my playlists = 60s pop, 90s rap. i like the former because it makes good use of the stereo field. these days not much different is going on between the speakers as many clubs have big single speakers in different places, so if you played much 60s pop, one half of the club would be treated to vocals and drums, the other rhythmic guitar.

Early punk rock (Ramones, Clash)
Classic Country (Johnny Clash)
Rootsy rock and roll (CCR, Little Feat)
Modern Americana (Felice Brothers, Neko Case)
70s pop (Abba, Elton John)
Singer/ Songwriters (Dylan, Neil Young)
60s Garage Rock (different nuggets bands)
Power Pop (Matthew Sweet, Badfinger)

Indie (Regina Spektor, Belle and Sebastian)
Some classical, hard rock, blues/booze rock, art rock, brit-pop, symphonic pop, new wave, yadayadayada.
And a bunch of other stuff that I'm forgetting. In a way, it's easier to list music that I don't like such as rap/ hip hop, electronica, most hard rock and metal, opera...

Classic Rock, Alternative Rock, 70s to early-90s Metal (not much after Metallica's black album or Use Your Illusion), Punk, New Wave, Ska, Reggae, Soul/R&B, Funk, Rap, Jazz, Blues, and a smidgen of Zydeco
And Johnny Cash.
In the past year or so, I've started listening to Slavic artists of various genres--mostly folk metal bands, but others, as well.

I generally like rock. But I also enjoy listening to instrumentals. Despite of everything, I still like listening to 90s boy bands and girl bands such as Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, 98 Degrees.
I listen to most everything I'm exposed to, from teeny bop to metal to jazz to classical.
And i'm not afficianado, or purist or anything, I just listen to what I like.
Only I have to say, not having heard anything new or interesting in most rap or metal, I haven't listened to anything lately that's caught my attention.

I'm a big fan of elaborate rock bands like Queen.
I also like Motorhead, System Of A Down, Blur, Nightwish, My Chemical Romance, Rammstein, Annie Lennox, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson and the Pet Shop Boys.
I also like powerful classical music like Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries" which is 19th century stadium rock.

ZAPPA !
besides Zappa, there's not all that much music I don't/won't/can't listen to
from time to time.
but if I were to pick a favorite genre
(& it's probably the shortest lived genre in musical history)
I'd go with ('70s) Jazz Fusion-
done right it seemed like music at it's most primitive mixed w/music of the future-

I usually settle for pop music... whatever the radio throws into my eardrum, I'm likely to at least 'get used to'... That being said, my favourites are 80s pop music and 90s 'r&b' (using quotation marks so as to not insult those who'll say it's not REAL rhythm and blues [like my mother, and there's a point, really]).
Among my favourite artists and bands are George Michael, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Dru Hill, Usher. There's a whole bunch of others artists and bands I like, but I guess these are the ones I listened to most.
