View Full Version : Necrosha..Marvel's answer to Blackest Night?

infernohara

It may not affect things on a global scale like Blackest Night is, but could this be Marvel's self contained answer? I've read the first issue of Blackest night and figure Selene could really make things interesting. Do you think the characters that come back will be as sympathetic as they once were or do you think they'll become psychotic? Will Selene actually kill some named mutants and bring them to her side?

I love the many ways they can play this. Playing with ones emotions can really parts of people. So the starjammers may need to stay in orbit at least till Necrosha is over because if they do come back Rachel will most likely bite it. Anyway, excuse the rant......Can Necrosha stack up?

So are you asking us to compare the two crossovers (even though we haven't seen one and the comparison has been made numerous times) or are you asking to effuse over the return of Skin, etc... ?

I would love the return of skin and I didn't notice a thread that already compared. If so, I missed it, but was wondering will Necrosha stand up to Blackest night and would we have the same psychotic killer angles the Black Lanterns give or would this be more psychological to the X-men.

A techno organic army is much more interesting than a black lantern corps or whatever they have.

It's not in a thread title, but DC crazies have been making the comparison/accusation all over the place.
And we don't know yet what the resurrected will be like apart from being grave lickers.

I see absolutely no connection between the two stories? One is about a virus, and the other is about aliens and rings or something.

Well the connection is the dead coming to life. This basic connection is probably what has the wild threads in DC threads.

Eh, you're right/ There is just to little information to judge what would happen during this. I kind of put this out there for people who know more about how Selene does things. Pure speculation thread. Brian, can we suspend thread until November?

I see absolutely no connection between the two stories?

Really? I'd say the whole "dead rising to be pains in the ass" connection is quite obvious. Of course, I don't think it really matters. I've yet to be impressed by Blackest Night, but I expect to really enjoy Necrosha--even though the title is horrible. I'm not really a Geoff Johns fan, but Kyle and Yost have consistently engaged and sastisfied me--Messiah War being the exception.

Both stories are about a Big Bad bringing dead folks back to life for a larger purpose. Both stories will explore the psychological implications of how the live heroes will deal with having to fight previously dead partners or allies.
Marvel uses the techno-organic virus to do it.
DC uses Black Lantern rings.
When both stories are over some of the dead may stay resurrected.

See the similarities now ?

"The dead rise en masse" is hardly a new concept. Comparing Necrosha to Blackest Night would be like comparing Blackest Night to Marvel Zombies, or "The X-Humed" (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/xhumedshehulk.htm).

More to the point, only the seeds of the story for Necrosha are planted, and other than "the dead rise en masse", there's really nothing in common between the two stories. Even from what we know right now, we can see no differences between the two.

I mean, are people going to start saying that "Dark Reign" is too much like "Lex Luthor as President"? Or "Avengers: The Initiative" is a rip-off of "Checkmate"? Any "Exiles" vs. "Crisis on Infinite Earths"?

Just go ahead and go with:

There are never any new ideas in comics. Everything is essentially the same...its all about the execution of an unoriginal idea that makes it cool.

WBE, you contradicted yourself. First, you say we can see no difference from what we know, which I agree with. Necrosha's premise seems to be basically the same as that of Darkest Night. Of course, you then go on to call them apples and oranges. So which is it?

Okay when are we going to get BACK ON TOPIC! This is about Selene and the awfully named arc Necrosha not about sex and rapping A.K.A. two of the most pathetic things in the world excluding ignorant tyrants. Anyways I hope Necrosha is a very emotional roller coaster when the arc starts

I'm confused...sex is pathetic?

Well, it can by, I guess. It depends on who's having it.

I do not believe you're descrimination against rappers and sex havers is appropriate. Both of those are talents that can get a person very far in life.

And rap battles have a lot to do with Necrosha. There are many rappers that are not with us any longer, and maybe they will return with Selene's help. This rap battle could honor them.

SORORITY.

Fuck off with your prize-giving mysogyny and offer both male and female prizes.
And in general, fuck off with your mysogyny.
And the only sexual exploits I ever want to hear discussed on CBR are homosexual ones. You got that?
Jeez, there's a reason everyone hates the heteros.

I wish to register myself as a competitor for this rap battle.

You already won, Seres! Go forth and claim RoguishGurl.

All joking aside, that's quite the generalization. Many rappers are respectable members of society.

Rap is fun, sex is bad.

Sex will be the prize.

If the sexer is the one who is getting the prize who will be the sexie?

Perfection/Emma 2's sex is pathetic? I think Goshin can help with that, he's quite experienced. Majinaow can lend you protection as well, P/E2.

Make a thread.

X-Men - Freestyle Challenge

Winner gets a night with Roguish Girl.
I meant to say, "gets busy with Roguish Girl for a night."
I'm sure you would make a much better prize than I would.

I think RoguishGurl should be consulted about this before we offer her as a prize.
I agree!

It is common knowledge that I speak on her behalf.
You have lost that privilege Mr. Box.

I'm sure this has probably been said elsewhere already...but Necrosha could be the remedy to decimation. There could be a countless number of mutants brought back that might end up getting a second shot at life. I say keep at least half of all the mutants that get revived during Necrosha. Great way to bring back old villains and stuff.

K/Y have been planting the seeds for this story for a couple of years now. So if anything Blackest Night is the sloppy necro-seconds.

Except you could argue that Johns has been planning for this since Green Lantern Rebirth, when Black Hand got his death powers or whatever.

Not that one story is in any way ripping off the other. Neither Johns nor K&Y invented the concept of people coming back from the dead.

If Marvel was really intent on ripping off Blackest Night, they wouldn't relegate to only the second tier X-books.
