faces to prove that she is sexy. Her wit, charm, intelligence, dignity, and grace was what her sexy.
Two of the most powerful stories and moments in his run was in Wonder Woman issue 172 in which tied intothe Our Worlds At War crossover. Around this time, Diana and her mother, Hippolyta have been having conflicts and fights with one another who derserves to be Wonder Woman as well as the recent decision to remove the morchary on Themyscrica. Near the end of the story Hippolyta sacrifices herself to order to save Athens from Imperiex probe. Diana holds her mother's burnt corpse while her mother is trying to speak. I wish I could show you the level of emotion and saddness that Phil draws on Diana's face when she holding her mother's body. I'll describe to you but wouldn't do any justice compared to actually seeing it.
Her mother tries to speak.
Diana (trying to calm her down while crying): Shhhh. Don't try to speak. You must save your energy. Are you listening to me? We're going to take you home. We're going take you back to Themyscrica.
Her mother struggles and touches her face softly.
Diana (warmly smiling while shedding more tears): Ha Ha Ha. That's right, mother. It's me. It's your daugther. I'm going to help you.
She coughs painfully her dieing breathes.
Diana: Mother? You stay strong, do you hear me? We're going to get you help. You just hold on!

This has to have been one of most tragic and saddest comic book deathes in history. This could have easily just been just a emotionaless brutal death made just for shock value which it was intented to be by the editors but Phil just but so much emotion into it that this has to be one of the few if only time I've ever got my eyes waterly over comic book. It's sad that this death was undone by that piece of shit story, Amazons Attack.
Another powerful moment that to me defined Diana as a character and really makes her killing Maxwell Lord just down right retarded. I've explained this story in depth and compared with the Maxwell Lord murder in one of my videos. So I'm not going to no into much detail. Basically Circe has made Diana's life a living hell, she turned her "little sister" Vanessa into the powerful, dangerous, and vengencful Silver Swan (Circe with help from Dr. Psyco helped unleash Vanessa's inner hatred toward Diana in abandoning her, not having her be Wonder Girl which according to her, she "deserved", and making her life a living hell. This version of Silver Swan is much like Diana's Two-Face due how tragic that her little sister was turned into villain), she has killed many of Diana's close Amazon sisters like Menalippe and threatens to kill even closer friends of Diana, and she haunted Diana in her dreams pretending to be Hippolyta in saying that she failed to save her. Circe challenges Diana into killing her live on TV, playing upon all of Diana's recent traumas and heart aches. But the Amazon's irrepressible compassion triumphs.

I'm quite surpised there are many WW fans who didn't like his run due to them saying that his stories were too continuity driven. I actually liked that because for once Diana's history is respected and is not forgotten. Yes it does add more of an impact on you if you know your WW history but still his run can still be read as a stand alone much like other stories that are continuity driven like Sinestro Corps War. Though I admit I hated Trevor Barnes as first but I kinda started to like him as his run went on especially when they went back to WWII. I liked how he was normal guy trying to deal with being with a woman who goes on all of these fantastic adventures. Sadly many of the great things that happened in his run like Themyscrica becoming a mighty series of floating islands dedicated to the free exchange of information and ideas from all cultures and religions were lazily destroyed in Greg Rucka's run (I personally feel his run is extremly overrated), again in Infinite Crisis, and then again in One Year Later.
To me his run is probably one of the best runs in comics that I have read so far because of level of passion, love, and respect he put in his work on the title. Even if you didn't enjoy it, you can't deny of how much passion and love he has for the characters as shown in his writing and beautiful art. The best of his run is collected in the two graphic novels, Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost and Wonder Woman: Paradise Found. His run is to be the definite version of Wonder Woman in the same way the Chris Reeve and Richard Donner films are the definite version of Superman to me.
I met Phil this year at SD Comic Con (this was my third year and my first time metting him). It was interesting and fun talking to him and hearing his thoughts about some of recent things that have been happening with WW in recent years like her killing Maxwell Lord, her becoming a secret agent, and the animated movie which were exacty my thoughts as well.

I can't imagine anyone not liking Phil's run. It's clear he had a great deal of respect for everything George Perez created and that alone speak volumes about his dedication to Diana and her corner of the DC Universe. Aside from George and now Gail, I think Phil humanized Diana more than any other writer I've seen since her Post Crisis introduction.

