Before I answer, what is your background in physics and theoretical mathematics?

lol
seriously though, one is a concussive force blast, the other is like a laser. they're two separate kinds of energy. if you want to know who would win if they both shot at each other: the beams would go through each other and cyclops would end up dead like in the picture above since he is not invulnerable.

What?!? Go through each other? I, think not. Look again. Anyway, I seriously doubt that cover truly exists.

Good question. But, doomed to wide spread specuation. IMO... The two can not be compared.
1. Cyclops's optic abilities do not (contrary to popular belief) unlike Darkseid's generate heat or radiation.
2. Superman's optic abilities generates heat and radiation (amongst the other things his eyes can do)
Now, it can be argued that Cyclops might (Might: Used to indicate a possibility or probability that is weaker than may) be able to absorb superman's heat vision being that it is solar based energy -- If not... Scott = melted marshmallow.
But, I would also think that if Superman can stand up to being punched full on by the Hulk -- Scott's optic blast won't do squat unless we are using the explanation of Scott's power from the first printing of the OHOTMU. Where his power are stated to be from a non-Einsteinian dimension and from that can be composed of anything including Green K type radiation.

Although it was a crossover, didn't Supes' heat vision KO the Hulk?

In their first fight? No! Hulk whipped that ass! During the second though -- IIRC Hulk was being controlled by a micro device flying around his head making him violent/angry. Superman saw the device and destroyed it. Hulk calmed down and was handled.

No, I meant that DC vs. Marvel story.

Ah, I see... Hulk Vs Superman (http://www.supermantv.net/comics/hulksuperman/hulk3.htm)
I'll stick with the 1981 fight.

Superman can shave with his heat vision, so I'd have to give him the nod in terms of control, at least.

I didn't think this was a Cyclops vs. Superman thread, so much as a "whose power is more full" thread.
So, suppose there were two Supermans (Supermen): one with Superman's heat vision and one with Cyke's concussive blast. They're both shooting the same targets, treating the scientific method very seriously. Which is more "powerful"?

Who's had more time to store up energy from the yellow sun?
Close thread, that's the actual answer.

Considering Scott uses his optic blasts constantly, whereas Superman regularly forgets he has heat vision and resorts to just slugging it out, I'm going to say one of them has a lot more juice left in the tank.

Supes doesn't use his heat Vision very often because it's SO dangerous, he can melt solid steel with it like it's nothing.
Cyclops Optic Blast are often shown to be much weaker than they should be, the should be the equivalent to a punch from the Hulk or one of the other top powerhouses. It was always stated that Cyke could punch holes in mountains or that he could crush a tank into the size of a soda can but the stuff you see him do with his powers usually never come close to that. Writers also tend to neglect his ability to make bank shots with his blast and just how precise he can be when he wants to, he can't control them without the visor, otherwise he's a fucking surgeon with his blasts.

Astonishing X-Men #23, where Cyke breaks Wolverine out of handcuffs through the walls of the Breakworld prison from the interrogation room, and blasts clear up into the atmosphere as a flare for the rest of the team to find them is one of those moments, to say the least.

I didn't say they NEVER show the full extent of his optic blasts, but more often than not they don't. Just like more often than not they don't show him making bank shots with them or how precise he can be in using them.

I, concur:cool: Like I said in post #6... "I would also think that if Superman can stand up to being punched full on by the Hulk -- Scott's optic blast won't do squat -- unless we are using his stats from the 1986 "OHOTMU" Now, as far as being powered... Scott did blow the hand off of a "Celestial" Albeit he absorbed that level of power from his then wife Jean Grey (http://www.ilovewavs.com/Holidays/Party/Super%20Freak.wav) who just happens to be able to eat Suns... (Jean's optic blasts are another story:wink:) He did it nonetheless.

Shoot, I know in "the breakfast issue" he banks a shot off the mirror and hits Iceman with it. Of course, a few Cyclops fans I've talked to decry what an error it is because his blasts are concussive, and not lasers, while others cite it as a feat of his "bank shot" ability.

All the more reason to accept the 1986 "OHOTMU" definition of his powers biggrin: "Non-Einsteinian (http://www.kcn.ru/tat_en/science/ans/journals/ansj_cnt/03_3_3.html)"
