A lot has transpired these past couple of years within the X-books. The X-men have changed and are still changing: we have Cyke who's adopted this new mission statement that he feels is the best way; I'm not sure where Prof X stands but I think it's safe to say he still believes in a peaceful co-existence between mutants and humans.

My question is this: Do you feel Xavier's mission statement is defunct? Is Scott's way going to do more harm than good?

I would like for someone to take the mantle of the orginal X-statement: a better world for human and mutants living together. I know I've mentioned this more than once, probably to the annoyance of some of you, but I Jean returning and holding this banner. I think the idea of two opposing thoughts within the X-camp is something that's needed. I wouldn't necessarily say one group is bad the other evil but something to show that there are no easy decisions.

I feel the X-men are getting away from what they used to be about...which isn't a bad thing but they need a strong reminder......what if we had to X-groups? How would you guys feel? I say Scott representing one ideal and Jean the other? But who do you see taking the helm? And do you feel the old mission statement is needed or do the X-men need a new one?

Well..to me and I could be wrong because I pretty much follow the comics online...he seems to be a "by any means necessary" type now. He seems more pro-mutant than pro-humanity(mutants being human as well).....

I would think that Jean Grey and Scott Summers believing in very different ideals would make a very interesting storyline. Scott and Emma used have a edgy contrast but now that Scott has changed so much, Scott and Emma are now much more similar in method as shown by Utopia, X-Force, and the Cabal. Now, Jean Grey would contrast current Scott in method and behavior more than Emma ever would. Jean and Scott clashing would also generate a lot of angst as the two were once lovers and the rest of the X-Men would eventually fear that their new rivalry will turn them into the next Xavier and Magneto. Scott will remain with Emma, who is still bitter and hates Jean, causing tension in the Scott and Emma relationship as Scott would still defend Jean as he once had feelings for her.

I was thinking about this the other day, the X-Men used to be this smallish team of heroes who happened to be mutants running around saving the world from other mutants who posed a threat. There's so many characters in the X-Men compound now the numbers are unwieldly.

It would be nice to have a contrasting group, Jean is a great choice but if not her then Storm, to be still fighting for co-exsistance rather than isolation.

It hasn't been stated yet.

So far all Scott has being doing is whatever it takes to protect the last remnants of mutant kind.

The move to San Fransisco was about moving to a place that might prove more tolerant than others and getting away from a place that is constantly being blown up or the epicenter of every dangerous super powered event.

Putting together X-Force has been about eliminating threats to mutantkind quietly and permanently.

His tactics in regards to protecting Hope was about securing the future of mutants.

When your numbers get so low that you're an actual endangered species it becomes less about co-existence and more about survival. So far that's all Scott has been concerned with.

I dunno about missing statements but I like how the X-Men are actual this big group which have specific squads for different types of missions. Only thing is, in Uncanny I would like to see splotlights on more than just Emma, Scott, Wolverine (gasp!). I would not mind an X-treme X-Men type of book that focuses on the old mission statement though.

Xavier's dream was the dream of an idealist. Mankind can't even peacefully coexist with itself, let alone another species and right now it needs a realist in charge, not a dreamer.

"Peaceful co-existence" is a lovely thought but when mankind is infecting you with the mutant version of AIDS and using you as human bombs, inbetween blowing up school buses, sending killer robots and preaching mandatory sterilisation, it's clearly not workable. Cyclops way is the way mutants need to follow right now. Even if he IS a jerk ass

Keeping this within the context of comics...that's kind of a...cope out. Yeah battles get tough and hard..and the enemy can be relentless......but the "dream" is worth fighting for...that's what the X-men are all about. You don't give in to tyrants...ever.

Now.....outside the context of comics.... where would society be in real life if people gave up their dreams just because things got hard? Where would civil rights be? Where would women's rights be? We have to fight sometimes....and there are casualties...but if you believe in something whole-heartedly...fight for it.

I always felt that the X-men stood for something and that Xavier's ideal was something that can be realized....and worth fighting for....

..Don't you guys think Cyclops making another mutant nation aside from mankind is asking for trouble? I mean, I think he's basically planted a huge bullseye on a place he intends to be a haven....not to mention we've seen this before...Asteriod M, Avalon, Genosha...they all ended badly....