I think it's interesting how most people use his love for WW as a powerful reason for anyone to not dislike his run. Loving the character has nothing to do with the actual writing he did in technical terms. Some people didn't like the way he constructed sentences, other people hated his dialogues, other people hated his plots. His love for the character doesn't detract from whether he is a good or a bad writer...
(I adore Harry Potter, and I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to write it....that love alone doesn't qualify me to be the writer of the books and if I were, that shouldn't be the sole reason for people not to dislike my writing)

I think it's interesting how people can talk horrible things about Grant Morrison, Will Feiffer's Amazons Attack and Ed Benes' depiction of WW, but PJ somehow has to be talked about in strictly superlatives or else you are seen with raised eyebrows. Quite interesting.

Love Phill too! He draws a beautiful Wonder Woman and I enjoyed his run immensely!
I find it interesting how some people's egos make them think that we are interested in hearing their opinion about something over and over and over again. Say it once...the more you talk, the less convincing you become.

He may not be the greatest writer, but he can surely draw. His Wonder Woman was a visual feast. Nothing to complain about in that dept, and a lot to appreciate.

There were some rocky points, but I ADORED Phil's run on Wonder Woman. I wish DC would release a HC of his work.

I thought every character was spot on. Especially Fury.
I was totally looking for this thread a month ago when I scanned in pages from his new Astonishing comic, but I couldn't find it.

I really like his Emma, Armor, and not a sentinel Wallflower. It's a bummer she didn't stay all humanlike.

why, may I ask? I loved his run, personally. I really identified with Hippolyta and Diana fighting (with the roles a bit reversed, the mother wanting independence and acting a little like she was going off to college to finish her education).
I understand the way he wrote them not being everyone's cup of tea, but "hated"? That's a strong word.

Ahaha I never thought of it that way. I love it.
It's been a couple of years since I last read through Phil's run in its entirety. I've slowly been working my way up through volume 2, and I look forward to getting to his issues. He wrote one of my (well, a lot of people's) favorite issue of Wonder Woman (#170, natch), and his art is absolutely lovely. He always comes across as very warm and passionate in interviews, too. He's tops.

I loved Phil's WW and still read it often. While 'A Day In The Life' is the best issue, from the new paradise island to involving all the 'wonder family' his whole run was a true class act.
If he's doing a WW encyclopaedia I'll definitely be forking out for it.

For whatever reason this post was brought back to life, I loved the video clip from "In the Life." What a sweet human being. I've always thought that Phil's artwork was beyond beautiful, and the man himself is pretty hot too!

Can't think of anything she seems to like except hating. She also likes creating future storylines in her head and then getting mad at Gail for them.

There's no other run I can think of, since the first Wonder Woman comics, that just took everything in her history and just ran with it, no apologies. Not just a great love letter to Diana, but to an entire method of earnest storytelling.
If Wonder Woman goes back to serial TV, this is the model I'd want to see used most of all.

I have always wondered why DC Direct never made this into a Statue/Maquette ? It is Beautiful and just yells out "Carve me into the most gorgeous statue ever!"

I loved that about Jimenez's run. He's one of the very few Wonder Woman writers who actually built upon what others did in WW's history. I especially liked that he used a bunch of villains, starting out with Deimos, Phobos, and Eris, revamping Angle Man and Queen Clea, and bringing back the concept of Villainy Inc. Although I wasn't that impressed with Vanessa as the Silver Swan (though it was a good story) or He-Cheetah.

I agree with you completely! Loved most of what he did but HATED Vanessa as the Silver Swan. The return of villiany Inc. Was awesome! Angle Mans return was perfect! And I actually didn't mind he-cheetah as I figured he'd be killed or the real cheetah would return, of course I'd have loved if the original Cheetah returned after that but we got Barbara back and that was Good too.

I liked He-Cheetah for how he was handled. Too many artists would have hesitated to draw him the same as his predecessor, in terms of dress and body language. But, then, who's the High Priest of Body Language in American comics? Right.

Truer words have never been spoken. Wonder Woman has never had someone on the book as faithful and devoted as Phil Jimenez. And there's never been in a time when words, pictures and underlying implications were as beautiful and true to the character. Initially fans may have been hesitant to see your vision, but in retrospect your interpretation was truly magical and golden. All hail the uber-fan turned amazing and innovative creator! Keep writing man, the pictures you draw are beautiful...but the stories you write are their equal.
